Funny how the Trump cult instantly assume he's making a direct attack on Trump. That is more damning than what the Pope says.

I think the pope is simply trolling Trump at this point, he keeps saying something that Trump thinks as a direct attack, only to follow up and say he didn't mean it was Trump.

Drop an insult to nobody in particular, and its owner will come pick it up.

Mfw the Pope wins the Nobel peace prize in 2026. Trump would get an aneurism.

I'm honestly half-expecting the Iranian regime declaring they will only talk peace with the greatest american leader of the free world of this century: Pope Leo XIV. Just to troll Trump.

I think a big part of the problem is that everyone wants a strong leader to do the brutal work they would never do themselves. Much of that brutality is unethical, immoral, and that's why they want someone else to do it for them. Just look at all the brutality done in the name of the Catholic church throughout the ages. They're no different. They never repented. They never paid any reparations. They certainly enjoy all the fruits of such brutality all over the world all across history. They keep billions locked away, but not one dime to their victims. It's the same with any and all tyrants, all through history. Name one who truly repented and paid reparations for their brutality. This Pope talks about brutal regimes explitations while he sits on a throne made of the crushed skulls of hundreds of millions of victims.

Thing is the brutalities committed by the Catholic Church are generally perceived as just that: brutalities. In no way should shit done by the Catholic Church through the ages be used to justify what any modern leader is doing here and now.

The problem being, most brutalities were done on their behalf, by third parties. Just like voting in a tyrant to do your dirty work for you. Yet, the hypocrisy is accepted because they didn't directly go out and slaughter millions, steal their property, and enslave the rest. It was all done in the name of Jesus, but not directly by Jesus. So they're all OK with it.

Emmm... Nice try. But anyone who remembers history know that Catholic church is cool with authoritarian rulers. That's why they crowned so much of them. And I didn't see any new guys nailed to wood to indicate a policy changes about that ...

The history of the Catholic Church does not mean we should not celebrate them getting better. If the Pope is a voice of reason in the modern world, we should hope he helps a few catholics become better people.

Exactly. Catholic church was always about power. Now they are trying to cleanup their act because they are trying to appeal to people. But I assume that Rodrigo Borgia still looking down it them like Mufasa.

I once got a piece of advice I really took to heart: don’t punish the behavior you want to see. I, for one, would personally like it if they took a stand against authoritarianism.

Yeah, if a group has ever been bad they should never try to be good and advocate for good things or they are hypocrites! This is a surefire path to utopia!

Where has Pope Leo ever stated he supports the Islamic Republic of Iran? Edit: Really, a reply and block for asking a basic question?

Right, "If you're not with us, you're against us", the argument of a rational mind.
