You know, I think this movie could’ve been pretty good. The cast is fine for the most part—my only real issue is Leon. But overall, I think if they had either just focused on RE1 alone or told the RE2 and RE3 storylines at the same time, it would’ve turned out much better. The set design works for the budget, and the props and outfits are fine to me—they just needed to stick closer to the original story.
I was so weirded out by how they made Leon, one of the franchise's biggest if not biggest protagonist, into a bad comedy relief sidekick.

Yea I thought the same. They had almost all the right ingredients but I just hated everything all the characters did and said.

Resident evil but all the dialogue is copied from a knockoff CN guardians of the galaxy script which went through google translate and then chatgpt. This movie was just dreadful.
*Nemesis charges through the wall* “STARS”.
Jill: “Well that was unexpected..!”
Leon: “YOOOOO WHAT THE FUIUUUCKK!!!! CHECK THIS OUT GUYS!!!”
Claire comes running in: “HOLY SHIT!! Leon I didn’t know your family was coming over!!”
Leon falls silent as Jill and Claire both start laughing. Nemesis sits in the background for like 15 seconds doing nothing. Repeat for 90 minutes.

>they just needed to stick closer to the original story
Which they did more than the other movies, so that's a win. But I agree. It's almost pretty good.

I agree on the ‘budget-realistic’ take.

Worst part for me was the script/dialogue. Lost count of how many times “f***” was said. I get peppering a few in, especially given the situation the characters are in, but genuinely EVERY sentence spoken contained the word. Just really took me out of the movie with how bad it was.
Seeing the RPD in live action did give me chills the first time. The set pieces were great.

It boggles my mind how every single adaptation of Resident Evil fails to deliver so badly when the source material for the storyline is right f****** there. The screenwriters are like “yeah, nah we’ll do our own thing aye. She’ll be right mate”. F****** useless cunts.

Man the Leon casting was weird, dude looked nothing like the character and didn't have that rookie cop energy at all. You're right about trying to cram too much in though - RE1 has enough material for a full movie without rushing through both games. The zombie makeup was actually decent for what they were working with, just wish they'd trusted the source material more instead of trying to "fix" it.

Leon's no sacred cow to me so I've no problem with his changes. Can't have an entire cast of stoic badass soldiers with strong jawlines.
I have a soft spot for the film but it had the budget and energy of an old-school straight-to-dvd movie.

Yes that’s the main issue with most of the RE movies. And the new one that’s being made is once again based on the directors “own perspective” of it, instead of the source material, so it’ll probably be bad too.

Well it’s based on the source but with new characters and story, and it’s Zack Cregor so I am definitely somewhat optimistic about this one even if Wesker probably ain’t showing up

I saw The Gorge film and I thought this could have been a great Resident Evil film. I think what I hated about the last RE movie was it couldn't decide if it was a horror film or an action film first, and the indecision made the film suffer.

Every horror movie that has some reveal there’s a high tech laboratory underneath the initial setting reminds me of resident evil

Some people should be charged with crimes for the casting and writing decisions for Leon
