pretty sure pokrovsk has long been captured by them? I mean this was confirmed by deepstate

Pokrovsk was captured in dec 2025, although fighting continues on it's outskirts. The article mention that ruzzia wants to capture "some" of the remaining settlements in by the end of April, so more than one, and the article/Zelensky count Pokrovsk there, despite being basically captured. >Russia wants to capture some of the last Ukrainian-held strongholds in eastern Donetsk Oblast, including Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, and Pokrovsk, by the end of April, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on April 8 at a closed-door briefing. Aside of Pokrovsk, it doesn't seem possible for ruzzia to capture a whole settlement by the end of April, let alone "some".

What about Kupyansk? According to deepstate it seems like somewhat Russians have taken its control but it's almost entirely surrounded by Ukrainian control. Isn't that city at risk to be fully overtaken by Russia?

Captured in what sense? Entire city is in the Ukrainian kill zone.

I bet that they want their war to not be a total unmitigated disaster too where they send wounded men to be blown up by drones or an army so corrupt that they torture their own men if they don't give their commanding officer their pay.
