They believe the lies they were indoctrinated with.
The Christian believers have been told that God created them to be subservient to their husbands in order to honor their creator.
The conservative ones have been told that the way to have a happy marriage and a healthy family is for the man to be in charge of everything and as long as the woman obeys they get to live happily and safely without having to worry about pesky things like autonomy.

Not only that but one of the, admittedly more simple, reasons I think right-wing thought is so pervasive is because some people don't want think about what they should believe and do.
Some folks just prefer having daddy tell them what they should think, how they should act, and what beliefs they should hold. Doing these things on your own takes effort and life can be complicated -- if you are unwilling or incapable of putting in that effort then listening to what you're "supposed" to do and just doing it without question is much simpler.

They’re taught to look down on women who speak, think, and act freely. This is anecdotal, but I was raised by Catholic magats and the jealousy and hatred my mom felt towards other women was sickening. She thought her value only came from making my father happy and that she had to earn his love. She constantly repeated that a woman’s job is to serve her husband. When he spoke (usually something cruel, terrible, racist or sexist) , she would look up at him with the most braindead, subservient expression of adoration. It is grossssss what those women become.

Owning a car is not a requirement for political enfranchisement in the United States.
It sure does sound like you’re agreeing this is a poll tax that could be levied so close to an election that many people will be unable to comply with it though. That’s kinda weird.
Why do you believe that we need this new requirement now, after 250 years of not having it? And if it’s so important, why wouldn’t it be rolled out with the same amount of time to comply as, say, Real ID?

Please describe why this new requirement is necessary when Americans have been voting just fine without it - and then please describe why it must be enforced in time for _this_ election in particular, instead of allowing the 10 years given for people to get Real IDs?

When my wife and I got married, I left the name decision entirely up to her. She chose to keep her last name and honestly, it made complete sense.
For decades, that name was her identity: her career, her reputation, her story. Why would I ask her to erase that?
When I mentioned this to a younger guy, he seemed genuinely confused. His wife, apparently, couldn't wait to change her name almost like the name change itself was the finishing touch that made the marriage feel "official."
when did a last name become the seal of approval on a marriage?
Two people choosing each other is the commitment. A name on a document doesn't change that. My wife is my partner in every way that matters her last name has nothing to do with it.
I guess respect looks different for every couple.

I thought my ex husband was pretty progressive until he fell into the redpill narrative. Started watching all the manosphere shit on Youtube, all of a sudden it was the "M-SHE-U" and how women destroyed his beloved comic book movies and Star Wars. Every time we watched a movie with a woman protag (like Prey), he started bitching about how unrealistic it was.

We had been married for close to a decade and he was no longer the person I once knew. The more I pushed back, the further he fell into typical MAGA territory, except he refuses to vote. "If it happens, it happens."
