As they should…? It’s a rare feat for the inverse to occur.

I was reading Crossed just yesterday and came to the conclusion that what comes out of Garth Ennis is just f****** shock art.  This was never going to be anything but that.   At least with the Crossed you won't get a TV show.   I hope.

God that comic sucks. I'm worried to ever reread Preacher. It's the story that got me into comics in college and it holds a dear place in my heart.

Preacher is far better than Ennis’ other work (besides his Punisher run and some parts of The Boys). Seems like the inherent *lack* of superheroes (a trope which Ennis absolutely despises and openly mocks in every one of his superhero comics) helps him generate a much better story. Unfortunately, the Preacher tv show is pretty shit after season 1 and deviates heavily from the source material.

You're right holy shit that's ridiculous.   I imagine it's going to be toned down, it has to be.

Is crossed the comic that has the circle of salt scene? I stumbled upon that on internet forums as a kid and it scarred me.

Arguably his Punisher Max stuff was better. But ya never liked Ennis that much.

Punisher Max is easily his best run imo. Maybe it's because my expectations were lower, but I went in expecting a "f*** yeah shooting people is fun" kinda comic and instead got something much more layered and varied. There's a great mix between Tarantino-esque criminal black comedy, deep character study, thought-provoking social commentary, gratuitous violence, and some real harrowing shit. Marvel could make a prestige TV show adapting all of it and it'd be their most acclaimed show by far. It's absurd how good that comic is.

I kinda fell off mid season 2, not because the show wasn’t good, just wasn’t sure I wanted some of it in my head.

Yup. For me it got worse and felt lower budget over time, and I thought the shock value wasnt even that interesting anymore.

I've noticed it's gotten very light on plot. It feels like I'm just watching people have the same few conversations in the same sets haha

Yeah idk if you though it was funny to laugh at the horrible shit before but now its too real I dont think you really understood a part of the show. I dont disagree with the article 100% but that part I do

Well, being shocking would be a step up from being boring as f*** like last season.

"Shocks for the sake of it" as if the entire show up until now couldnt have the same thing said about it,

Needs much better writers who aren't hyperfixated on American politics and instead focused on character development

The source material IS about American politics and corporatism

Yet it was able to actually keep consistent characters that weren't spineless push overs, a vibe of friendship among the boys, a believable relationship between Annie and hughie, homelander actually being a interesting character besides being a trump metaphor, no unnecessary fluf cutaways with irrelevant characters.  The show lost itself

Now I am probably one of the few people who regularly reads the Boys and its Tie-Ins once a year, but the book is pure miserableness p***. Annie and Hughie are the only light, at the end, everything else and everyone else is really being treat like shit, storylines are done in a way that makes you feel awful when they conclude, and the last few issues just make you want to watch a movie about some awful real life massacre, because it would be more happy than what you read there. I read that book to want to feel awful for a few days. The show does a better job with the premise, and I like what they did with Frenchie and Her. I haven't seen the latest episodes yet, but I take the show season 1-3 over the comics for sure.

For real. I can recognise that The Boys is decently well written but f*** me it's so relentlessly dark that I just had to put it down. Reading it would put me in a funk and just ruin my mood. It's the most mean-spirited thing I've ever read.

You’re a little ray of sunshine huh. You ever stop and think maybe just maybe…I don’t have to be negative towards other people

Then what would they have left?

Sure but you can commentate with bashing your political views through the skulls of the audience each season. It gets to a point where it’s so on-the-nose that it ruins the immersion. Seasons 1-3 were subtle, now it’s nearly unwatchable

Yea it's a hard watch. Some pretty cringey shit in it. I really liked the early episodes but now it's pretty lame. I cannot stomach the starlight character at all. She just complains, and her face is so goddamned fucked up now I can't even look at her

Kimiko talking is annoying as f***. Like, why did her entire personality switch up just because she started to talk? All the trauma, the trails that she's endured just erased and now she's a valley girl? I get the learned to speak from tiktok thing but still it is jarring. Anytime they get away from the on the nose political stuff and concentrate on The Boys and Boys/Homelander dynamic it is interesting but unfortunately 90 percent of it is the on the nose political stuff. Unfortunately they don't know how to do that cleverly and it just drags the show.
