Bomb threats are what terrorists do.

HalcyoNighT Apr 17, 2026 +996
At least they are nice enough to announce the bombings in advance
996
uranusisdoomed Apr 17, 2026 +427
And nice of them to include Leicester. It will probably be an improvement

Obligatory "nuclear bomb hit Birmingham and caused £37 of damage" joke
302
ExampleMediocre6716 Apr 17, 2026 +136
Isnt the punchline £37 of improvements?
136
MrGlayden Apr 17, 2026 +34
It's up to £37 because of inflation

No change there then.

Either works, I've just always figured that if you were measuring improvements it would be a hell of a lot more than 37 quid!
15

I’m just happy to be included

We just sent Ukraine 120,000 drones I think we should have sent them 240,000.
51
EnoughPrimary6700 Apr 17, 2026 +33
Who would waste real bombs, when psychological warfare is as effective; the whole point was to flood the zone with fear, propaganda and confusion to achieve just that: feeling of helplessness, fatigue and apathia. Mission accomplished.

A tip from a Fin. Be ready for everything, but don't pay attention to Russia's fearmongering.

A little research would show that's not how Brits operate. Presumably all their researchers are dead on the Ukrainan front already and they burned all the history books to keep warm. Trying to terrorize Brits will work about as well as it does with Ukrainians and Finns. If they want to get the British on side, they need to find some cod. There must be some cod lurking around somewhere. Russia is cold and has sea access. We miss proper fish and chips after the cod ran out. Hitler didn't have much luck, and those were real bombs. I doubt Putin will fare any better. All it will do is piss us off.

Wouldn't be the first time Russia announced a false flag bombing in advance by mistake.
66

Trump left/degraded NATO just in time to allow this attack to occur without US retaliation. 🤔
57
crpssurvivor1210 Apr 17, 2026 +44
There needs to be 2/3 vote in both house and senate for the US to leave NATO. This was one of the last bills put forth by Marco Rubio
44
KatsumotoKurier Apr 17, 2026 +40
Good to know that this is there, but let’s not forget that Trump has now become infamous for overriding and brazenly disregarding guard rails with virtually no pushback.

does not matter: under article 5 countries have no obligation to send troops or weapons - they have to send what they think is needed. If the USA thinks clown cars are needed they can send them

I doubt Trump would ever do anything against Russia, there's been no proof of that at all, and he's never given them a specific (over the top as usual) threat, just things like "it would be a mistake of Russia". Everyone else gets the whole "we'll destroy them, in fact we destroyed them and hour ago, we won, everyone keeps asking how I keep winning" etc

188
fatalystic Apr 17, 2026 +102
Send them another billion then!
102
Black_Moons Apr 17, 2026 +68
It was 4 threats. It should be an additional 4 billion sent to Ukraine... And not from the interest of seized funds this time. Pay it down with the principle... for the principle of it all.
68
Acceptable-Guest-166 Apr 17, 2026 +77
This is almost certainly a response and attempt to dissuade further, similar behaviour from the UK and it's allies.

I think this should motivate them to do more. After they send all frozen funds to Ukraine then Russia won't have anything else to threaten them about.

Realistically speaking space research. Leicester uni and the national space centre are at the forefront of it. The uni is heavily involved in exploration of Mars. They helped develop the first Mars rover in 2003, and the European Space Agency's one due to launch in 2028.

Isn't the UK part of nato? Does putin really believe that even if the united states won't help, all the others and then some wouldn't come?
68
lollypatrolly Apr 17, 2026 +57
> Does putin really believe that even if the united states won't help, all the others and then some wouldn't come? No. While he's delusional on some issues, he's perfectly aware and have admitted that he can't match NATO, be it with or without the US. This is just more bluster.
57
MindAvailable4876 Apr 17, 2026 +4
Medvedev is known for throwing veil threats. I remember him threating EU back in 2024, saying we’ll spend the christmas holidays in nuclear shelters lol
4
Eudaimonics Apr 17, 2026 +21
Even without NATO, just having the resources of one of the larger economies in the world is going to tip the war in Ukraine’s favor.
21
Naxirian Apr 17, 2026 +19
The UK isn't just the 5th largest economy in the world, it also possesses cutting edge military equipment. The UK's armed forces might not be as large as they could be but if someone were to hit the home islands I suspect that would change real quickly. Brits like to b**** and moan about how things are going in the UK but you put the country on war footing against a common enemy and history has shown how resilient we are. Russia can't even break Ukraine, you add a pissed off UK to the mix and what are they going to do then? And for all the historical rivalry between us, I would bank on the French being right there with us, NATO or not.
19
ChipRockets Apr 17, 2026 +8
I've lived overseas for 10 years, but I'd be back on the first plane home to sign up. This is all bluster, and honestly just makes Putin even more of a laughing stock. The world knows he's not gonna touch the UK.

