"Anika Nilles has been announced as RUSH’s drummer for their upcoming reunion tour, which will mark the band’s first shows in 11 years, and first concerts since the passing of the legendary Neil Peart in 2020. Rather than tap a well-known name to fill Peart’s shoes, RUSH opted for a relative unknown in Nilles, a 42-year-old German virtuoso who comes from a family of drummers."

"Unknown" certainly is relative, I've been following Anika Niiles for years. She's fantastic. I was hyped when she got announced for the tour.

I remember going to a Rush concert on the 30th anniversary tour, and during the set break a lot of 40 year old men asking me how I got into Rush (I was 18 and male) Anika is only 2 years older than I am, and the internet audience is going to have a field day with that. Expect things to get weird and awkward.

People are assholes. Lots of bands moved on after their members died. Queenryche's new singer is so close to Geoff Tate, I can barely tell the difference. Stone Temple Pilots has a good "new" singer. William DuVall isn't Layne Staley, but he sounds good and he's doing a good job for Alice in Chains (and giving them a much needed rhythm guitarist). Journey's new singer is fantastic. Linkin Park's new singer doesn't sound like Chester, but she respects his legacy and is a good fit. The list goes on and on. These bands are playing still, and that's all that matters. A world with Rush is better than a world without Rush.

I love rush so much and goodness do I miss Neil. This is a very cool move and I'm just happy to see them playing again. Angels and airwaves tour was the best show I've ever witnessed, decades later I'm still missing my vocal cords expended during the show. Totally worth it.

I believe they consider that (and the TH tribute) as Alex+Geddy performances, whereas this is the debut of the lineup they intend to tour with.

Semantics. I was at that show. Rush played.

Me too. They even called themselves Rush.

Arguably they performed at the Taylor Hawkins tribute show too

Ged's voice sounds pretty good! I live in Southern California which was for many years where the Rush tour ended. Last couple of tours, Ged's voice was completely shot and I just attributed it to age. It really turned me off seeing them this go-round, but watching videos from previous tours, I noticed how good Ged's voice sounded. Way better than the shows I saw! And of course it's because I saw them at the end of a grueling tour and Geddy's voice was blown out. So yeah we'd all love a loooong tour, but honestly, shorter is better for the performer's voice.

I saw the last Forum show. And the south park reunion too somehow.

Incredibly symbolic to return with the song Finding My Way, both lyrically and contextually as the first song on their first album It rips just as hard as the R30 intro - Anika smashed it

Not that I had any doubts they'd go about this the right way, but Anika Nilles fits right in with them.

I so wish the tickets weren't so insanely expensive for their upcoming tour, or I'd be there in a heartbeat. I still wish I didn't skip seeing them in the early 2010s for like $80.

Came here to write this. I've only seen them five times..not a lot by some standards..and would love to make it six, but I'll have to wait for the video release. $300 per.. damn too rich for my blood.

Yep, the cheapest tickets for me were also like $280, and that's for shit tier seating. I had a customer who's husband is also a massive Rush fan that paid $800 for 2 tickets. At this point there's not a band left I'd pay $400 for, unless Led Zeppelin do another show (they won't) or even less likely Roger and David work things out for a last Pink Floyd show. I love Rush, but man do I wish they would've handled the ticket situation better. My biggest hope is that either I find a j****** deal, or we get another tour down the line where the hype of having Rush back has died down so there will be less demand. But MAN Geddy somehow sounds so good and idk how long his voice is gonna hold on for!

I'm glad they returned to the stage with the new drummer (Anika) as Rush properly at a Canadian event

I look forward to seeing them in town this winter.

Mangini on drums would have been sweet. Anika will be great too, though.

Thought it would be cool to catch them in Berlin but 595€ a ticket makes that a hard pass for me there. Just checked the prices in Kraków and they are 535zł (~$144), so maybe I'll catch them there instead.

Didn't they say they weren't going to perform anymore without Neil?

runninhillbilly Mar 30, 2026 +7
People are allowed to change their minds. Axl and Slash were never going to play together again. The Gallaghers were never going to play as Oasis ever again. Sean Kinney said that he had no interest of playing Alice in Chains songs again after Layne Staley died. Geddy and Alex are very close. They didn't really want to disband in 2015 but they did because Neil didn't want to play anymore, and they felt their friendship was more important. Then he died, then they did a few guest performances (Taylor Hawkins tribute, South Park anniversary), and they continued to just jam together. They played together for 40 years. They're performers. It's hard to just stop doing that.

>People are allowed to change their minds As someone who never thought I'd get a chance to see them live after Neil died and they retired I am very glad they did change their minds as well! Got tickets for Manchester in the UK next year and I'm absolutely buzzing!

I never listened to Rush, and only have cursory knowledge, but I don't know why I thought Peart died in the 80s or something.
