He's going to somehow cost the GOP the Senate.

"Somehow". They're well on their way through sheer unpopularity. Not that I wouldn't mind Republicans shooting themselves in the foot as often as they'd like.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
9
Raus-Pazazu 19 hr ago +15
While I would hope that the Senate flips, it just isn't very likely at all. Even with the expected jump in blue voters, Dems are fighting a massive, massive uphill battle this cycle with the seats that are up for grabs. Even a 15 point swing in their favor only gets them to 48 seats. 49 would be the long, long, long shot. 50 would take a miracle of flipping a +30 Republican seat, and 51 would take flipping a +30 and a +40 Republican seat. At this point, unless several GOP Senators get caught with a trunk full of dead white babies, there's really nothing (even the current shitshows happening) that are going to give the Dems that kind of voter advantage. It could happen, it's just extremely unlikely.
15
travio 19 hr ago +14
I'd say the dems need 52 to actually take the senate. Republicans will offer Fetterman anything to switch parties should the dems only get 51. He will get primaried in his next election, so he has little to lose in switching and he has sounded more republican than dem already.
14
Raus-Pazazu 18 hr ago +6
If 51 is a "This is a million to 1 shot" how likely then is 52?
6
travio 18 hr ago +4
I wouldn't call 51 a million to one shot. People had been souring on Trump for a while. With the war, economy, and gas prices added to the mix, that is just getting worse for republicans. Still an uphill battle, and even steeper to get to 52, but both are possible.
4
DrDankDankDank 18 hr ago +7
Even if a republicans gets caught with a trunk of dead white babies, the idea that a democrat *could* get caught with a trunk of dead white babies, will be enough to push them to vote republicans again.
7
Disastrous_Sky_73 19 hr ago +3
You forget. There is 6 months…. Trump can help th dems with that hurdle
3
travio 19 hr ago +7
He did say gas prices might be even higher by the midterms. That would certainly help the dems' chances.
7
Raus-Pazazu 19 hr ago +3
I am not forgetting, I'm just being a rational person. Yes, there are extremely unlikely and unprecedented scenarios that could happen that might cause a +40 R seat to flip blue, but as of right now and in the foreseeable future, that +40 will just end up a red seat sitting at +20. Maybe if we had seen Harris beat Fuller in Georgia's district 14 by 5 or 10 points, then we could be talking a big enough blue wave to at least get to 51 seats in the Senate, but that election itself still showed that while the base it getting chipped away at, it's not getting toppled over just yet.

In Canada's election in April of 2025, the Conservative Party of Canada had a huge lead in public opinion polls until Trump started with his 51st State garbage and widespread tariffs. The Liberal Party (centrist but with an experienced economist as their new leader) won a minority government, and have been getting a steady trickle of Conservative M.P.s switching sides this year. Whatever Trump sticks his greedy fingers into, it backfires.
135
True-Industry-4057 19 hr ago +95
You left out the best part - the Conservative leader lost his own seat.
95
Renegade_August 19 hr ago +44
You also missed the second best part. They went from an assured landslide victory to the biggest blunder the conservatives have faced in decades. You love to see it.
44
canadian_xpress 18 hr ago +3
That was the most Milhouse thing to happen to Milhouse. People forgot the same thing happened to Jagmeet Singh (and also to Maxime Bernier) because it was just such a fumble. If Mad Max would've just ferme la bouche for another year or so and let Doughboy Sheer implode his leadership he would have been King Con and we wouldn't have a purple party who polls at rounding error levels.

This isn’t even a new phenomenon. Trumps endorsement has been problematic for his allies since 2018. F***, remember Georgia in 2020?  It’s almost certainly going to be a repeat this election. Any district that isn’t voting 20+ Trump in 2024 is at risk for him.

