Not just a popular, but the LAST messaging app. The internet has been shut off completely in St. Petersburg and Moscow for the last 3 weeks now. Russia is going full North Korea at this point.

This is just false. I live in St. Petersburg and I have perfect access to the internet. YouTube, discord, telegram, twitch - everything works fast with proxy, the only difference is that I don’t get any ads - was traveling to Japan and Turkey recently and was stunned how much ads you guys have now. Anyway, saying “Russia is going full North Korea” is a wishful thinking. Russian government flexes they have capabilities to cut off western internet completely, but they are yet to do it and every website they “blocked” is easily accessible as of today.

i mean that's not the point though. i'm from china. I can access all the sites i want too. It doesnt' mean that china has an open internet lmao. It just means there are ways around it.

YouTube creators gotta get compensated for their work somehow. So it mainly comes from ads and subscription money

This is bullshit, don't eat this yellow press c***. Internet in Moscow works just fine most of time, but there is some limitations specifically then we get attacks by Ukraine drones. Telegram being blocked with variable success rate, for now it is working for messaging, yesterday it was mostly dead. Frustration is there, but it's more about inconvenience and need to switch to local messaging service. I personally don't want to use government pushed messenger, but a lot of people have no issues with it.
