Who would waste real bombs, when psychological warfare is as effective; the whole point was to flood the zone with fear, propaganda and confusion to achieve just that: feeling of helplessness, fatigue and apathia. Mission accomplished.

A little research would show that's not how Brits operate. Presumably all their researchers are dead on the Ukrainan front already and they burned all the history books to keep warm. Trying to terrorize Brits will work about as well as it does with Ukrainians and Finns. If they want to get the British on side, they need to find some cod. There must be some cod lurking around somewhere. Russia is cold and has sea access. We miss proper fish and chips after the cod ran out. Hitler didn't have much luck, and those were real bombs. I doubt Putin will fare any better. All it will do is piss us off.

I doubt Trump would ever do anything against Russia, there's been no proof of that at all, and he's never given them a specific (over the top as usual) threat, just things like "it would be a mistake of Russia". Everyone else gets the whole "we'll destroy them, in fact we destroyed them and hour ago, we won, everyone keeps asking how I keep winning" etc

Eudaimonics 2 days ago +21
Even without NATO, just having the resources of one of the larger economies in the world is going to tip the war in Ukraine’s favor.
21
Naxirian 2 days ago +19
The UK isn't just the 5th largest economy in the world, it also possesses cutting edge military equipment. The UK's armed forces might not be as large as they could be but if someone were to hit the home islands I suspect that would change real quickly. Brits like to b**** and moan about how things are going in the UK but you put the country on war footing against a common enemy and history has shown how resilient we are. Russia can't even break Ukraine, you add a pissed off UK to the mix and what are they going to do then? And for all the historical rivalry between us, I would bank on the French being right there with us, NATO or not.
19
ChipRockets 2 days ago +8
I've lived overseas for 10 years, but I'd be back on the first plane home to sign up. This is all bluster, and honestly just makes Putin even more of a laughing stock. The world knows he's not gonna touch the UK.

This headline could easily have also read "Dmitry Medvedev Spouts Bullshit, Again." Barely a week has gone by during the war without Medvedev threatening to bomb and/or nuke other countries for supplying Ukraine. At this point it's more news worthy when he isn't impotently threatening to glass a city... I get why they have him spouting off, but I really have to question the purpose. Everybody knows Medvedev's job at this point is to spew maximalist threats to try and generate uncertainty costs because that's what he always does; every time threats like these come out, it's from Medvedev's mouth. The fact he has that established pattern, one which has never been backed up, kind of seems like it degrades the efficacy.

How is this not a declaration of war?
177
Remad7 2 days ago +50
Because it came from Medvedev who doesn’t really hold any sort of official position in the Russian government.
50
LickingSmegma 2 days ago +22
He's the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia. It's just that the position was given to him so that he does absolutely nothing either useful or disruptive.
22
mtaw 2 days ago +12
It's also a position that didn't exist before; the deputy title was created just so Medvedev could feel a bit better about himself. He's still party chairman for United Russia too. Neither of which are very important positions though. The Russian government is a system of corruption and true power comes from the ability to dole out big gov't procurement contracts, to give good jobs to your allies, to give permits and such that friends can profit from etc. Medvedev doesn't really have any of that now. He was on the bench, hoping to be president again one day when Putin's done. When February 2022 rolled around he realized that his hopes of a comeback as president meant shedding his relatively-liberal image, so he immediately reinvented himself as a social-media attack dog against the West. Because, even if he's relatively powerless in Russia, he knows the ex-President title will get him attention for whatever he says in Western media.

32
SheogorathMyBeloved 2 days ago +34
This is exactly what I think about whenever someone tries to sabre-rattle at any nuclear countries. Sure, they might go down, but they're going down swinging and taking a good few of their attacker's cities with them. There's a reason MAD is a thing, as useless at it seems sometimes.
34
sumlime 2 days ago +11
It's kinda like what's the point. Does Russia really think anyone buys that threat.
11
Trololman72 2 days ago +6

6
Svennis79 2 days ago +5
If 'Russia'issued the bomb threats, then if anything actually happens, that would constitute an attack by russia, and trigger article 5...
5
SauronSauroff 2 days ago +6
I feel countries with functioning governments have a lot of red tape to deploy their military. Then with the games Russia plays like saying it wasn't an officially sanctioned attack, but a rogue faction might be enough to dissuade retaliation. Then if things do go through, what's the retaliation? Bomb cities back? A full blown invasion, or kidnapping the guy responsible? I don't think anyone wants a war between 2 nuclear countries. But I know nothing, so will see what happens, or if my thoughts get picked apart by someone.

Yes because Putin is doing so well with Ukraine. He has killed off another generation of men, condemned his own country to population obsolescence, hollowed out their economy, and depleted their military resources and exposed their ineffectual command structure and low morale. Don’t get me wrong, a cornered rat is still dangerous but can be swiftly dealt with by even a modestly organized alliance. May Putin dream of his own inadequacies in the face of such moral giants as Alexei Navalny. RIP. I hope for a brighter future for Russians and Ukrainians alike. They deserve a break. 💪🏼🌍🖖🏼

19
jackgrafter 2 days ago +13
Would America? I doubt it.
13
Red_Dox 2 days ago +8
I would doubt that too. But Russia can't even deal with Ukraine "on its own" [air quotes because obviously Ukraine gets healthy donations to keep resisiting. On the other side of the coin, Russia gets also helped by several countries including extra troops to throw into the meatgrinder]. So take a educated guess what it means when the rest of NATO (minus USA) actually gets involved with boots on the ground and planes in the air. Sure, it comes down to Nuke-scare in the end, but NATO still has also some nukes without the US help.

Even if Trump decides not to back the rest of NATO, there's a lot that the rest of them can do together. That's not likely to happen.

"The list of European facilities which make drones & other equipment is a list of potential targets for the Russian armed forces," he said. They have been claiming they are at war with all of NATO for 4 years now, since their 3 day operation failed. So are they saying that for 4 years of war they haven't even bothered to make NATO's drone producing facilities as potential targets?

As someone from Reading, being the only one omitted in the headline from a list of four feels very cliche. What is this? The selection committee for the next city? Im looking at you, St Davids.

Lol if they bomb the UK then they, as well as France and Poland, would instantly join Ukraine which would be devastating for Russia. Such a bluff

An attack on the UK whether officially by the Russian government or thugs hired by them takes away the UK's excuse to not roll up their sleeves and they might be the only ones.
