Hi ☺️
I’ve been thinking about this lately - Do people still write letters?
I kind of miss that slow, intentional kind of connection. I’ve even been thinking about trying it myself, but I’m not sure where to start.
Do you write letters or use any penpal apps?
I’d really love to hear your experience ✉️☺️
I have penpals and also I write postcards via [Postcrossing](https://www.postcrossing.com/)

i looove writing letters and have sent several out, but sadly people rarely write me back :,) i can probs count on one hand how many i’ve received. usually people just text me when they receive it
i want a pen pal but just get nervous due to safety reasons and can’t spend the money for a P.o. box

That’s really lovely, even if it’s a bit sad too.
It’s such a gentle kind of effort, it deserves the same energy back
And yeah, the safety part makes it harder to fully enjoy it 🫤

The last time I wrote a letter was to tell a newly ex-friend off after she blocked me on social media. I think that was in 2022

Very rarely, but the second someone sends one it instantly becomes one of your most valuable possessions. Email has never once had that kind of aura.

I enjoy writing letters. It feels more personal. I currently don't write anyone, due to having a lack of funds and not really having anyone to write. However, if I did find someone to be a pen pal, I'd be over joyed.

That’s really sweet ☺️
I feel like there are probably a lot of people out there looking for the same thing - just not finding each other 🤷

Yeah. Maybe I'll find someone to pen pal with. I just have to figure out which direction to go.

I do, i exchange them with my SO and I ask him for a birthday letter rather than a gift :p
Sometimes also write appreciative notes for friends.

I do, to friends and family etc. I get them still too. A lot of people appreciate getting them.

How weird… I was literally just thinking about how I should handwrite and snail mail a letter out to someone just because I think they might appreciate it and it would shows bit of care that I have been slacking on because I’m not entirely sure where the friendship/relationship stands. I do know they appreciated the letters I wrote before when they were nice and kind words being unburdened from my soul though… I think I will now seeing as this is a pretty good sign to do so…

That sounds like a really nice way to say what you’ve been feeling. I think they’d appreciate it ❤️

I still do! I give out letters to friends on their birthdays and Christmas. Also, I went to HK last 2019 and managed to make a friend in Disney. We mail each other post cards every once in a while 😊
It’s still a nice feeling receiving one, too 🫶🏻

There's an app called Slowly which tries to recreate the spirit of letter writing by delaying messages depending on the distance between the person you're matched with. Unfortunately it's a bit hit and miss, especially when you get a short reply back with no follow-up questions to continue the conversation.

Really love the idea behind it.
It just feels like that kind of communication only works when both people put in the same kind of care and energy

I had a penpal in the states when I was a teenager(I'm in the UK) , and we've been friends on Facebook when the writing dried up. We've effectively watched each other grow up, watched her three kids grow up, and it's so lovely to still be in contact in a way. I think we met on LiveJournal tbh. I'd love to go visit her one day ❤️

I write to DC comics every month in an attempt to get them to bring back my all time favorite couple into canon, Nightwing and Starfire. They're sometimes together in Elseworlds but I want to change that and officially get them back together in the current canon. They're by far each others most popular pairing but DC refuses to bring them in the mainline again!
I will change that even if I have to write a letter to them every month forever.

Have you read the book The Correspondent? It’s about a woman who prefers writing letters over other means of communication. You might like it!

I'm part of many penpal groups on FB and Listnook. You'd be surprised to know that it's a popular hobby. You can also be penpals with or write letters for a cause such as to seniors suffering with loneliness or people in long-term care. Recently, in one of these groups, someone had a small elopement and put a call out for people to send her photos of gag gifts or funny gifts for couples along with funny or meaningful marriage advice. She posted an update a few days later stating she got over a hundred postcards in the last month to thank all those sent it. I hope that answers your questions.

yeah! letters are the best. what i love most about them is that they dont demand you read them right when you receive them, and you can also take your time in replying. such a nice alternative to the concerns of digital communication, and such a delight to receive in the mail. a favorite gift i like to give is watercolor paper postcard packs, so occasionally i will get a postcard / piece of art from my friends and family.

As the founder of The Letter Project (www.theletterproject.net) I actively wrote many letters each week. Unfortunately my health has slowed me down and I'm unable to sit at my desk for longer than a few minutes at a time.

I send a post card to my brother once a week. I started sending him post cards that I collected over the years and there all gone now so I’m making them from cardboard. I also send letters to a few family members a couple/few times a year. Actually yesterday I sent 2 letters out just cause I thought Easter is a good occasion- not religious. I usually just mention something random. I do have a friend from my hometown that we exchange postcards a couple times a year too.

I have thought about writing letters but honestly I don't have anyone to write to!
I have a couple friends where we've started exchanging postcards recently, which was inspired by a recent trip to the post office where I learned they had manatee stamps and I needed those precious sea potatoes stickers. 😂 But we haven't done it a ton.
I'm really not into the penpal apps, I want to receive actual tangible mail!
I have been trying to send birthday cards to people at least, even though I rarely get much from anyone for my own birthday. I just think it's nice to get an actual card rather than a plain old text for your bday.
