Spanish energy company Repsol has reached an agreement with Venezuela’s government and state-owned company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) to regain operational control of key oil assets and sharply increase production over the next three years.

This is a massive fail for venezuela. The alien companies are going to milk their resources dry and the people will still be poor af. South America really ought to creat some sort of pact and unite otherwise they'll all be swallowed up

I understand this perspective. But the status quo created the amazing alternative of… the resources being poorly and inefficiently exploited and the people being poor and oppressed. I’m not hopeful that the new paradigm offers a ton more for the people, but the status quo was untenable, and the change is unlikely to be *worse*, even if it’s not much better.