Mildenhall, US airbase and there is a sizeable drone factory there. It’s supplying the Ukraine and they aren’t happy about that.
70
Notorius_Womble Apr 17, 2026 +33
They announced last year that they're testing those drones next to our very rural village. Nobody knows we're here but now Russia wants to bomb us. Brilliant 🤣
33
JeffSergeant Apr 17, 2026 +17
I grew up in a tiny hamlet that happened to be next to an airforce base that hosted Thor IRBMs. they were long gone by they time I was born but I always wondered if the Russians had updated their targeting packages.
17
Vladimir_Chrootin Apr 17, 2026 +12
There was a map in the Russian media a few years back that had Chatham as a target, because of the navy base there ... that closed permanently in 1983.

This headline could easily have also read "Dmitry Medvedev Spouts Bullshit, Again." Barely a week has gone by during the war without Medvedev threatening to bomb and/or nuke other countries for supplying Ukraine. At this point it's more news worthy when he isn't impotently threatening to glass a city... I get why they have him spouting off, but I really have to question the purpose. Everybody knows Medvedev's job at this point is to spew maximalist threats to try and generate uncertainty costs because that's what he always does; every time threats like these come out, it's from Medvedev's mouth. The fact he has that established pattern, one which has never been backed up, kind of seems like it degrades the efficacy.

How is this not a declaration of war?
177
Remad7 Apr 17, 2026 +50
Because it came from Medvedev who doesn’t really hold any sort of official position in the Russian government.
50
LickingSmegma Apr 17, 2026 +22
He's the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia. It's just that the position was given to him so that he does absolutely nothing either useful or disruptive.
22
mtaw Apr 17, 2026 +12
It's also a position that didn't exist before; the deputy title was created just so Medvedev could feel a bit better about himself. He's still party chairman for United Russia too. Neither of which are very important positions though. The Russian government is a system of corruption and true power comes from the ability to dole out big gov't procurement contracts, to give good jobs to your allies, to give permits and such that friends can profit from etc. Medvedev doesn't really have any of that now. He was on the bench, hoping to be president again one day when Putin's done. When February 2022 rolled around he realized that his hopes of a comeback as president meant shedding his relatively-liberal image, so he immediately reinvented himself as a social-media attack dog against the West. Because, even if he's relatively powerless in Russia, he knows the ex-President title will get him attention for whatever he says in Western media.
12
gnutrino Apr 17, 2026 +7
His official position is chief sabre-rattler

35
sumlime Apr 17, 2026 +32
And nukes, if it came to that?.
32
SheogorathMyBeloved Apr 17, 2026 +34
This is exactly what I think about whenever someone tries to sabre-rattle at any nuclear countries. Sure, they might go down, but they're going down swinging and taking a good few of their attacker's cities with them. There's a reason MAD is a thing, as useless at it seems sometimes.
34
sumlime Apr 17, 2026 +11
It's kinda like what's the point. Does Russia really think anyone buys that threat.
11
Trololman72 Apr 17, 2026 +6
It's just Medvedev saying insane shit to prove to Putin that he's loyal to him. He does that all the time. It can be disregarded entirely.
6
Svennis79 Apr 17, 2026 +5
If 'Russia'issued the bomb threats, then if anything actually happens, that would constitute an attack by russia, and trigger article 5...
5
SauronSauroff Apr 17, 2026 +6
I feel countries with functioning governments have a lot of red tape to deploy their military. Then with the games Russia plays like saying it wasn't an officially sanctioned attack, but a rogue faction might be enough to dissuade retaliation. Then if things do go through, what's the retaliation? Bomb cities back? A full blown invasion, or kidnapping the guy responsible? I don't think anyone wants a war between 2 nuclear countries. But I know nothing, so will see what happens, or if my thoughts get picked apart by someone.

Yes because Putin is doing so well with Ukraine. He has killed off another generation of men, condemned his own country to population obsolescence, hollowed out their economy, and depleted their military resources and exposed their ineffectual command structure and low morale. Don’t get me wrong, a cornered rat is still dangerous but can be swiftly dealt with by even a modestly organized alliance. May Putin dream of his own inadequacies in the face of such moral giants as Alexei Navalny. RIP. I hope for a brighter future for Russians and Ukrainians alike. They deserve a break. 💪🏼🌍🖖🏼
63

13
MommersHeart Apr 17, 2026 +24

12
Pheeshfud Apr 17, 2026 +30
Do it. Open up a new front on the war you are already losing. Even if none of Europe or NATO join in Russia would be fucked.
30
BritishAnimator Apr 17, 2026 +19
If Russia attacked the UK, NATO would be obligated to join in. That's the whole point of it. Of course Russia would try and spin it that the UK attacked them first.
19
jackgrafter Apr 17, 2026 +13
Would America? I doubt it.
13
Red_Dox Apr 17, 2026 +8
I would doubt that too. But Russia can't even deal with Ukraine "on its own" [air quotes because obviously Ukraine gets healthy donations to keep resisiting. On the other side of the coin, Russia gets also helped by several countries including extra troops to throw into the meatgrinder]. So take a educated guess what it means when the rest of NATO (minus USA) actually gets involved with boots on the ground and planes in the air. Sure, it comes down to Nuke-scare in the end, but NATO still has also some nukes without the US help.

