I trust him as a director hopefully it's good

In an interview he had said he's played through almost all of the games multiple times 🤞

He's also said that the movie will basically have nothing to do with any of the existing games or their characters or stories, IIRC So...🤷 Is it really Resident Evil if it's just a story about zombies and gross monsters from a virus/mold/etc? I'm guessing he's going to lean into the RE7/8 universe and it's going to be about normal people who get infected by a mold person and do fucked up things as a result. So it'll be Weapons, but with mold zombies instead of witchcraft.

Honestly, a movie set in the world but unconnected to game characters and events would be ideal.

> Is it really Resident Evil if it's just a story about zombies and gross monsters from a virus/mold/etc? Yeah? That’s basically all that Resident Evil is. What else (for example) do RE3, 4, and 7 have in common? A Fallout show approach is the best: new story about new characters set in the world of the games. Now, the movie is most likely not canon directly, but nonetheless, it’s a good approach.

Nah, you're wrong. It's about a plant. /s

I don’t need it to re-tell the story of any of the games or even have the same characters. I just want it to actually take place in the same universe and respect the source material. The other film adaptations did not do that.

I'm still so confused at what they did to Leon in the last one, making him a dumb comedy relief sidekick who can't handle a gun.

I hated that movie for that reason specifically

Isn’t that what he was in RE2?

Acrobatic_Yellow_781 6 days ago +14
No? He was an actual good rookie cop. The RPD and his future co-workers were excited to have him join the force because he was a academy star

No. Not even a little bit.

You never played Resident Evil 2, did you?

It’s gotta be a cool, gun-fu action movie with hot chicks in tube tops and/or spandex bodysuits in order to respect the source material.

Headline is a little misleading. The full quote: Speaking to The New York Times, Cregger admitted that when he hears of an adaptation of a video game he loves, he usually responds with: “don’t ruin this for me.”

Yeah there seem to be many people in these comments upset at this quote without understanding its context. As if Cregger was temling fans "dont ruin this opportunity for me" when that's not what he's saying at all

Well don't ruin it for us, then.

Fairly sure there was another thread saying the film doesn’t adapt anything from the games plot wise. So basically, he can’t ruin it because I imagine it’ll just be a Cregger horror film with zombies and maybe a licker tossed in? No clue how good of an adaptation it’ll be, but I’m confident it’ll be a good movie.

There's plenty of room to use the characters without touching any of the plot in the games. Just need to have things make sense for wherever they take place. Though I do suspect that means we'll get some of the more popular characters, be that leon or like, wesker. Lol

I’d be surprised if there’s any established characters involved. And if they were, I *really* doubt they’d resemble the character we know and love. I imagine it’ll be an all new cast using the RE identity and probably a few monsters.

I feel like they could easily include someone like wesker, more in his corporate role, without really risking anything about mischaracterization. Unless they're going all in on some boulder punching, I assume any established characters that get used will be in a side role rather than some main cast sort of way.

They could, but I think they’ll lean towards RE7 more than anything. New setting, nee characters, with some big reveal of Umbrella being behind it all. You show Wesker or any of the other characters you’re getting swept in to discussions of when it takes place, is it canon to the games, is Wesker a superhuman, where is Leon, is Chris in his boulder puncher era etc, and now fans are waiting for the rest like it’s a marvel movie. There’s only really a few ways to do an adaptation of a long running franchise, you either start from zero with the characters and grow them organically or you do something wholly original and pray to god the fans latch onto it like they did with 7.

I have the feeling that this is gonna be a great Movie, but an awful representation of Resident Evil. If this Movie isnt goofy af, with over the Top Level BOWs and so bad its funny Dialogue its gonna be a bad RE Movie.

It's Zach Cregger, one of the lads from WKUK. I'm sure you'll get exactly the goofy schlock you're looking for considering his past history in comedy. Also Weapons was pretty goofy at times "Hepatitis?? AIDS??"

I’m not sure it will be good, but it will be leagues better than what’s already been made. The bar is low.

If its a unrelated story to the main cast of the games he just needs to not butcher the setting or go against the lore. If its a good movie then we can all enjoy it. Just dont replace and shoehorn new characters into the games characters story roles or locations. Say its a different perspective of the Raccon city incident, id be down for that.

I think the amount of people who are true die-hard fans that take the lore seriously is a pretty slim percentage of the people who are going to see this.

God I miss Trevor Moore and would have loved to see him cameo in Weapons or this reboot, even for a moment. Can't believe it's nearly been 5 f****** years. RIP to the goat. Zach Creggers will do fine. Timmy as an RPD officer that's ripped apart??

Is this film in the same continuity as the games? So many contradicting reports

If it doesn't work out, he could always go back to being a really convincing cross dresser in a sketch comedy series.

I'd love Timmy as Marvin Branagh, mainly cause it'd be pure comedy to see Timmy ripped to shreds and still be alive briefly, having his guts all around.

Then why name it after an established franchise?
