Nuclear tsunamis. Remember how they opened with that? Or threatening north European countries that it would immediately regret it if they joined NATO. They joined NATO and there was no response.

Medvedev threatens Ukraine with nuclear tsunamis almost every single day, but it’s clearly a clinical case of vodka-induced delirium

We've already had to deal with (and laugh) at their claim that they can sink the entire UK with a sarmat missile. This is nothing new. Putin raised the nuclear spectre at the start of the Ukraine war to try and scare countries off supporting Ukraine.
3
TV-Tommy 5 days ago +1
Yes! US, UK, France & Germany are all worried about Russian tanks invading (get real!). Poland is VERY tired of this blabber...for good reason!
1
daniel_22sss 4 days ago +1
Putin literally just gave Ukraine ultimatum to leave Donbass in 2 months.
1
GAdvance 5 days ago +32
Been number one nuke threat over here in the UK, Putin being hypocritical scum should not be a surprise.

Putin is evil but not insane like Trump. Trump the toddler will bring out the Football if the doesn't get his way.
9
FanofBobRooney 5 days ago +1
Putin is definitely insane, you don’t throw your own people into a meat grinder just to r***, murder and pillage another nation unless you’re batshit crazy. Trump is just so ridiculously incompetent he makes all the other dictators look good by comparison. They were at least qualified for their roles as evil despots, Trump was a trust fund baby whose greatest personal achievement was hosting a reality show.

Honestly, if Russia could have just sat peacefully over the last 15 years, continued to do extremely profitable business with Europe and just waited for the right moment, they would have been positioned extremely well to be a viable alternative to the US. It would have been the biggest “told you so” moment (kind of like France) and could have paved the way for integrating with the rest of Europe on an equal basis. But they had to go for war of aggression…
3
RonstoppableRon 5 days ago +1
Russia has half the population of the US and hardly has a middle class, so nowhere close to the same consumer base; it would never be a viable alternative to the US, economically speaking.
1
NAG3LT 5 days ago +1
It's now more worrying when they pause the regular nuclear threats.

#Out of 200 countries, Russia should be the last one to lecture after what they've done in Ukraine.

Or they are in the best position to talk about this: it doesn't f****** work, so stop trying.

That advice only works if they themselves have learned and stopped trying. They haven't.

Russia will happily parade an issue when they happen to be on the side of right and just and US is providing them plenty of fodder. Just like Trump declared he must topple the Iranian regime to help the poor oppressed people. Both are just opportunistically virtue signalling.

Trump voted with Russia's position on the war at the UN last year. Not an abstention, but a vote in favour of Putin [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United\_Nations\_General\_Assembly\_Resolution\_ES-11/7](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_General_Assembly_Resolution_ES-11/7) Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Hungary, Israel, Mali, Marshall Islands, Nicaragua, Niger, North Korea, Palau, Russia, Sudan, United States

You have to treat Russian comments and motives like an electron: you can know where it is, but not what it's doing there; you can know what it's doing, but not who it's doing it for; or you can know where it's doing it, and who it's doing it for, but you don't know what it is.
28
Fischerking92 5 days ago +5
Hmmm, that is an interesting way of teaching quantum physics to politics majors. "Think of an electron like you think of a comment from the Kremlin."
5

No, it's not that they want to monopolize it. They want to weaken accusations against themselves by making the same accusation back.

**The Russians are reaching the pinnacle of morality.** The same disgusting people who murdered civilians in Busha. The same people who executed hundreds at the Mariupol theater. The same people who kidnapped Ukrainian children and made them disappear in the darkness. The same people who kill Ukrainian civilians daily. Because the majority of Russians support your criminal leader, you are also guilty of war crimes. The day of reckoning is upon you.
41
thickwhiteduck 5 days ago -10
You could easily substitute Russia for US/Israel, and Ukraine for Gaza/Palestine/Lebanon (etc)
-10
AdPure5645 5 days ago +12
No you could'nt. Ukraine was not an aggressor in any respect. Middle East and Israel have been at each other's throats for tens of years.
12
AnotherGerolf 5 days ago +5
You can't. If you don't understand that, then you are dumb. Explanation for dummies: Ukraine did not fund terrorists that attack neighbouring countries for years and did not fund groups that launch missiles weekly into Russia for a decade. Ukraine does not have religious zealots in control of the government and Ukraine does not have any regional ambitions at all.
5
pitshands 5 days ago +12

The issue is that Iran recognised they agreed to an end to hostilities in the 12 day war to easily. As it just allowed the US to regroup and strike again. So they want the message to really arrive by drawing it out. Some reports say they want to drag it till the election in November.
8
SeltsamerNordlander 5 days ago +3
Indeed. They will drag it as long as it takes to get meaningful, material concessions. There's no other logical path for them.
3

Especially since Putin told him to.

Someday insider trading from market manipulation will be investigated. TACO is good for Wall Street.
2
smltor 5 days ago +1
I feel like the timing on the recent Trump tirades is outside the normal windows for market manipulation and he might actually be rattled on this one. I'm sure the pilot was scary for him, if Iran had got the guy first that could have been horrific for his political stuff, especially after saying he likes guys that don't get captured.

3
ByWillAlone 5 days ago +3
Ultimatums are guaranteed to make things worse. Russia knows this. Russia also knows that telling trump he's doing it wrong will only cause him to double down to prove his rightness. Russia knows this also. Since Russia ultimately wants the outcome to be a more crippled US, this is a great play for them, they are playing trump like a fiddle and they'll achieve exactly what they want: a more crippled and less respected US in the end. It's just unfortunate that the entire administration and half of America are too stupid to see it happening right before their eyes.

It's OK Russia, no one believes in the ultimatums. The entire power of ultimatums is that it forces the other party to act or else something bad happens. If they can be ignored because you go back to negotiating or move the deadline to another date, then it's not a real ultimatum.
1

Always remember: Russia never wanted to prove to its people they are better than the United States - it was always that the United States was just as bad. Russia is simultaneously feeding intel to Iran about Israeli military and power sites, while also pushing the US to be more aggressive with Iran. Manipulating Trump seems to be pretty easy.
