Whatever. Weir went on Critical Drinker. I know what problems he has with new Star Trek and it ain’t the plotting.

Could you explain? What did he say?

Critical Drinker is, at best, a venue to pretend other critiques aren’t, actually, the speaker disguising “why didn’t an ubermensch just solve things?” Which, if anything, sadly recasts his previous work in an (ironic turn of phrase) darker light.

I don't care what he goes on, the new Star Trek shows are dogshit.

trevrichards Mar 29, 2026 +18
I mean. Their shows *have* been shit.

The animated series are a notable exception to this, which makes it that much more frustrating that they were left out of the 60th anniversary visualizer.

He singled out Lower Decks (and SNW) as an exception.

Don't sleep on Prodigy. Once the first six episodes build the arc for the series going forward, it doesn't let off the gas.

I’m not even a Trekkie but I know that means he’s a real one.

Yeah. Both things can be true. Academy was a bin fire. *‘I think I swallowed my comms badge!’*

He definitely has an issue with the plotting as well.

Yes, celebrities google everything about every stop on their press tour. I love internet tendency to ascribe the worst things to people right off the bat

Funny to think of Mr Nonpolitical writing a Star Trek show

nic_haflinger Mar 29, 2026 +35
Sounds like he’s getting a bit full of himself. Someone didn’t like my ideas so they’re show is shit.

Most successful people in entertainment are full of themselves, doesn’t mean he’s right or wrong. I guess we can somewhat look at the result.

Royd Mar 29, 2026 +24
They're recent shows..... They're kinda shit though.....

You only need one period at the end of sentences. Even if you wanted to use an ellipsis, that’s only three dots.

I call it "pulling a Tarantino".

The Star Trek shows have been absolute shit. Starfleet Academy was a new low.

Yet try to make a slight criticism about his over the top wholesome competency listnookcore p*** books and people on here will faint.

Achemaker Mar 29, 2026 +13
You're gonna say I'm proving your point by calling you out on this, but that is the most ridiculous sentence I've ever read. God forbid someone write a wholesome story about competent people with a happy-ish ending.

watch_out_4_snakes Mar 29, 2026 +1
Hail Mary as a novel is boring as all hell. The movie made it sooooooo much better.

I will take competency over, "I swallowed my comms badge" any day of the week.

I love the Martian and Project Hail Mary, but I'm not convinced Andy Weir and Star Trek is a good combination. Star Trek fundamentally focuses on characters and Weir has had success by doing the opposite.

Andy, just so that you are aware, you are not the end-all and be-all of science fiction. Take a step back and appreciate those who came before.

I think he means their current product shows not the og trek

He's not talking about those who came before....read the article.

Author mad someone didn't like ideas, trashes them.

CDavis10717 Mar 29, 2026 +1
Perhaps the Star Trek people don’t want Mr Weir’s copy/paste of NASA documents explained by a few immature characters while joking of music/TV long past with no relationship experience to build upon and no closure to the story.
