Operation Desert Thunder (Nov–Dec 1998) was a U.S.-led military build-up in the Persian Gulf designed to compel Iraq to comply with UN weapons inspections. It involved a massive deployment of coalition Operation Epic Blunder (Feb 2026-???) is a social media waged war with no leadership in sight and no end in sight, not to mention any clearly stated objectives, despite the war being declared completed and won multiple times. It is a crapshow and a cluster[redacted] conducted by a thin-skinned tyrant that is more interested in ballroom renovations than ending his war of choice.

They renamed it so they don’t need congressional approval. Apparently you can just do that lol absolutely no checks and balances in the US government right now lol

Guys, we're moving on to phase 9 of the two phase plan!
11
NobodyLikedThat1 May 6, 2026 +6
I don't wonder if that's not because of the technicalities of how we can continue a conflict without calling it a war or getting Congress involved. Like you're allowed to do 60 day operations, so is there nothing that says you can't just have a bunch back to back?
6
PepperMill_NA May 6, 2026 +6
I am going to go with, Rubio is full of shit. Changing the name doesn't change the fact that the war is ongoing.

Only if she agrees to testify how Obama was actually running Epstein all along, and Trump was the hero for bravely pretending to be Epstein’s friend for over 2 decades just to help bring him to justice. Amazon is already bidding on the picture rights.

8
SYLOH May 6, 2026 +1
Ironically it's pretty much the same loophole Congress uses to go on lengthy recesses without allowing recess appointments. Just keep declaring recesses that are shorter than the length that would require the legal stuff to kick in.
1
Orposer May 5, 2026 +18
Half of Congress is ok with this and so are some Dems..
18
BrofessorFarnsworth May 5, 2026 +34
Cool. Make them go on record with a vote.
34
Orposer May 6, 2026 +1
They did. They had a vote to rain Trumps war powers. Some Dems voted not to.
1
Front_River7314 May 6, 2026 +2
rain? surely you mean something else then water from the skies no?
2
BrofessorFarnsworth May 6, 2026 +2
I mean a vote to authorize the war.
2
I_Roll_Chicago May 6, 2026 +8
Isnt that an authorization in all but name? Besides what does this accomplish, wouldnt be the first time in my lifetime i watched dem authorize a dumb republican lead middle eastern war. Doesnt seem to ever cost them aside from a few cases
8
BeancheeseBapa May 5, 2026 +5
Yep. Israel pays off more than the executive.
5
horatiowilliams May 6, 2026
And the vast majority of Iran's population that wants freedom from this regime.
0
rayEW May 5, 2026 -33
You know that's not legally necessary right? Just a courtesy and a made up narrative here on listnook that its a legal needed process. Obama did it on Libya, Biden in Yemen. The difference is when Trump does it, listnook has a collective meltdown. If Trump wanted to go through the 60 days, congress wouldn't do jack shit and neither would the supreme court. Listnook made up narratives don't mean anything, other than for all of you and your fantasy world. Edit: I think this blockade is hurting the IRGC very bad, and their desperation to go back to war while the US laughs about it says a lot.

Sure, listnook is full of decade old bots I understand for all of you morons, when someone is not repeating your c*** in your favorite echo chamber, it must be a bot.... Lol
-5
Skittle69 May 6, 2026 +1
Didn't say that, just that an account being years old isn't a defense.
1
rayEW May 6, 2026
Against being a bot? It actually is, you think Russian bots were being planted in 2014 to talk about 2026 events? Would you like me to link you my discussions on the mountain bike sublistnook from 10 years ago asking how to fix my wheelie problems?
0
Skittle69 May 6, 2026 +1
None of that changes the fact that you can buy accounts. Does it make it less likely? Sure. It doesn't make it impossible though.
1
rayEW May 6, 2026
Ok, I give up, I guess I'm a russian bot. Nothing short of alignment to the echo chamber is acceptable human behavior.

20
horatiowilliams May 6, 2026 -27
But Iran was not free. You were just exploiting the IRGC's repression of Iranians for c**** oil.
-27
I_Roll_Chicago May 6, 2026 +24

