The great blond bull Bodacious was retired bc he was considered too cunning and dangerous to ride. He was going to kill, he was *trying*, he had created special lethal moves that others didn’t have. Even out to pasture, he was like Moby D*** roaming the ocean. I agree. The Manfighters deserve a prize. And then the prize should go extinct along with the cruelty. Humans suck.

jepcasey Apr 7, 2026 +2
This reminds me of Seneca's sorrowful commentary on bloodsports in the coliseum: "You should thank the immortal gods that the men to whom we are giving a lesson in cruelty are not in a position to benefit from it." I can't blame a manfighting bull for learning the lesson in cruelty we gave it. Retire the animals, honor them when they die, even honor the bullfighters who meant a lot to the culture if that's what is right, but end the blood ritual for good.

A_Nonny_Muse Apr 5, 2026 +20
But then never allow the bull to come out of retirement.

If they made that a rule then it would at least even the odds a little. Should just be a 1on1, give the dude a dagger and one of those small buckler shields. If the bull wins then they just open the doors and he can go. Also he gains citizenship so it's illegal to harm him.

If you’ve ever heard of Bodacious, you’ll see a bull who has avenged his brothers worldwide like a four-hooved Moby D***. One of the angriest and most dangerous bulls to ever live. I hate animal cruelty.
90
covfefe-boy Apr 5, 2026 +39
Damn you weren't kidding, [Bodacious has a helluva wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodacious_(bull)). Seems like a missed opportunity to have named him Bulldacious though :D
39
Rule12-b-6 Apr 5, 2026 +27
I remember seeing Bodacious at the rodeo when I was a little kid. Extraordinarily athletic bull that would land his front legs and then jump with them again before his hind legs came down, causing riders to smash their faces.
27
Wolfwoods_Sister Apr 5, 2026 +9
My god! You got to see the deity in action! I’ve only ever seen video of him and he’s just a beast. Watching him, you know he’s a cunning foe, he’s pissed, and he’s going to absolutely wreck someone like an angry dragon. Something that big and powerful moving so fast and jerking his body so quickly in so many directions was just wild. What an amazing athlete.
9
Wolfwoods_Sister Apr 5, 2026 +10
Hahaha! Right?! I’ll tell ya something though! “Bodacious”, way back in the old south, used to mean “evil” or “bedeviled”, like someone or something that was an agent of the devil. They used to say “Blue jays are bodacious birds” bc superstition held that they’d report to the Devil. So the name *Bodacious* fit him better than most knew. And good for him. He was a clever boy and meted out vengeance on everyone blythe enough to think he could be humiliated.

These people try to make a sport from antagonizing animals and then give them nicknames.
7
Wolfwoods_Sister Apr 6, 2026 +7
I know. :( They admit to hurting and scaring them, but act like it’s not a big deal bc it’s not a big deal *for them*. The humans can choose the pain they put themselves through for the “sport”. The animals can’t. They live trapped in the present, not knowing when it will end or what will come at them before it’s over.

2

There are certainly some issues with American rodeo, though in contrast we also developed the rodeo sport of Freestyle Bullfighting, where you just run away and hide from the bull for as long as you can. It’s a mixed bag.
5
ApolloRocketOfLove Apr 5, 2026 +61
There's still an immense amount of animal cruelty at American rodeos. Its disgusting.
61
irishspice Apr 5, 2026 +6
TIL about Freestyle Bullfighting. I've always sort of thought that's what the rodeo clown did but now it's a sport. It makes me wonder if rodeos are getting the message that the public has found out about the cruelty. Personally, I think all calf ropers go straight to hell.

They torture the animal, blind it, then slowly kill it with spears. If he was a conventional bullfighter, then it’s very hard to have much sympathy for him.