Putin and Medvedev. Weak dogs. Putin is probably the most paranoid person on the planet right now. Country is going to shit at a rapid rate and the wolves in his country are circling.

Well now I am definitely donating to the Ukraine drone fund, f*** you Putin.

> London, Leicester, Reading and Suffolk Can we negotiate here? We counteroffer with Reading, Slough, Hull, Walsall and we’ll throw in a targeted strike on Salford.

wetpigeon Apr 17, 2026 +10
Not Hull please, city center has been a building site for years already, old BHS building looks like it was already bombed

karateninjazombie Apr 17, 2026 +6
Bombing it again would count as gentrification

>four UK locations including London, Suffolk and Leicester That's real shade to whatever the fourth location is (Reading) (Is it because they know Listnookors don't like reading?)

Wall-SWE Apr 17, 2026 +26
UK should openly issue similar threats for sensitive locations in Russia. This way they can give intel to Ukraine.
26
jackgrafter Apr 17, 2026 +10
They can do that without it having to be open.
10
Longjumping_Win_7770 Apr 17, 2026 +5
Reading and Leicester?  Aren't wars suppose to harm your enemy not make them better?
5
Twarper Apr 17, 2026 +4
Russia sure has an obsession with England lately. All threats are mostly in their general direction.

I think they are fully aware that any bombing of NATO countries will invoke the 5th and the European army will mop up Russia back to Moscow and take Siberia as consolation prize.
6
susrev88 Apr 17, 2026 +5
yeah right. london is full of russians and russian money. this is just obligatory response, they have to show something for the domestic audiences.
5
princemousey1 Apr 17, 2026 +6
I think everyone knew the Russian invasion of Ukraine was a precursor to the rest of Europe.

Suffolk here. We are ready to be put out of our misery.

Johnny-Unitas Apr 17, 2026 +7
Even if Trump decides not to back the rest of NATO, there's a lot that the rest of them can do together. That's not likely to happen.
7
lucygoosey38 Apr 17, 2026 +8
They can barely fight against Ukraine. Nukes are their only threat. And the uk is nato so just talk unless they want MAD
8
DecoupledPilot Apr 17, 2026 +7
Guess what happens if they do that.

"The list of European facilities which make drones & other equipment is a list of potential targets for the Russian armed forces," he said. They have been claiming they are at war with all of NATO for 4 years now, since their 3 day operation failed. So are they saying that for 4 years of war they haven't even bothered to make NATO's drone producing facilities as potential targets?

AnomalyNexus Apr 17, 2026 +6
>Europeans should "not only clearly understand the true causes of the threats to their security Shitty leaders invading other countries in wars of choice?

wetpigeon Apr 17, 2026 +3
Couldn't fit the fourth location in the headline eh? Can't be somewhere important
3
pyeeater Apr 17, 2026 +4
I think it was Llanfairpwllgwyngyll.
4
Dicklickshitballs Apr 17, 2026 +3
Russia forgets they will also be targeted as well. Without nukes they are a paper tiger
3
MoneyAd5007 Apr 17, 2026 +3
As someone from Reading, being the only one omitted in the headline from a list of four feels very cliche. What is this? The selection committee for the next city? Im looking at you, St Davids.
3
Known_Limit_6904 Apr 17, 2026 +3
And Moscow vanishing in a blink of an eye will follow 👍
3
yosisoy Apr 17, 2026 +3
Is this a literal act of war against the UK?
3
MudHammock Apr 17, 2026 +3
Lol if they bomb the UK then they, as well as France and Poland, would instantly join Ukraine which would be devastating for Russia. Such a bluff
3
Rogue44678 Apr 17, 2026 +3
More bullshit from RuZZia, NATO - article 5 = RuZZia turned to glass...
3
SkinnedIt Apr 17, 2026 +3
An attack on the UK whether officially by the Russian government or thugs hired by them takes away the UK's excuse to not roll up their sleeves and they might be the only ones.
3
BaneOfMyLife Apr 17, 2026 +3
Putin coming to terms with the fact he can’t win his war on Ukraine