13
SilveryDeath May 5, 2026 +12
> “The operation is over,” Rubio said at a White House briefing. “We’re done with that stage of it.” **In its place, Rubio clarified, the United States has shifted to a “defensive” posture focused more on restoring commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz**, the narrow waterway that carries a significant share of the world’s energy supplies and has effectively been choked off since the conflict intensified. So the war is over, despite the US blockade (which is an act of war) still being ongoing. So the defensive efforts are to protect the blockade to force open the Strait [and get things "back to the way it was" with the Strait as Marco said earlier,](https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/marco-rubio-iran-white-house-cypress-hill-b2971028.html) you know like how it totally open with no issues before this war started.
12
WisdomCow May 5, 2026 +26
Pretending the “war” is over and now everything is defensive in nature is pure propaganda.
26
PrefersEarlGrey May 5, 2026 +27
So we're just going to paper push renaming the war every 60 days to skirt the law requiring congressional approval? Where is Congress? Why have they ceded all power to the president? This is insanity.
27
T8ert0t May 6, 2026 +17

cool so the straight is open then?
27
horatiowilliams May 6, 2026 -24
It's the IRGC's responsibility to open the Strait. If the IRGC wants to keep an international strait closed to international traffic, somebody has to counterblockade the IRGC. It's only fair. Europe has been exploiting oppressed Iranians for c**** oil.
-24
wgszpieg May 6, 2026 +12
Europe hasn't been buying Iranian oil for years
12
needlestack May 6, 2026 +4
It's probably worth remembering the only reason they closed it is because they were attacked. And the reason they were attacked is because they were allegedly trying to make a nuclear weapon -- something there is zero credible evidence for, and something they agreed not to do *with international inspections* until the US blew up the deal. So, you know. Bit of a clusterfuck from the US. Oh, yes, and all of us should be getting off oil for a great many reasons. Would be easier without the US fighting against that move tooth and nail for decades.
4
Gigas69 May 5, 2026 +8
I don't want to state my opinion on the situation under an article that i've sent myself. I recommend everybody to read the article. I watched the briefing myself and this article, in my opinion, does a good job of summarizing it.

“[Rubio] added that the United States would bear the primary burden of the mission…. “This is a favor to the world,” he said, noting that many of the stranded vessels belong to foreign nations now facing shortages of food, water, and essential supplies aboard ships stuck at sea.” Favour to the world  thanks, Marco!

horatiowilliams May 6, 2026 -11
IRGC proxies such as the Houthis sell 100,000s of underage girls into sexual slavery every single year. Yemen, Lebanon and Gaza are ground zero for IRGC warmongering. Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis are all funded by Iranian taxpayers and used by the IRGC as proxies for bombing civilians. Gulf states and Ukraine [are also targeted by IRGC warmongering](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/n3csy4vq). The Iranian population itself also wants a government chosen by and for the Iranian people instead of a religious dictatorship that kills and imprisons Iranians for "dressing immodestly," protesting or criticizing the government.

6
horatiowilliams May 6, 2026
Iranians overwhelmingly support the downfall of the regime. Try to find Iranian groups in social media. They want their country back after 47 years of brutal dictatorship. They want their families back.

Ah, so the first “60 day operation” is done. They will now kick off a “new, separate 60 day operation,” then since and repeat. Then once this is done (or not), a “new, different 60 day operation” in Cuba. I could see this cycle doing indefinitely. The Admin has a list of grievances on different countries.

Time magazine is normalizing this bullshit with these weak headlines. Speak the truth motherfuckers! This "administration" lies about literally everything, and the ceasefire was never real to begin with. Rubio is a spineless traitor who belongs in prison and all his assets should be seized and distributed among the citizens. Even if it's less and 1 cent per, at least this grifting scumbag or his family wouldn't get to use the money they stole from us.

I don't know the end game at this point. They are trying to slink away but there's no way they don't end up giving Iran something after bombing a bunch it and destroying infrastructure. I think they end up releasing funds, when more than Obama and the eus original deal. They've really painted themselves into a corner here. They are going to walk away with nothing but a return to normalcy including Iran having a nuclear program, something they only started back up a year after trump tore up the original deal.

1

Well, of Trump invades Canada, that should be the second time the Americans didn’t succeed.
0
Bakedfresh420 May 6, 2026 +1
But…200 years apart so not remotely the same president...and Canada is not Iran so not the same war. Very MAGA style response to something that has nothing to do with Canada, you go on and chest thump your nationalism and say you’re better than these “USA” chanting mouthbreathers. Two sides of the same coin.

It’s a new but also old ceasefire on the war that isn’t a war, over water that is not or is blockaded by the US or Iran that has no nukes (because you know they obliterated the site last year) but could hit the US at any minute with nukes, from a country which has been militarily destroyed but also not cease firing, under a regime that has no leaders but the leaders are negotiating. Do I have that right..

So what was accomplished?
1

"Epic Fury" ends. "Resumed Fury" starts tomorrow. We're either going to prevent Iran from nuclear weapons or we won't. If we don't and religeous radicals initate a nuclear exchange, we'll wish we had taken them out when we had a chance. But maybe we can rely on them being rational and responsible.