PuzzleheadedLimit994 Apr 5, 2026 +180
Spanish bull-fighting is one of the most barbaric legally regulated sports in the world. If the bull survives the stabbings from the matador - he is then given a tour around the ring to honor the bull's performance, being slaughtered quickly thereafter.
180
ItsAlexTho Apr 5, 2026 +41
When I was a kid my school forced us to go talk to a matador and he told us the reason the kill them after even if they live is because they are too smart and would learn too much. If that’s true, the matador is allowed to learn and improve but the bull isn’t..
41
Wolfwoods_Sister Apr 6, 2026 +23
When Bodacious was a young bull, an amateur rodeo rider got stuck on his back, sliding onto the bull’s side, scaring Bodacious very badly. The man that owned him said he was a different creature after that day. Bodacious deeply internalized that fear, turned it into rage, and became a calculating murder machine. He taught himself new moves. These moves would be spread through the ranks of the riders to be on alert but Bo would pull out a brand new one to f*** you up with. He’d flip your legs behind you and then smash your face in, not once, but twice. All in a matter of seconds before chucking you into the dirt. He didn’t just want you off his back. He *hated* you. He wanted to *kill* you. And he could. Because some humans terrified and terrorized him as a young thing. I always wondered how he would’ve been if humans had just left him the hell alone.

16
the_blackfish Apr 5, 2026 +75
Multiple javelins stuck into the shoulders weaken the neck muscles to the point where the bull cannot easily raise its head. As the bull tires, the head lowers and blood flows down the neck into the face/eyes. edit: this is not the idea behind their tactics, it is just things that can happen after getting stabbed to shit
75
willflameboy Apr 5, 2026 +39

Worse than that, every anti-bullfighting protest is answered by a pro-bullfighting one that's much larger. While the 'sport' is definitely frowned upon by younger generations, not enough people come out to rallies.
5

That's wildly unfair to brothels.
100
mlc885 Apr 5, 2026 +22
Yeah, I have never been but I assume you could *somehow* find a semi-ethical brothel *somewhere* I do not think there is any way to say that about angering/scaring and torturing an animal. Not that I am particularly optimistic about any ethical prostitution *really* existing, it just is not at all comparable to hurting some animal for a show.
22
dickqueeferX_x_X_ Apr 5, 2026 +8
I read something about a brothel in Nevada (I think?) unionizing recently. I’d imagine they’re pretty close at this point.

Hijacking this comment to say that they even murdered Ferdinand the peaceful bull of the famous kid’s classic book. When I found out, I had to fight not to cry. It was a favorite story of mine as a child.

17
Wolfwoods_Sister Apr 6, 2026 +18

18
rezwrrd Apr 6, 2026 +11
My kids and I love that book but every time we get to the part where they take Ferdinand back to his home I _seriously_ doubt it. Also the part where he "wouldn't fight back and be fierce no matter what they did" which doesn't show but seems to imply that they're poking him with the pins and spears trying to get him to fight. It's a sweet story and beautifully illustrated but I can't help but be sad every time I read it because of how it glosses over and kind of normalizes animal cruelty.
11
Wolfwoods_Sister Apr 6, 2026 +5
Never tell the kids what really happened to him in the end. It’s too awful.
5
rezwrrd Apr 6, 2026 +5
I just read the real story of Civilón, and they'll just have to wait until they're grown up and find out for themselves like I'm doing right now. Some of the books we read together inspire further study into the context and history of the subject but we're just going to enjoy the story as-is on this one.
5
DemoHD7 Apr 5, 2026 +79
Hate to break it to you, but its not. All bulls are meant for slaughter at the fights. If it happens to harm or kill a matador, he will be saved and be a more anticipated challenge for the next matador.

Animals in the meat and dairy industry go through the same torture and pain to be honest. It's just that this is for show and the others aren't. But the best we can do is source from fair farmers with high standards of animal welfare and reduce animal products intake. Find alternatives that work with plant based options. I always used butter for my pasta's and rice to give it a rich creamy flavour. I now use olive oil, i have tens of these types of alternatives I use.

**Matadors are cowards.** If bullfighting was not a fake sport like wrestling, those strutting cosplay matadors should have to take on an uninjured healthy bull...and **there would be very few, if any, matadors.** Bullfighting is a deceptive, brutal and outright cruel so-called "sport." Before the "bullfight," bulls are horribly abused...they are taunted, then stabbed repeatedly and bled out until they are terrified, enraged and *near death*. Once they are sure the bull is weak, worn out and dying, the brave, make believe macho matadors strut into the arena where they taunt the bulls again, wear them down more, then they **they stab them to death.** If Matadors get gored they deserve no compassion given the cruelty and unimaginable pain they inflict on an animal that has no choice but to be literally tortured...then the terrified bull is stabbed to death. What the hell is honorable or decent about that shocking level of animal cruelty? Compassion for the animals is zero and that is disgusting, sadistic and frankly just stupid.