daneflys 18 hr ago +16
In Canada, there are two main political parties (Liberal and Conservative) that actually have a shot electing a member to be prime minister. Prior to Mark Carney winning the leadership battle of the Liberal Party, they had no chance at winning the last election mostly due to Justin Trudeau being that party's previous leader and him being Canada's prime minister, as many were unhappy with him and the party for how they were running the country. Leading up to the Canadian election, Trump and his supporters kept publicly backing the leader of the Conservative while also joking about Canada being the 51st state. Prior to all this Trump nonsense, NOTHING could have convinced me that Canada would elect the Liberal Party to power again (this literally should have been the easiest win for the Conservative Party), but not only did the Liberals win, the leader of the Conservative Party lost his individual election for his seat. Trump's endorsement flipped the Canadian election so hard that the leader of the Conservative Party here had to get one of his cronies to vacate the seat they had won so that the leader of the party could win a seat (in a safe riding where any Conservative was a lock to win). And since then, several Conservative Party members have "crossed the carpet" and switched to become Liberal Party members (this definitely has happened several times in the past, but I've never seen it happen this much before). So Trump has actually unified Canada more than I can remember, and the Mark Carney lead Liberal Party has been doing a great job of shifting our trade and financial ties to be less dependent on America.
16
MissingString31 18 hr ago +9
Even this is underselling it. Polling was so bad for the Liberals that some scenarios were predicting the complete decimation of the party - straight up losing official party status. Now the Liberals are gaining popularity even in Alberta.
9
daneflys 18 hr ago +3
Exactly! It's difficult to properly explain to non-Canadians just how much Trump influenced the Canadian election in opposition to his goals. And how much better the Conservative Party here would have done in that election if Trump and his administration had not bothered trying to influence our election, or if the Conservative Party would have done anything to show some level of opposition to how Trump and America were speaking about Canada... it genuinely felt like electing the Conservatives/Poilievre would be a guarantee that Canada would cave to every demand Trump made.
3
ANGRY_ASPARAGUS 18 hr ago +3
As an Albertan, I have been super impressed with Carney, and very glad I voted for him. Having a smart, competent and methodical leader, that is making deals with the rest of the world and being a leader on the international stage, is exactly the PM we need right now. Hell, he's the voice of reason for a lot of the world right now. Where we would be if we had elected Angry Milhouse as our PM right now, cowing to the corrupt US right, makes the hair on my arms stand up.

It happened last election....
75
quiplaam 18 hr ago +51
Hungary's elections are much more fair than Venezuela. In Hungary there is voter suppression, gerrymandering, government controlled media, but there is not (recent) history of faking votes or results. Plus as an EU member, there are super national observers that should protect the integrity
51
Electronic-Link-5792 16 hr ago +3

3
Finetales 18 hr ago +36
It happened in the US in November 2024 as well.
36
rettribution 18 hr ago +20
Sadly there was no voter fraud. We are just that damned stupid.
20
Finetales 18 hr ago +14
Elon and Trump literally admitted to it publicly multiple times, unprompted, and there is plenty of evidence to support it (such as crucial swing counties inexplicably getting ZERO votes for Harris). No argument that we are indeed just that damned stupid, BUT the election was also not won fairly.
14
Ultraplo 17 hr ago +13
Far be it from me to tell you what conspiracy theories to believe in, but multiple researchers – both within and outside of the country – have looked into those voter fraud allegations. While some slightly odd voter behaviour has been found, there’s nothing to suggest the election as a whole was unfair. That leaves two options: (1) Democrats spreading these allegations, like the Republicans in 2020, are sore losers who need someone else to blame for their own mistakes. (2) The US experienced extremely advanced voter fraud, which would’ve required the government to be very involved. In other words, the Democrats and Republicans are all part of a secret cabal who’s managed to conceal some of the most intricate voter fraud in history, all aimed at putting Trump in the White House. There’s no world wherein MAGA on their own managed to tip the scales to the point where it’d affect the election in 2024. Not only would they’ve had to trick the national watchdogs and government, they would’ve also had to trick all the foreign observers and national security agencies – including hundreds of experts from OSCE and ODIHR, whose entire careers revolve around analysing electoral fairness. Could small-scale fraud in individual districts happen? Possibly. Could it have affected the outcome of the general election? Nope.
13
Final_Squirrel_7462 18 hr ago +5
Come on. This sounds as stupid as the 2020 Jan 6 idiots. The US voting system is far from perfect but the election was was far and certified by international watchers. Harris was dealt a shit hand and Biden withdrew way too late and she made the most of it but was never able to close to the polling gap.
5
ScaryBarry2 18 hr ago -1
I would urge you to look at the data that strongly suggests otherwise.

Moving-thefuck-on 18 hr ago +6
Things can be two things.
6
Remarkable_Face_7123 17 hr ago +5
It can't because of the EU. There's lots of propaganda, but the elections themselves are free and fair because they have EU minders and have to keep to EU electoral standards.

We all wanna see that. Unfortunately he will be in Moscow long before they will be able to do anything.
79
Jaew96 19 hr ago +22
Maybe, but I get the feeling Putin won’t be so welcoming to former asset that has lost all usefulness to him.
22
minyhumancalc 18 hr ago +31
Nah they'll keep him; he's not a movie crime boss who just kills people no longer useful. Allowing him to live a life after his plans fail allows future dictators the comfort to try to take power. Otherwise, its harder to convince other dictators to choose Russia if they'll be killed if they lose power
31
NeedsMoreSpaceships 18 hr ago +11
That's not how it works. The promise of a safe haven is one of the carrots Putin uses to leverage other authoritarian leaders. He follows through on the promises because he wants to use it in the future too and it costs him almost nothing. It's actually a useful service to the world in some ways as giving dictators a way out reduces the likelihood of them fighting to the death.
11
Timewinders 18 hr ago +2
I mean, dictators can still pull an Assad and tell their subordinates to keep fighting to the death while they secretly flee to Russia without telling even their closest aides.
2

The irony is that's exactly why it is so hard to get rid of these people in the first place. Once you dig that hole deep enough, there is no way back. I'm sure. Trump is testing the way to manipulate elections. But Orban lost by way more than a hanging chad. Hungarians can see that riding the coattails of Trump is a losing strategy.

