Popular TV characters that shouldn’t be

Posted by Apprehensive_Shirt18

What are some TV show characters that the fandom of said show loves but you don’t understand why because either they’re terrible people or they make nothing but bad decisions with bad repercussions for everyone else? or really any reason of your choosing too.

I don't know why people love Sheldon Cooper as much as they do. He's awful imo

It's baffling because the character has actually done more harm to mainstream perception of autistic people and yet he still gets praised for being some kind of landmark in autism representation. Sheldon is so bad that he even makes The Good Doctor look like decent autism rep!

what are some examples of a good representation of people on the autism spectrum ?

Many main characters in sitcoms. But they kind of have to be, because the humor is best when they are the cause of their own problems.

Jim Halpert is a giant d***** when you step back and look at him honestly

Jim and Pam would honestly be so insufferable to actually work with. It's *incredibly* uncomfortable to witness two coworkers blatantly flirting with each other during work hours, especially when one is engaged! And the way they're framed like they're the "only sane ones" as if this and their pranking and bullying Dwight aren't contributing to the dysfunction in the workplace. I used to think Jim was funny when I was a kid but now all his passive-aggressiveness and facial expressions just come across so douchey.  And I always thought the way Jim handled the Karen situation (or rather, *didn't* handle it) was cowardly.

there is always at least one in every workplace like him that thinks he is above the mundane low to mid level job he has and thinks he´s better than it and everyone else. very sad type of person

Isn’t Stannis widely considered one of the least charismatic and least popular characters? Like even excluding the absolutely atrocious things he did on the show?

Not on the Game of Thrones sublistnook and even among a lot of book readers.

It's not the same show without Homelander, especially early on. They kinda gave too much plot armor to his enemies later, but even so, every time he's in screen he's commanding attention. Brilliant acting choices from Antony Starr, even his face looks really intense with a forward jaw all the time compared to his normal appearance. He really sells a contemptuous character that fakes normal emotion.

I do think he's a popular villain with a lot of fans, but yea. It's the alt-right that seem to think he's a "good" guy and like his character for the wrong reasons.

Can you blame the audience when the so-called "heroes" of the show are completely boring? It's like pro-wrestling when the audience finds the heels more entertaining than the face.

On ST:Voyager, The Doctor seems to be the fan favorite, but he's a petulant, whiny toddler that annoys the c*** out of me. Well acted for sure, but I don't understand why fans like the character as much as they do.

People always have a soft spot for the "non-human and struggles internally" character (Spock, Data, Odo, EMH). It helps a lot how well acted they are.

A computer program that is a petulant, whiny toddler is fun.

Sheldon - Big Bang Theory (the most annoying voice since Mrs. Kravitz from Bewitched haha!)

Turk from Scrubs He’s annoying as hell and he’s even worse when he’s paired with JD or Carla which is like, all the time

Did you just describe Special FBI Agent Elizabeth Keen? She is a polarizing character, with her decisions frustrating, or her character development inconsistent. However, my "love-to-hate" or "hate-to-love" push-pull often fuels my continued engagement with the show. It's engaging to watch her intense evolution from a naive FBI profiler into a complex, morally ambiguous figure deeply intertwined with Raymond Reddington's criminal world. Anyway, I am captivated by Liz's journey, seeing her go from a rookie profiler to a capable, often ruthless, "Blacklister" herself. Her arc is marked by instense self-discovery and a constant, often erratic, evolution that has kept me engaged in her narrative. Her complicated relationship with Mr. Reddington is central to my fascination with the show. In a "moth to a flame" dynamic, combining curiosity, mentorship, danger, and a deep, often paternalistic, connection, this relationship provides significant emotional weight. Initially, Lizzy serves as my surrogate, providing a sense of morality and relatability in the face of Red's dark, chaotic world. Her struggle to maintain her humanity while being manipulated and protected by Red kept me engaged for sometime There is also being repeatedly targeted, kidnapped, and put through extreme circumstances, yet she often shows immense strength and adaptability, evolving into a character who could hold her own, especially in later seasons. One last thing. Why did Red choose her? Yes, her past as Masha Rostova is revealed, I remained invested in her discovering the truth about her parents, identity, and connection to Reddington, but that question never gets resolved despited how often I re-watch the show.

I get that question a lot on this sub. English is my third language so I tend to use Grammarly. However, the sentiments are my own.