Live by the bull die by the bull. Seems fair. Poor bull.

space_coyote_86 Apr 5, 2026 +2
The bulls: word around the ring says he's retired now, this might be our last chance to get the b******.

Revenge is a dish best served cold

ztreHdrahciR Apr 5, 2026 +2
The only bullfight I'd ever watch is with Bugs Bunny

"There is no retiring from this"
2
Frenchtickler424 Apr 5, 2026 +2
Was he retired before or after the bull killed him?
2
Catymandoo Apr 5, 2026 +2
Kinda both I guess. One by choice of each “competitor”!
2
yinglish119 Apr 5, 2026 +2
I saw a bullfight in Spain back in early 2000's not a fan. I was more like wtf 10 people picking on 1 bull.
2
NewTimeTraveler1 Apr 5, 2026 +2
I saw it on a high school trip. I was shocked!
2
Mescaper Apr 5, 2026 +2
This is STILL happening?!

phredbull Apr 5, 2026 +2
He died doing what he loved.
2
tdclark23 Apr 5, 2026 +2
That's what Hegseth should have been doing to prove how macho he is. In a better country he'd be performing veronicas in the ring to prove he's a man and not bombing school girls.

_thepoetinmyheart_ Apr 6, 2026 +2
Someone post this in r/nottheonion

Staff_Guy Apr 6, 2026 +2
Not to be overly pedantic, but if he was killed by a bull it would appear that it was during the bullfight, not ahead of. Now, senior matador might not have known that the fight had started....
2
_PM_ME_YOUR_FORESKIN Apr 6, 2026 +2
If the life you live result in your title being “matador” (killer), you’re doing something wrong.
2
Zanian19 Apr 6, 2026 +2
Ha! Better late than never
2
AppendixN Apr 6, 2026 +2
Finally something good in the news.
2
Rottimer Apr 6, 2026 +2
It’s only fair that they get a few. If it was up to me, I’d the bull kills a matador, it should get to live.
2
swishandswallow Apr 6, 2026 +2
This isn't the Harlem Globetrotters, the bull has to win sometimes
2
Cubanitto Apr 6, 2026 +2
I've always been a Bulls fan.
2
EQBallzz Apr 6, 2026 +2
Well you know what they say..mess with the bull get retired permanently. I hate this shit. Not saying the man deserved to die but maybe stop the animal cruelty and you won't get killed by pissed off animals.
2
Sorry-Belt-3514 Apr 6, 2026 +2
“How in the hell you get killed, on ya’ day off?!!!” 😖🚽
2
Bastet999 Apr 5, 2026 +2
Oh my god, is the bull ok?
2
iamstephen1128 Apr 5, 2026 +2
Live by the bull, die by the bull 🤷🏿‍♂️
2
esepajaronegro Apr 5, 2026 +3
Shitty reporting omits the bull's name, breed, & location of the fatal goring.

Something is wrong with a culture that extolls the murder of animals for sheer entertainment
3
LTTP2018 Apr 5, 2026 +3
Retired animal torturer killed by bull ahead of glorified animal torture event in southern Spain. doesn't everyone know the bulls are aggressive because a strap to stab their underbelly/genitals is used?
3
xunreelx Apr 5, 2026 +2
Yay! chalk one up for the good guys!
2
Pineapple_Ferguson Apr 5, 2026 +2
Sure do hope it hurt like hell.
2
fermat9990 Apr 5, 2026 +2
How many of that bull's relatives had the matador murdered during his career?
2
Scu-bar Apr 5, 2026 +2
Good for him [the bull]
2
Dimhilion Apr 5, 2026 +2
HAHA, that is karma for you. I cannot stand animal cruelty, in any form, so I always root for the animal to win. I make no apologies for that.
2
wastingtoomuchthyme Apr 5, 2026 +2
I always cheer for the bull.
2
Early_Lion6138 Apr 5, 2026 +2
I visited Spain in 1985, went to see a bullfight, was expecting the romanticized, glorious spectacle that I read and heard about. The bull had its neck muscles cut so its head hung down, spears into its head to cause pain. It was not for me.
2
anuiswatching Apr 5, 2026 +2
Karmic justice for killing bulls for entertainment
