I doubt they would give an update on the status of the missing pilot during an active SAR, but at this point he may have been KIA and they’re searching for a body

Iran could have him and not publicize it. It would keep the CSAR team on the ground and occupied. Iran might choose to engage team. The CSAR team isn’t big enough to invade and killing some of them is another black eye for the US. They can always publicize the capture later. IDK. Just a thought. I don’t know shit.

CSAR - combat search and rescue group from the air force. That's an HC-130J, a C-130 variant for CSAR operations outfitted with the ability to refuel to extend the helicopters' flight time. Not as familiar with helicopters but likely 2 HH-60 Pave Hawks, modified Black Hawks.
It's riskier to fly in daytime, it's more common for them to fly at night really low and with no lights/radio, just NVG (night vision). But they definitely have fighter support overhead keeping on site while they're doing this.
The group is carrying PJs - pararescue special forces, the guys who get people and equipment from behind enemy lines. They're h******* guys they have a higher washout rate than SEALs and they're all certified paramedics.
The idea is either the helicopters land and secure the pilot if there's a good landing site. Otherwise they parachute in, including 3 PJs in the C-130, move to the pilot and secure an extraction elsewhere.
When they came to my AFROTC career day they were badass. They showed off their dirt bikes and ATVs, that's the kind of stuff they'll airdrop in with to get in and out fast.

"The number of casualties sustained by the Taliban fighters has also been disputed. [Naval Special Warfare Command](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Special_Warfare_Command) has estimated that Luttrell and his teammates killed around thirty-five insurgents during the battle. Andrew MacMannis, a former Marine Colonel who was involved in planning Operation Red Wings and assisted in recovering bodies after the mission, has stated that there were no known enemy casualties. Mohammad Gulab, the Afghan villager who rescued Luttrell, agrees with MacMannis, as does another Marine who was involved with the mission, Patrick Kinser, who has said, "I've been at the location where \[Luttrell\] was ambushed multiple times. I've had Marines wounded there. I've been in enough firefights to know that when shit hits the fan, it's hard to know how many people are shooting at you. \[But\] there weren't 35 enemy fighters in all of the Korengal Valley \[that day\]." Furthermore, Gulab has claimed that he found Luttrell with eleven magazines of ammunition – the full amount that Luttrell had brought on the mission" from Wikipedia

Luttrell’s account should be disregarded as he was off and running as soon as the shooting started.
The Navy inflated the numbers of enemy combatants and put the original seal team into a situation they weren’t trained to handle and had already been advised by the Marine’s who had been working in that specific area that their plan was going to get people killed

In all fairness, I don’t think it was his decision to make. When you watch interviews with Luttrell, he doesn’t glorify the battle and he doesn’t pretend that he’s a hero. He has outright said “I’m a coward, I did the one thing you never do, I dropped my rifle”. I suspect that this is more on the Navy, ultimately they review and approve any military-action books before they’re published. Wouldn’t surprise me if they wrote the book and told him to just play the part

I have some sympathy for the US soldiers. For some underprivileged kids, joining the military is really the only way out of poverty depending on where you're from. It's the only realistic way to pay for college (the military will pay for your degree) and earn a livable income.
If this person signed up years ago with Biden in office, it would have been perfectly reasonable that they would have expected to spend their entire career in the army without being dragged into any stupid wars.

> If this person signed up years ago with Biden in office, it would have been perfectly reasonable that they would have expected to spend their entire career in the army without being dragged into any stupid wars.
Eh, I wouldn't downplay the Democrats that much. They also love wars, because the capitalist class need wars(as Lenin [explained](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQrXV92V31s)), but the Democats don't just start wars. That's the difference.

I understand why one would join the military.
I also think they don't deserve any sympathy, though. The fact that they may have a shitty life without military, doesn't mean they can bring chaos and misery to others.

Dude stop. The American military primarily recruits from the middle class. & no it wouldn’t have been perfectly reasonable under Biden unless your memory is 4 years long. This is the 4th war of my life. You guys need to wake up and stop the jingoistic American Mythos c***. It’s not real, never has been.
If you don’t know what America and its military does at this point, you’re willfully ignorant.
The data actually shows that poor kids actually find other ways to survive more often than not. Most soldiers are just middle class dudes who didn’t want to work hard at a trade or profession & wanted to join a jobs program, get benefits & live off our taxes while being immoral. There’s a reason our SA rates are astronomical for our soldiers

Pilots have far more leverage and education.

If you're a soldier, your entire job is killing people.
Thats what they signed up for. They chose to be a murderer for money. They chose to be a soldier.
How does poverty justify the slaughter of people in other countries ?
Is it because the poor Americans are more important than the lives of people in other countries?

I just read a fantastic long-form article about it from The Guardian that is very much worth a read. It's about how misleading it is to ask if this was Claude or ChatGPT because this is a tech stack a decade in the making and run by Palantir after Google was forced by employees to abandon the contract. It's called **Maven**:

If you don’t want to get lost or captured in a foreign nation, a good trick for this is:
Do not sign up for a military that is infamously known for its invasions of West Asian nations.

Those CSAR guys are some of the most elite in the entire US armed forces. SEALs and Delta get a lot of pop culture attention but these guys are truly a different breed.
