I'm not going to lie, the video of him being crowned made me cry. It's horrendous that that man was put in the position of having to tackle a gunman, but he did it with no hesitation. He deserves that crown and more. Also, Hero by Chad Kroeger and Josey Scott playing in the background? Perfect.

Amazing to see the student body so pumped up about it. What a moment for that school.

I mean he’s officially everyone in that school’s hero. From the security footage in the school it looks like he identified the problem and tackled the shooter before the alarm was even raised. There wouldn’t have been a student sitting in the lobby if the school had gone into lockdown. The man officially took a bullet for those kids and made it so none of them got hurt. They’re all dancing at prom without sadness or fear because he took action. He’s officially one of the most important people they have ever met because he made it so all of them have a future. All in all, he’s a cool dude.

I kinda reminds me of the happy feel good ending to my cousin Vinny. Everyone is all glad that thy met each other meanwhile there’s a guy dead in the ditch. Lol

This guy is awesome. The whole reaction is awesome. Keeping with that spirit, and I mean it I don’t want to taint this in any way, but in light of this guys true bravery I’d like to take this opportunity to say f*** the Uvalde Police Department.

It looks like the prom queen he hugs at the end might also be a staff member? I wonder what her story is!

I hope so, otherwise he'd either have to break tradition or do something illegal

Wow ! What a way to be honoured by your charges. Also, when did teaching become such a violent profession ?

Evwrything about that country sounds like a dystopian nightmare these days...

It's on a spectrum, but it's certainly ramped up dramatically over the last decade.

There’s nothing positive about this story. A principal shouldn’t have to tackle a f****** shooter in the school hallway. This is like a “feel good story” of employees giving their vacation time to a sick colleague so they can get chemotherapy without being fired.

You're right that the bigger story is "Holy shit, this is a country where people regularly shoot up school children" I do think there's value in focusing on the good people who act quickly and selflessly when they have to though. What we need is more people who act like the principal, so that they outnumber the people who act like the kid with the gun.

Uhm... let's not conflate prom with gun violence against children
-63

Okay, guess we'll have to conflate prom with saving children from gun violence.

Smooth_Storm_9698 1 day ago -11
I mean... that was my original point. What he did was brave, but there has to be a better reward for it, like free therapy. Let the kids have their childhood... especially after it was almost taken from them.

dontrike 1 day ago +7
This is their childhood, which is why they decided on this gesture to thank him for it. What is your point here exactly? That they shouldn't thank their hero? That they shouldn't be reminded? That they should put their head in the sand?

You realize the kids *voted* him prom king, right? The students chose to do this.

Unfortunately none of the teens are qualified therapists.

Smooth_Storm_9698 1 day ago -10
Kids don't need to be therapists or target practice or martyrs, they deserve to be kids. Anniversary of Columbine btw

Tisarwat 1 day ago +1
No, of course not. But I don't think it's strange that they want to make a gesture to show appreciation to a man who has does something incredible to protect them. It's horrific that he had to. But he did, and clearly they appreciate him. I'm sorry that nothing has changed since Columbine.
