Frank can still work in a PG-13 setting, given the fact they finally gave him his van they’re touching on other aspects of his comics history plus his dynamic with Spidey finally getting put to screen.

People forget the punisher debuted in a spider-man comic. He was "pg-13" before he was ever r rated
20
rabid_JMar 24, 2026
+19
People wax poetic about certain characters not working in a PG setting but my introduction to [Punisher](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0706837/) AND [Blade](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0706839/) was the animated Spider-man series in 1995/96.
These characters had decades of appearances in comics under the "[Comics Code Authority](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comics_Code_Authority)" which kept them PG.
19
Ekillaa22Mar 24, 2026
+5
There was a study showing there’s more gun violence and death in PG13 movies than R so I can see it
5
Lildicky91Mar 24, 2026
+5
Yeah, it’s not the violence that people think is bad. It’s showing the blood, goriness, disfigurement that would raise it to R. So they just remove those things about the violence and we all good now lol.
From a business point, it makes sense as it’s a much larger audience to make money from, but overall probably worse for the actual “art”.
5
Upbeat_Tension_8077Mar 24, 2026
+7
Even though I was skeptical of it, I think he's going to be pretty hilarious with Peter Parker & I wouldn't be surprised if they'll manage to lean heavier on some over the top aspects of his character in a good way (and maybe he'll still have some fights that can still be intense/vicious in their own right without the extra goriness of his fights in the other shows)
7
PayneTrain181999Mar 24, 2026

He’ll probably be trying to ruthlessly kill bad guys and Peter keeps getting in the way so they can humanely subdue them

There's that one comic where Cap is beating the shit out of him ( because Framk just murdered some villains ), Frank does nothing, Cap asks him to fight back and Frank goes " Not against you. "

An old gf got me a Punisher shirt one year. One day she asked why I don't wear it and I just frowned.
But on the bright side, that one episode of Born Again where the Punisher talks about how much he hates his "fans" on the force was nothing (and I mean nothing) short of cathartic to me. It's so f****** important that Frank took a stand on this in the MCU (just like he does in the comics). It needed to be said - the symbol doesnt feel like theirs now. They're just idiots who obviously don't keep up with the character.

5

Even that scene felt watered down. The scene in the comics that everyone was thinking about has Frank telling the cops that they're nothing like him, that they've taken an oath to protect and serve and if they want a role model they should look at Captain America because Frank himself is a f****** murderer.
The scene on the show just has him whining about how they can't be like him because they don't understand his pain, the implication being that maybe if they could understand it then it would be okay. Like, dude, your wife and kids were killed by criminals. That sucks but it's not *that* unique of a story.

to them; thats the point.
Nazi's co-opted a peace hindi peace symbol into the goddamn swastika
the American flag has been co-opted by far right racists for "their" America
racist nazi loving MAGA's are already trying to "claim" Rage Against the Machine and the messages from their music to fit their narratives.
Nazi's were already using the skull logo for their own intimidation tactics and Berenthal has been doing podcasts where he glazes the very same racist cops as heroes that valiantly run into a gunfight and save the day for the normies. I'm pretty sure he probably had someone to make excuses for why all those cops didn't do shit while kids were being killed during Sandy Hook or Uvalde or any other time the cops didn't do shit because legally, they are not required to save your life (imagine that!?!).
I was a big fan of Berenthal and I was all about his message of redemption and how he was a fuckup and turned his life around and put in the work to be where he is today; but sorry, the dude LOVES the cops and is now some mouthpiece for them and the military and lets just say; I'm pretty sure Berenthal would absolutely sign up to join ICE.

NativeMassholeMar 24, 2026

Is he actually going to want to be the Punisher in this series? The two Netflix seasons tried way too hard to make him an antihero with him getting pushed into fighting. This isn't First Blood, Frank is supposed to go straight for the kill.

Born Again has him unashamedly as the Punisher. I won't say more due to spoilers.
24
tetoffensMar 24, 2026
+4
He wasn't pushed into fighting? Fighting is all he wanted in those series. It's all that kept him going. The only thing was he made genuine attachments to people and some disliked that. Which doesn't even make sense because he was set on that course due to not being able to protect the most important innocent people in his life. But it really doesn't change anything about his desire to go out and kill people at all costs he thinks are evil. All the story of the 2 seasons did was introduce new reasons for him to find people he wants to kill. He was 100% that same Punisher. Some people apparently thing he's a Terminator with no feelings.
The Punisher forming a bond with someone who isn't a bad guy is not against the comic portrayal.
Punisher isn't one of the deeper characters in the comics but he's not devoid of normal human interaction and motivations.

At this point, they know they need to cut back on content. Wonder Man got rewarded with another season but that’s basically separate from the Doomsday/Secret Wars build.
Since Spidey and possibly Daredevil may still come back into play later, another full movie or show project for Punisher seems a bit much. This is a nice compromise
4
Livio88Mar 24, 2026

I loved Wonder Man, and unless they can pull off a miracle like that again with a relatively unknown character, I’d rather Disney invest in famous ones that’ll work for sure if they’re gonna start cutting back.
Punisher had like 3 movies before mcu even became a thing. That’s definitely one of the last characters they should be wanting to save some money on.

Nope. Punisher's family was killed by the mob in a random shootout while Frank was on a day off having a picnic. The fact that it's random and not payback is important to the character.
