I knew a kid who was breast fed till he was 12. For the record I’m very much serious about this. His mother was a og trust fund hippie and a pediatrician. He was her “3d world experiment” Dude was weird and was absolutely obsessed with milk.

There was a documentary on BBC several years ago a out parents who breastfed long term. Im.not.talking like 3-5 years because honestly I dont see anything wrong with that. But one lady was still breast feeding her two kids and they were like 9 and 11 and had names for each of the mom's brrasts... some weird ass people man.

mike_stifle Apr 6, 2026 +16
Why would you breastfeed a 5 year old, though?

_Kramerica_ Apr 6, 2026 +14
A 3-5 year old breastfeeding isn’t weird to you?! That’s weird af buddy
14

breast-feeding a kid who can un-button a blouse by themselves is a pathology
6
sychox51 6 days ago +3
The whole thing is weird. Sure a 3-5 year old breastfeeding is weird but so is drinking the milk of another species lmao. Imagine if when cows became toddlers we expected them to drink human milk? Tf?
3
Monkfich 6 days ago
Two different things mate. One, humans naturally wean off mothers’ milk. There’s lots of data out there as to why, but things like teeth coming in, and psychological needs for kids that have it for too long are a good two. This naturally means that from 6 months and up to 2 years are normal times to wean a baby. There are outliers, but they don’t make the norm suddenly strange. Drinking cow’s milk can seem weird if you think like that, but that is it - it’s your thoughts. Ultimately, we’re using animal products to keep us alive, and that is what we do with their meat, skin, and other things too. The dairy industry is cruel, but that is an entirely other discussion and not relevant to this. Is shearing a sheep weird to you, because you feel it’s like wearing someone else’s hair? Maybe it is, and I’m not trying to make you more concerned than you already are.
0
sychox51 6 days ago +4
Thats a good point and funny, ya that’s weird too. Wearing other animals hair. But even more weird is wearing other human hair. Lmao. Imagine a shirt made out of human hair or a jacket out of human skin. Were in Texas chainsaw territory

There's the woman in the hills that was asked," why do you still nurse your 11 year old son". She said "I tried to wean him, but he threw rocks at me!".

JimboDanks Apr 6, 2026 +25
Obsessed in the sense it was all he wanted to drink or talk about other than Star Trek. I have a moment burned in my brain. I was eating dinner with them and the mom asked if I wanted milk. I said I was good with water. Because even at like 11 I didn’t trust where that milk came from. Dude was angry and confused that I wasn’t going to drink milk.

Apparently I have no idea how b**** work. I thought they only produce milk for a short period after pregnancy?
5
ohdearitsrichardiii Apr 6, 2026 +23
B**** produce milk as long as you nurse regularly. The production slows down and stops when you stop nursing, although many mothers can squeeze out a drop years later

Exactly. It’s not even that big of a deal to breastfeed a toddler, it’s just rare (at least in the US). No need to flex here.

I'm referring to breastfeeding a child at 3 years old. That's it. It's not something that I would do, but it's her choice.

Nah that's traumatizing your child and should be illegal. Edit: never letting you creeps near my kids 👍

Yeah but it’s toddlerhood which is 2-3 not 4 years old I would be more concerned if she continues to breastfeed beyond toddlerhood.

Worked with Rumer a few years back and she's a total sweetheart, but maybe we don't need to know all this? One of my college friends who decided to start a family did a deep dive into info-gathering on all aspects of creating/raising a kid. I bowed out fairly quickly 'cos, eeeewwwww, lol! But, this Time magazine cover sparked a HUGE conversation about this whole subject that was hard to escape. I have always wondered how humiliated this kid was in his later years because of this photo... >[https://time.com/3450144/behind-the-cover-are-you-mom-enough/](https://time.com/3450144/behind-the-cover-are-you-mom-enough/)
17
been2thehi4 Apr 6, 2026 +5
The biggest issue I had with this article is the sentiment *are you mom enough*? As if breast feeding alone makes you an out of this world mother simply because your breasts are producing milk and your kid had a healthy latch from the get go. As a mom of 4, I had several road blocks, mental and physical, that made it a no for me to nurse. I never entertained it for the first two, gave it a small dose of maybe with my third, but didn’t try until my 4th. With the 4th kid, latching was impossible, we had all kinds of issues and she was failing to thrive while I battled mastitis twice in the first couple months. Eventually I switched to exclusively pumping which was an absolute chore and exhausting on its own, not including the 3 older kids and newborn needs on top of that. This *are you mom enough* for attached parenting is just putting guilt on women who don’t want a baby or kid hanging on them 24/7, their body being not their own for an even longer length of time than just pregnancy and newborn stage, is detrimental in my opinion. I really just don’t care for that phrase, *are you mom enough* because we do it this way and you don’t. Bleh. I personally wouldn’t have been able to go past the fist tooth coming in myself anyway had I been able to successfully nurse. Self made martyrdom and gatekeeping of motherhood rubs me the wrong way as a mom.
5
amylages Apr 6, 2026 -6
Why would he be humiliated?
-6
Difficult_Clerk_1273 Apr 6, 2026 +25
If you’re gonna post your private life for public viewing, you have to accept the criticism that inevitably follows. I don’t *want* to be a judgmental person, but I am and this is not okay. If they can speak in sentences, it’s time for weaning.
25
static-klingon Apr 6, 2026 -1
What are you judging this on other than personal preference? What exactly is not OK about a child nearly 3 years old breastfeeding? Is there some medical or moral reason that it’s time for weaning before they can speak?

