Take all the personal funds from the Sackler family

The infuriating and mind blowing thing is that they worked out a deal that they are not personally responsible, they get to keep their personal assets. They’re just not allowed to b**** about their names taken off buildings.

I’m surprised that a loved one from one of the *many* people that have died because of them haven’t gone after them in vengeance

You underestimate how rich they are and the protection they pay for. They are very aware of who they are and im sure employ a small force to protection themselves.

Sure but ... Where there's a will, there's a way. And for every hired muscle, there's also a person not paid enough to die in the name of some rich sociopath.

I wonder how much your quality of life is impacted when your net worth goes from 11 billion to 4 billion... That said this deal only shields them from further civil lawsuits, it would be absolutely fantastic to see criminal charges that resulted in at least 1 person going to jail over this. Sadly I doubt we will even get that.

At the very minimum, the 81 year old walking corpse that is Richard Sackler should spend the rest of his life defending himself in a criminal trial.

I strongly implied one of my characters killed him in a book I wrote. Which is nothing, I know but made me feel better.

The Sacklers are now getting into the grocery business too. https://www.grocerydive.com/news/ingles-markets-loses-proxy-fight-over-board-seat/818972/

at no point should ingles ever be considered anyone’s favorite grocery store.

I would absolutely rather have Ingles than starve to death over the course of months.
Weeks is debatable, but definitely not months.

Some places don't have actual grocery stores. So I can see anything, even a Walmart Grocery, being someone's favorite when the alternative would be Love's or Casey's.

I’ve been there. I’m in Appalachia and have had either the Waltons or Ingles as my options for affordable groceries

Agreed. I have been surprised by how nice the stores are. Good selection (exceeds stores like Publix), clean, competent and friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Gonna suck if this a-hole turns it into Walmart or even Publix.

Man that's the total opposite of the Ingles store where I am. I routinely end up buying meat that when we get it home and open it it's bad already. The produce is atrocious with all potatoes being green on the shelf and on top of that they charge 2-3 times the price of Aldi for potatoes and meat. They pay their workers very little and keep them all part time to avoid paying benefits. They don't donate food to the food banks, they would rather throw it away. The food banks here are full of Publix products because they actually donate their foods.

Interesting. I've been into multiple stores across northern GA and every one has been good. I wonder why the difference.

Over 900,000 people have died from opioid related deaths since 1999 and not a single f****** person is in prison. They still get to keep billions for themselves even after having to pay out the lawsuit. The Sacklers have not faced any real consequences for their actions and they sadly never will.

Pretty telling how much different these rich drug dealers who killed thousands and thousands of people with their dope were treated.
The two-tiered justice system in the US rides again!
Maybe they gave a judge an RV or something.

I heard something similar on Cops years ago. Cops are trying to get a drunk guy to come out of his trailer and keep referring to it as a trailer. Drunk guy angrily yells, in a deep southern accent no less, "It's *not* a trailer, it's a ***MO-BILE HOME!!!***"
I hate that I've never been able to find a clip of it because it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Yet another example as to why the concept of the Corporate Citizen needs to be neutered. ANY politician not making Citizens United AND campaign spending reforms job 1 on their platform is part of the problem. Your descent into a third world shit hole continues until this problem is solved

I don't disagree, but the concept of the corporate veil is way older, and more robust. It is a common law concept and one that is considered near unbreakable unless certain criteria are met, mainly comingingling of personal of corporate assets or fraud (not the type against consumers of the public, more in terms of incorporatation or management). Neither of those were alleged here.

Right. And the lobbyists in washington continue to widen the gap of that which (under corporate law) is considered legal. Obama doj went after exactly zero wall st execs in the aftermath of the credit default debacle. Characterized by some as the greatest redistribution of wealth in modern history. Ps. The corporate veil is not Citizens United rather one facet
