And tho shalt not put ketchup on thine hit dog. And it was good. I do wonder about the future relevance of thr Catholic church but they do seem to have had a couple of progressive for them picks lately. The number infuriated by Francis's statements especially was pretty funny.

I disagree. He has the Position and the voice to call out Trump and the entirety of fundamental MAGA christians and point out that what they do and what they believe in has nothing to do with christianity and that they are hypocritical assholes and he says next to nothing.

Meanwhile, the conquest of Canaan and whatever the f*** King David was doing.

CaspinLange Mar 29, 2026 +1
That’s cool enough, but the entire Bible is nothing but God saying it’s OK to kill each other. There are specific instructions about slaughtering entire populations and keeping the women as spoils from the war.

Old testament, which has been superceded by the new testament.
1
Overly_Underwhelmed Mar 29, 2026 +1
then you can stop fetishizing hanging the ten commandments (in the OT) everywhere?
1
CaspinLange Mar 29, 2026 +1
Some Christians like to say that God’s word doesn’t count and that only the second half counts. Because they like their fantasy that this is a real reality. They can’t fathom that their entire concept of the universe is false and made up like a fairytale.

Stop embarrassing yourself.
1
CaspinLange Mar 29, 2026 +1
Some people just like to exist in fantasy land. They don’t like to acknowledge that the mythical made up completely false God of the Christian religion is a genocidal maniac. But it does explain why several of the adherents are child molesters. Hell I could be talking to one right now.
1
ty_xy Mar 29, 2026 +1
There are also many atheist child molesters and serial killers. Stalin was an atheist. Mao Zedong was an atheist. Pol pot was an atheist. I find that people often make baseless accusations based on projections and deep rooted shame, so perhaps you should examine yourself first. You've left little room for a good discussion, so I won't engage.
1
CaspinLange Mar 29, 2026 +1
Yeah you’re right, the fact that there are so many countless Christian child molesters doesn’t d******* the fact that there are some atheist ones too

Strange that God went through such a personality change between the two texts.

is war ever justified ?

schu62 Mar 29, 2026 +29
Stopping the Axis powers definitely was. Just war theory is a thing

ZuAusHierDa Mar 29, 2026 +1
It’s always justified to defend oneself or the help others to defend themselves.
1
Zorna1 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Defending your country from invasion and other attacks is the only type i’d really justify

Personal-Try328 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Yes, obviously.

Class war.

pomonalost Mar 29, 2026 +1
Justified, probably not. Sometimes we have to do the things we don't want to do.

Cynical_Classicist Mar 29, 2026 +5
It's odd of a flip-around usual expectations to have the Pope calling against a war which the US government claims is a holy war. And the first US Pope! Now if he was calling for a Butlerian Jihad...

Cool bro, what did God said about the crusades?

That was a *crusade* and not a *war*! /s

He must not know about the Old Testament

DeeDee_Z Mar 29, 2026 +1
Remember that M\*A\*S\*H episode with the soldier who thought he was J.C.? Even though it was a sitcom, I thought his answer was pretty good: *"God answers all prayers ... sometimes the answer is No."*

Question, what is an Evangelical perspective of the Pope?
1
worksnake Mar 29, 2026 +1
Love the message, but the pope could use some reading glasses. The god of the Bible is the ultimate war monster. The revisionism and bad faith to pretend otherwise is sort of unhinged.
1
Dyslexic_Devil Mar 29, 2026 +1
The Bible justifies war, murder and infanticide... The Bible contains the "word of God".
1
RLewis8888 Mar 29, 2026 -6
Has he ever read the Old Testament?

TheModWhoShaggedMe Mar 29, 2026 +5
How are you not embarrassed? The Christians claiming God supports the Iran occupation are *born again* Christians, followers of Christ (supposedly), not followers of the Old Testament. Why would the Pope speak to them from the wrong text?
5
Propagation931 Mar 29, 2026 +5
> born again Christians, followers of Christ (supposedly), not followers of the Old Testament. Born Again Christians still believe in the old testament, hence why they still have it in their Bibles. Heck even the US ones are big fans of the Ten Commandments (didnt they put in in Classrooms or something ) which is explicitly old testament.

restore_democracy Mar 29, 2026 +8
Am I missing the /s? Christians don’t use the Old Testament now? What’s the first 2/3 of the Bible for, weight training?
8
ZuAusHierDa Mar 29, 2026 +1
For catholics it’s more like context for the real part.
1
RLewis8888 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Jesus affirmed the Old Testament as the authoritative, unbreakable Word of God, stating he came not to abolish it but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17-18)
1
TheModWhoShaggedMe Mar 29, 2026 +1
and that includes bombing Iran *how*? Christians are the world's a-holes. They call on whichever verse of the bible supports whatever atrocity they're committing at any particular time, and the bible is chock full of atrocities. What good people!
1
RLewis8888 Mar 29, 2026 +1
The OT has plenty of examples where God promoted killing/enslaving innocent women and children for a land-grab.
1
TheModWhoShaggedMe Mar 29, 2026 +1
True, and as an agnostic I don't have to pay attention to any of it, nor should it be part of guiding governments and affecting my daily life *in 2026*. Religious zealots are murderous bomb-and-rock throwing scum, including the Christians who kill.
1
RLewis8888 Mar 29, 2026 +1
I don't know what your point is. Originally you said born-again Christians do not follow the OT. The New Testament is an addendum, not a replacement.
1
TheGreatGenghisJon Mar 29, 2026 +1
I don't know why they're attacking you for pointing out that the Bible has so much "God justifies this" about war that Moses had to keep his arms lifted in order for God to help the Israelites win a battle in Exodus. The Abrahamic God totally approves of wars in his name. For, in his words "I am a jealous God". Most Christians don't seem to actually know the details of their religious text.

Y the relgion that brought us the crusades and the Spanish inquisition.

It’s so confusing when God keeps changing his mind.
1
ZuAusHierDa Mar 29, 2026 +1
It happens indeed a few times in the bible. Moses sometimes argues with god and changes his mind.
