I'd be willing to bet that a good portion of the Liberal hatred was because of Trudeau. I had many co-workers willing to vote Conservative because they simply hated Trudeau personally and couldn't come up with much a policy argument deeper than the Conservative sound bites. Once Trudeau was out they flip-flopped back and have been pro-Carney ever since. It was pretty wild to witness TBH.

Well, that was pretty much the entire conservative platform for the election. For years they had been saying nothing meaningful except how much they hated Trudeau. It was honestly hilarious to watch them build up to that hate crescendo for the election, just to have the liberals pull the rug out from pollievre by replacing Trudeau with a boring international banker that conservatives would have loved, had he worn blue instead of red
The cons moved right to scoop up some insignificant extremist crazies and they got absolutely played when the liberals also moved slightly right, but instead of a handful of crazies, scooped up a thick chunk of centrists who were sick of the extremist rhetoric. Hilarious how quickly it all fell apart for PP

They just hated liberal trudeau so much that they voted liberal when he was gone”. Legit what?

Just relaying what I seen in my corner of the world and the political discussions I had with people I know. It moved very quickly from "I'll never vote Liberal because I hate Trudeau" to "Carney is a better choice than Poillievre" almost overnight. Trumps influence and talk of annexation was most likely a factor as well. 2025 was a pretty wild ride.

I honestly STILL see maple MAGA idiots trying to say that Pedo Prez isn't anything like Poillievre at all and that Carney winning is actually what the Orange Menace wanted. Just the most insane levels of copium to try and pretend like PP wasn't just a MAGA Republican draped in the Canadian flag.
Both PP and Trump ran on populist agendas, trying to rally a struggling and frustrated working class against a group of "elites" running the government. Both ran campaigns focusing on liberal hating, othering immigrants and those labeled as outsiders, draconian vengeance based justice systems, mass deregulation and a specific focus on targeting the LGBTQ community. Both rely on short, empty 3 syllable slogans promising everything and ultimately delivering nothing (Lock Her Up, Build the Wall, Axe the Tax, Bring it Home). Both ran campaigns largely based on "anti woke" rhetoric, full of ridiculous exaggerations and complete lies of liberalism run amok that was destroying the moral fabric of society. Both cozied up to far right extremists (Trump with Fuentes, Proud Boys and Oathkeepers, PP with the Convoy participants and Canadian extremists like Diagolon or Thomas Everett).
It got so bad the Liberals ran ads of a side by side of Trump saying something on the left then PP saying the same thing on the right. Like a mirror image of what is going on in the US. Yet the CPC still doubles down on them being nothing alike.
That's why they'll continue losing.
