Enjoy majority. Run country into ground. Retire. Leave Dems holding the bag. Go on Fox news and blame the state of country on Dems.

To be fair to them, it works every time. Having an electorate with the memory of goldfish and buying up almost all media lets you run with whatever narrative you want.

Don’t even need a Ministry of Truth with memories like that

Why not stay and stand up for the people you begged to represent?

That's not what he signed up for.

Look at Fetterman. Stepping down can be honorable. Look at Biden. Sometimes it's idiotic.

Biden did the right thing, but he waited way too late. He strayed away from the original plan of only seeking 1 term, and Harris (and any other hopefuls) had little time to work with.

That’s what fucked us though. Biden should’ve stuck to running for 1 term. Grave miscalculation to try for a second term and then back out the last minute.

Biden was forced into doing the right thing, it was never a choice he made. He took a lot of embarrassment to not make that choice. It became too overwhelming, and was clearly the only option for him.

Yes, this was it. In fact, I’m wondering who insisted on that June presidential debate. We don’t have presidential debates in June. They start about six weeks out from the presidential election. I’ve always had a hunch that someone on Biden’s team pushed for that so that we could see how far he had declined. Better in the summer than six weeks out from the election. But I agree he needed to step aside much sooner. He really should not have tried for a second term.

“The right thing”, what are you talking about? Biden deciding to run again and using his political power to box everyone else out of the primary is the second biggest reason (behind Trump himself) that we are in this mess. RBG, Biden, Feinstein, Pelosi, Waters, Schumer….. how many political disasters to we have to experience before we admit that an age limit is necessary. Not all old people are incompetent, but it seems like all incompetent old people are unable to recognize or admit their incapacity.

Because he never represented us at all...and he didn't have to beg for the job, since Pat Danner retired (so he didn't have to face an incumbent) & the Democrat Party has pretty much abandoned outstate Missouri for the easy pickings of gathering votes in KC & SL over the past few decades.

He’s been safely in his position for over 20 years, no begging required.

No, just have them go.

What's the total now? I've honestly stopped trying to count.

35 in the House 7 in the Senate

How many of them were up for reelection in November? How many had a seat in jeopardy? How many seats are projected to flip? The only one I know is yes to all of those is Tillis. Edit: Graves is retiring in January so the midterms will have passed.

House terms are two years and aren't staggered so all of those (and pretty sure all 7 of the senators would also have their terms end this year, though Tuberville is technically running for governor instead) Edit: missed the later questions. Most of the retirements were in the +10 R range in the last election per Ballotpedia (though if the 35 number includes people running for other offices those districts are generally a bit more Republican favored) Also Graves is probably retiring in January because that's when his current term actually ends, every announcement I've seen says he's not seeking reelection

Have a greedy and completely selfish ideology that can't stand up to scrutiny and common sense, cut taxes for the very rich, increase debt, start a war, get rich at the average citizen's expense, then quit while everything is going to hell, leave it for the Democrats to fix. Then when people are able to stand on two feet again get out the greedy baseball bat and start hitting everyday people again. Honestly, if you're in their shoes, and you can actually think about things in an intelligent manner, and really believe in some sort of religion or ethical accountancy in the universe, how do you think you're going to heaven? It doesn't make any sense. You are literally doing everything that should send you to hell.

I love the diehards who keep a live tally of the seats in the House and Senate. Like counting the number of deckchairs on the Titanic. There will be no free and fair elections during the midterms. If voter suppression doesn't work, it'll be the DOJ, FBI and Supreme Court who will do the dirty deed.

Until that happens, your comment is counterproductive. We most vote, resist, and not give up hope. If those things happen, then you still must resist. Perhaps in ways we shouldn't discuss online.

Is there any point in this doomer stuff now beyond getting to feel superior to the rubes if and when you get to say “I told you so”?

It’s probably a both sides bad loser that doesn’t vote.