baudtothebone Apr 6, 2026 +18
Breastfeeding at 3 is not super common but if it’s working for both then it’s ok. It’s really more about comfort and the mother daughter bond.
18
Trifang420 Apr 5, 2026 +14
Why isn't pumping a better option when kids get older? If their parents want their children to have breast milk.
14
swrrrrg Apr 6, 2026 +8
Why add the extra step? The only person who is making it an issue is you.

Because they get teeth, is the practical answer.

They get teeth at six months. The teeth isn’t the issue
13
peg-leg-andy Apr 6, 2026 +14
They get teeth before they turn one. The WHO recommends until two.

Completely normal to still breastfeed at this age. With child-led weaning anywhere from 18 months to 4 is typical. The oversharing is gross. When her kids are older they are going to want to have control over their own online presence. I have hated all the oversharing they’ve done regarding Bruce Willis too. I don’t know him but I can almost guarantee he would NOT want his entire family posting his decline online.

-12
iameveryoneelse Apr 6, 2026 -17
A decent set of teeth is what I’ve always felt was an appropriate time to wean. They have teeth? They can eat. Edit: to be clear, assholes, this falls smack in the middle of WHO recommendations of 12 to 24 months while beginning introduction of solids at 6 months. I’m not pulling it out of my ass.
-17
kllark_ashwood Apr 6, 2026 +4
Well, the world health organization would disagree.
4
iameveryoneelse Apr 6, 2026 -5
No. No it doesn’t. It says to start transitioning to solid food after 6 months and any time between 12 and 24 months is appropriate for weaning. “A full set of teeth” falls right in that window. Not to mention I’m not criticizing other people for what they think, just offering where we felt was a good time to wean…not sure why people are being dicks. Oh right, it’s Listnook and people can’t help themselves. Either way thanks for that insight.
-5
kllark_ashwood Apr 6, 2026 +3
You're saying a decent set of teeth. They say its fine to keep breastfeeding after age 2 as well but that 6 months is the absolute minimum.
3
iameveryoneelse Apr 6, 2026 -2
Uh huh. And I didn’t say shit about that. Just how we did it. Which they also say is perfectly fine. So…you agree with me? Teeth dont even fully come in until 2-3.
-2
TheAskewOne Apr 5, 2026 +3
That’s not an issue for breastfeeding though. Some babies are born with a few teeth, it’s rare but it happens. Babies know to not bite the nipple when they feed.
3
Asluckwouldnthaveit Apr 5, 2026 +32
I was more talking that a three year old can eat pizza at that point.
32
TheAskewOne Apr 5, 2026 +13
I mean yes, but breastfeeding till the kid is two or three is done in some places in the world and is really not that weird. Of course at that age there’s no question of breastfeeding exclusively, kids eat a normal diet with some maternal milk on top of it.
13
Asluckwouldnthaveit Apr 5, 2026 +16
I agree in places that lack proper nutrients it's recommended for even longer. Being rich and in the states and who she is, it's weird.
16
iameveryoneelse Apr 6, 2026 +6
lol tell that to my wife. My kids drew blood a few times.
6
Rileybiley Apr 6, 2026 +7
Trust me, they don’t always know. I got bit so many times from both my babies.Didn’t stop me though; I waited until they self weaned, both at around 2 years old.

How is her daughter going to feel in ten years when her friends at school find this video? Putting something like this on social media is fucked up. The way kids are used as props on social media is ridiculous.

3 years is not abnormal. Maybe in a modern western society but in the historical and global context, mothers can provide for years often until they have to provide for another.

Her name is Rumer so I guess ironically she is attempting to dispel all rumors about her parenting choices?
5

Yes, I don't know why she feels like she has to explain herself. It's her child and her decisions.

Shit is dumb. I'll have the burger, absolutely nothing on it.
6
JustABrokePoser Apr 5, 2026 -2
Yeah, I'm 35, my mom insists I do the same no matter how much I protest, I'm her child it's her decision/s. I mean what's the cut off, 17-18, is it when you cannot be defined as a child but a pre-teen so 11-12? Being weird and doing things out of the norm like this is something adults in rehab talk about their parents putting them through. It's an abstract decision intended as bait.
-2
dawne_breaker Apr 6, 2026 +1
While it may be perfectly natural to at least 5 years of age (because that’s what most apes do), more than 2 years isn’t socially acceptable. But doing beyond 3-4 in the modern society is kind of icky. After 5yo then it’s just weird.
1
dan516 Apr 6, 2026 -4
We need to normalise breastfeeding. She is doing her bit. Wish more women felt comfortable doing it for without backlash. If we need women to have more kids, it needs not having them conform to beauty standards or having to cover up.
-4
CommonAd7628 Apr 6, 2026 -1