[New Preliminary Results](https://www.reuters.com/world/hungary-election-2026-live-viktor-orbans-fidesz-faces-challenge-opposition-peter-2026-04-12/): With 29.2% of votes counted, Tisza is projected to win 132 seats a minute ago 11:53 PDT. That is the latest projection from the National Election Office. It would put them just below the 133 seats needed to gain a two-thirds supermajority in the 199-member parliament. [Preliminary Results Update 1](https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/12/world/live-news/hungary-election-orban-magyar?post-id=cmnw32un8000g3b6qucofp975): At 8:30pm, 15% of votes are tallied and "most Hungarian media are now reporting the results so far are pointing to a big win for the opposition Tisza party." "Vote counting is now under way in polling stations across Hungary. **As of 8:30 p.m. local time, some 90 minutes after polls closed, election officials had managed to process some 15%** of the votes." [Preliminary Results Update 2](https://www.reuters.com/world/hungary-election-2026-live-viktor-orbans-fidesz-faces-challenge-opposition-peter-2026-04-12/) "With almost 15% votes counted, Tisza is projected to win 125 seats". and "Voter turnout hits 74.23% at 5 p.m., a record high" (Note: There are 199 seats.)

please god please god, let Orban lose.

Orban losing isn't enough. Ideally Tisza gets 133 seats in order to immediately undo all the bullshit Orban has done for decades

> Ideally Tisza gets 133 seats in order to immediately undo all the bullshit Orban has done for decades This says 138 at the moment https://vtr.valasztas.hu/ogy2026

Even if orban loses, he will declare the results invalid and have a special military operation to remove the terrorist opposition?
2
peejay412 17 hr ago +4
He just congratulated Magyar. So let's hope things go over peacefully and he just fucks off to Russia

Learn this lesson, US. Vote. I don't care if the opposition to the fascists didn't kiss your ass and couldn't give you the pony you wanted. Grow up, and VOTE.

Why does it feel like US leadership is ending up on the wrong side of history?

What time are the results expected?
2
Desnowshaite 19 hr ago +6
There are preliminary results based on exit poll showing Orbán lost big time. Usually the results are counted over night and by the morning there is a pretty much certain result with most votes counted.

The Election in Hungary - TOTAL DISASTER, everybody is saying it! Rigged, completely rigged, maybe the most rigged we’ve ever seen, and I know a lot about rigged elections, unfortunately. Ballots all over the place, very suspicious things happening, very unfair to the people of Hungary. And this Viktor Orban guy - people keep mentioning him, I don’t know, I’ve never heard of him before, nobody has told me about him, but they say he lost? Interesting! Maybe he should have looked into what was going on, because something VERY STRANGE happened over there, believe me. The Fake News won’t cover it, of course, they never do, but the Hungarian people deserve answers. BIG answers. Something is going on, and it’s not good!!!

I can’t claim to know much of anything about Hungary or the Hungarian people, but if I had to guess, I would assume there was a record turnout against Orban because Trump started showing up and holding rallies/ events supporting him. Trump endorsing someone is a guarantee that their campaign will end in failure.

I have seen four "exit polls" although apparently they're not exit polls (don't really understand this) but it's been 2 for Magyar and 2 for Orban.  I wont be shocked if Orban wins, since the last two elections he was behind in the polls then magically won. Since then he's made it even harder to lose with electoral reforms.  I truly, truly hope he's thrown out of power but I won't hold my breath.

The high turn-out is misleading guys, remain vigilant! The high turnout can only be partially be explained by the efforts of the Opposition. It highly suggests that the hungarians in Nations Like Servia and Slovakia also turned out in Large Numbers and they vote 95% Orban usually….

Thanks Mr. Vance!

forbiddenpaprika 19 hr ago +2
Right?! Hungarian voters thought that call Vance got from Trump during the speech meant they were just pawns of the US Mafia - and they went to go vote against Orban. He lost bc everyone hates Trump.

I don't know why anyone would want someone that is friends with Putin.

phigo50 19 hr ago +1
Awesome if he can get an outright 2/3 majority (as one of the exit polls suggests) and not need to form a coalition.

Don't worry Orban, it's not the number of votes that counts, is the counters of the votes that count. /s
