Not just Russia he’s compromised by Israel as well. Where one would think Trump would be livid at being forced into behaving in other countries interest they likely told him he can have the ancillary benefit of grifting the people and manipulating the stock market to enrich himself and prob people within their own governments who also want to reap the benefits of insider knowledge that affects the markets.

It’s very different: Israel is an ally. Netanyahu has to convince Trump. Sometimes he gets what he wants, but most of the time, no.
russia elected Trump twice, so Putin just says what he wants and Trump does without questioning. [Don’t forget that Putin chose Witkoff personally.](https://newsukraine.rbc.ua/news/putin-effectively-chose-witkoff-as-us-negotiator-1766281557.html)

And China.
The US has just burnt trough a HUGE chunk of their missile stockpile of some systems. Will take years to replenish at best. And that is after the house and senate actually decide to order more shit, which could delay it even further.
If I was Xi and actually decided to make a move on TW in the coming year. A depleted US stockpile of crucial weapons is rather high on the wish list.

Ukraine isn't able to do enough damage to keep the ports down for more than a week, so the ports still work and ship out oil anyway. But Ukraine's strikes still help because while they're fixing stuff, some parts of the port ship less or slower, which hits their profits. Though with oil prices what they are, Russia is still making more money than before the US war in Iran.

China has absolutely no real desire to "take Taiwan" at least not in the military invasion sense we've come to get used to. China has been thriving for 30+ years by being an absolute reliable, no questions asked, business partner. They supply both Russia and Ukraine with drone technology, they sell to whomever buys, they do what they do reliably and with no prejudice. What would they sacrifice that for? A tiny island? TSMC? China is already investing massively in trying to make their own chips within the next 10 years or so. They don't have election cycles, they make long term plans, stick to it, and achieve it. I totally believe they can make their own nano lithography semiconductors within 10 years, if they do then Taiwan is useless.
There is never going to be a military invasion of Taiwan, they literally have nothing to gain from that.
10
triopsate16 hr ago
+1
Well yes and no. I can say that China prefers to keep the current status quo with Taiwan as it is because like you said it's not good business to go sending an actual invasion at Taiwan and plus China is confident that they basically get Taiwan to integrate itself back through economic and political methods given enough time.
That said, if Taiwan decides to break the status quo and declare itself independent then China would probably have to move on Taiwan militarily just because of how important Taiwan is strategically. If Taiwan declares independence then they would almost definitely fall under the US as an ally which would allow the US to complete the [first island chain strategy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_chain_strategy) that it's been working towards for decades now and basically give the US full control of China's ports. That would be basically mean China would have to defer itself to the US or face basically a permanent strait of hormuz situation but worse and there's basically no way in hell China would accept that.
1
vmdvr1 day ago
+9
China wants Taiwan, sure. But they consider themselves to be the one real and current incarnation of a ~5000 year civilization (which is, BTW, the reason they want Taiwan) but all of that means they feel they can afford to be patient. If it takes another 5, 10, 50, or even 100 years, what's that compared to thousands of years of history?
The real reason they're doing almost nothing is that, to quote Napoleon, you never interrupt your enemies when they are making a mistake. And China's geopolitical rivals have made SO MANY mistakes in the last 15-20 years.

China is cool with Russia becoming a failed state so they can take back Siberia, either a land grab or to manage their oil & mineral industries like they do in Africa. They fought over the border as recently as 1967, with Russia taking land in that conflict, it'll be very ironic when they say that area is traditionally Chinese as a justification.

The price of oil is below that and Russia can't export much because Ukraine is destroying their oil export infrastructure. Russia will be going bankrupt soon. Even Putin was forced to admit that Russia is in a severe economic crisis. Putin would never admit such a thing unless it was already obvious to everyone in Russia.
[Putin finally admits Russia’s economy is in trouble and grasps for answers, after warnings about a financial crisis have been piling up](https://fortune.com/2026/04/18/russia-economy-contraction-vladimir-putin-financial-crisis-warnings-iran-ukraine-war-drones-oil-exports/)
