They kind of fucked that up by alienating even the parts of the country that supported them before dismantling the machinery of democracy.

Correct. But that's not directly going to directly affect the elections.

You guys will be lucky if you have elections. At the very least you’re going to have armed Gestapo(ICE) intimidating people trying to vote.
2
Silent-StormsApr 2, 2026
+4
There's no mechanism to stop the elections. They will certainly try and pull shit, it will not change the result. Things were bleak AF for them before they took a shit on the global economy. We have 6 months for the fallout to set in. They are going to be losing in places that seem unthinkable right now.

As an outsider looking in, watching A trump endorsed candidate lose in his Florida district was very satisfying. It gives me hope as a Canadian. For me it’s more the intimidation factor of armed Ice at polling stations, arresting PoC Americans trying to Vote. Or if the republicans somehow get that scam voting rights bill passed where it screws over married women. The rest of the free world is rooting for you guys to get your shit in order.

Thanks for your support. One thing I can say definitively about Americans is we don't like being told what to do. Even the right leaners were already on their last nerve and by the time we get to November the country is going to be pretty uniformly livid about the same thing in a way I don't think has happened since the 70s. Hamfisted attempts to scare us away from the polls will backfire badly.
2
RapphApr 2, 2026
+2
The thing thats a weird trait of Americans is I am not sure ICE at the polls ultimately will help republicans. Americans are largely anti-authority in the way they think and hate being told what to do. I wouldn’t be surprised if ICE’s existence at polls greatly increases turnout against republicans at least in states that have large communities of both political parties.
2
Disastrous-Cellist62Apr 3, 2026
+1
No doubt, but with that short voting window will the intimidation factor be enough to swing the vote if you’re specifically targeting PoC, disenfranchising them from voting. The world needs a strong democratic America, Ever since citizens united passed America has been circling the drain towards authoritarianism.

Also no mechanism for a president to raise tariffs. Donald John Trump doesn't care unless there's an active mechanism PREVENTING him from doing something.

> thanks alot for supporting the tons of anti maga Americans who hate this administration.
I'm totally in favor of supporting anti-Nazis, and it shouldn't even be a question after the atrocities of 40-45. "Hate" is the bare minimum a human being could do to a Nazi at that point. US soldiers used to kill them, you know. So to me, it looks like the US is nicer than before.
*Nobody* has a right to dismantle education or election. NO ONE. If a party in the US intends to subvert them, they aren't a *political* party any more but a terrorist group. The US doesn't negociate with terrorists, but maybe it's different when they are domestic?
Either the MAGA sub-party is the biggest scam victim in the history of humanity, or they must all go in trial to decide between the jail or an asylum for having cheered the creation of camps in the US. That country had a billionnaire doing Nazi salutes next to POTUS and was cheered for that?
All Americans, go vote like your life depended on it. Because if Trump had to decide, this conman wouldn't value your lifes at all. GO VOTE! Don't forget to stay updated about SAVE's voting interference (name change like a married woman? ensure you have a passport etc)
Also, if you think Trump's party is going beyond what's acceptable for you, look up the May 1st General Strike. The GOP only cares about their donors.

You Can add A Canadian poster shitting on MAGA to that too. You Maga people are so clueless. It would almost be funny if it wasn’t so sad to watch if America was just in an isolated bubble, however they are not. Maga is quite literally the laughing stock of the entire planet… America lives on borrowed money. Keep alienating your allies the way your clown president has been and how long before countries stop buying American securities and then the American populace has to pay for the runaway deficit through inflation.

Do other countries in Europe and Canada realize how bad Israel is? George Bushes war in Iraq, and Trump now. Netanyahu and his terrorist Israeli regime owns every single American Republican politician and some Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Josh Shapiro. Israel keeps killing any Iranian moderator. In my view Israel keeps screwing up the world!!!!

All Republicans do is take from the people -
It's America first until the people ask for: public education, public health, public infrastructure, public lands, public housing, public libraries, public radio, public television, medical research, social security, IRS, USPS, NOAA, OSHA, suicide prevention, worker rights, minimum wages, school lunches, disaster aid, environmental protections, utility subsides, renewable energy
But they've got trillions of dollars to add to the national debt, build concentration camps across the nation, mass deportations, fund a faceless heavily armed army that answer only to the executive branch, give billions to Israel and Argentina, tax cuts to their wealthiest donors, gold plate the white house, build ball rooms and monuments, renovate theaters, multi million dollar golf outings, private planes, firing then rehiring entire agencies worth of people, invading Venezuela and Iran, protecting rapists...

Cause a lot of republicans actually don’t want any of that stuff. They want to pay for what they need/want as they go. They don’t want it defaulted. I disagree with it but it’s something that needs to be understood about the other side.
1
DrekkfulApr 2, 2026

Thank you for pointing that out. Unfortunately for them the only way this would work is to step down hard on the healthcare industry and effectively eliminate insurance as a practice entirely. Otherwise there'd be a constant need to raise prices as the profit motive is still intact. Also it still leaves anyone disabled or in poverty without any care at all.
2
Consistent_LazinessApr 2, 2026

To address your last thought, they don’t care. “I’m not disabled! Why am I paying for him? That’s him problem.” Classic Republican thinking I promise you.

They don't want those they consider *socially inferior* receiving any of that stuff.
[Conservatism](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conservatism), by definition, is "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, **stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions** (such as religion, the family, and **class structure**), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change".
The benefits of collective purchasing have been shown to [lower prices for the consumer](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6724956/), [better protect their rights in an under-regulated market](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0022435913000225), and [has led to both better \[services\] and lower costs](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10312072/). But it is not about such; it's simply about denying rights and resources to those on the lower echelons of social hierarchy.

GOP: *You know all of those successful social and economic programs that most of Europe has that keep their citizens happier, healthier, and more financially stable than Americans? Yeah, we hate those. Let’s gut the piecemeal, threadbare, meager programs we have here that are similar, and use that money to pay for unpopular things that no Americans asked for!*

This is exactly what Republicans do every single time. They create a crisis through reckless foreign policy decisions and then demand working families pay the price through healthcare cuts. Cutting $30 billion in insurance subsidies to fund a war that 61% of Americans oppose is political malpractice.

There's an entire political *ideology* dedicated to denying health care to the majority of people -- especially those they consider socially inferior -- while promoting funds for organizations that enforce authority via violence.
[Conservatism](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conservatism):
>a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, **stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions** (such as religion, the family, and **class structure**), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change
>specifically **:** such a philosophy calling for \[...\] **a strong national defense**, and for **individual financial responsibility for personal needs** (such as retirement income and **health care coverage**)
If people want health care and less violence, they should consider promoting and voting for the *opposing ideology*.
[Progressivism](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/progressivism):
>a political philosophy and social reform movement focused on **advancing the public good through government action** and often **calling for government to be used to meet popular social, political, economic, and environmental needs** and demands and to **advance rights and protections for marginalized groups**
