Police Academy vs Starfleet Academy YouTube

Posted by False-Category-8579

As one can see in the video, writers just push in a story in a franchise that could be better placed somewhere else. In this example, the relation with \*Star Trek\* is far-fetched at best, while \*Starfleet Academy\* might have worked better as a \*Police Academy\*-installment. Likewise, \*Star Wars, The Acolyte\* might have worked better when it was set in the European Middle Ages instead of in a Galaxy, far, far away.

I will take [Police Academy](https://boxd.it/1YWg) over any modern Star Trek.

And the Star Trek series has been dog shit, since it was updated for "modern audiences."

Almost like the show runners for the new series don’t know what Star Trek is about and what made it so popular AND what modern audiences want.

Wow that's sad. That's what Star Trek has become. And at least Police Academy is a comedy. It knows it's a comedy. It isn't trying to be anything else other than a comedy. Star Trek thinks it's saying something. Thinks it's serious, I'm assuming at least. But it's so bad that it has the tone of a comedy. And bad comedy at that. Idk if that's the saddest part of it. Or the most depressing.

It is surprising how subtle that difference can be. In both, the academy is a serious organization that has a collection of wacky characters who are trying to make it through the program. There are serious moments, and there are moments played for laughs. All it would have taken is for them to take themselves a little less seriously, and it might actually been able to become a comedic star trek for kids as they intended.

It’s like y’all heard “infinite diversity in infinite combinations” and added “but only as long as I’m comfortable with it.”

I'd say "but only as it is good." Not every combination of notes creates good music, you know.

That’s a wild way to admit that you don’t know the definition of infinite, but hey, you do you buddy. Also art is entirely subjective, someone out there thinks the stuff you like is inhuman garbage.

>That’s a wild way to admit that you don’t know the definition of infinite, but hey, you do you buddy. I could strawman your words, but let me just ask you to elaborate. Could you please give me your definition of “infinite,” and quote me where I show that I, as you say, “*don’t know the definition*”? >Also art is entirely subjective, someone out there thinks the stuff you like is inhuman garbage. That is true. I have seen people claiming that *How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days* was superior to *The Godfather*, for example. That said, this statement seems to undermine your “but only as long as I’m comfortable with it”-argument. I am not entirely sure what you meant with it, but some people believe they should be comfortable with art. Since that is a subjective opinion, and you seem to have no problems with subjective opinions, I do not understand the intention of your first comment. Could you please elaborate on that one too?

totally feel you on this, some franchises stretch their stories way too thin. moving those plots around could legit lead to some fresh takes instead of forced connections.
