Wonder how much much of the Iranian nuclear program will also magically be smuggled out

Russia has already left most of the Nuclear treaties with the US if that was their gameplan why not just give Iran a nuke of their own on some Oreshinik missiles. you only need low single digit counts to have MAD against Israel.
47
YinzerKermyApr 2, 2026
+13
I think you underestimate how little any country wants to give another nukes. Sure you might like Iran today but tomorrow who knows. If you give them MAD that also can apply against you. You need extreme levels of trust.
13
BionicBreakApr 2, 2026
+21
Because Russia would lose leverage to ensure Iran's cooperation with their fight in Ukraine. They still don't really trust each other.
Iran certainly doesn't trust Russia because it refuses to let the Russians build the complicated parts of the Shahed drone.
21
firenamedgabeApr 2, 2026

And that’s completely ignoring the fact if they gave Iran nukes who’s going to control them in a year, or five years. The government is in tatters and surely headed towards infighting, so god knows who would wind up with the nukes in the long run.
12
BionicBreakApr 2, 2026

Also true. I believe the game the Russians are playing is that they're going to help, up to a point, and then stop helping when they have what they want and ensure that Iran doesn't get much further.

Because the minute the NPT ends, the world has nukes. There is no giving nukes to 1 country. Every tinpot dictator will have then within a decade. And at that point it's a matter of when, not if MAD is triggered, and politics degrades into brinksmanship of who is willing to bait MAD the most before caving.

It has only been about 40 years since the time when Iran trained and funded the mujahideen who were cutting the throats of Russian soldiers simply because Afghans were Muslims. Iran had no other interests or reasons to do that. There is a cultural abyss between Iran and Russia that will not disappear for at least the next 100 years. Today they are partners (not allies!) because it is beneficial for them, but what happens tomorrow is a different story.

Still better than hitting an active nuclear plant. Not only will it make the Iranian civilian population suffer it will cause a huge ecological disaster.
It would also give Russia the chance to threaten Ukranian nuclear plants again.

Most likely all of it, this was Russia's proposal to Obama after Russia invaded Crimea - Russia would take custody of Iran's nuclear stockpile and manage/dispose of it in exchange for removing Iranian sanctions. Thankfully Obama was smart enough to see right through that and know what the plan was, for Russia to store the nuclear material only until Iran needed it and they would fly it back.

20
andruszkoApr 2, 2026

Nuclear power plants take something like 5-10% enriched uranium.
When we talk nuclear capacity for war/nukes, that enrichment level needs to be 90%.
Iran has enough uranium to make about 11 nukes, they claimed, but the enrichment level is only 60% so far. They're obviously working towards it based on the level, but it could have taken them anywhere from a couple months to a couple years to achieve that next 30% enrichment.
27
F4ntasticPantsApr 2, 2026
+27
iirc going from 60% to weapons grade is magnitudes easier than going from 5-10% to 60%.
That's why everyone is so worried about them getting nukes, that last stretch is the easiest one.

What are you watching? We all literally watched these guys get attacked over and over again. But you somehow seem to be worried about the victims of the attacks being able to defend themselves and not of the aggressors ability to wage wars. I don’t even think this is the result of brainwashing. It’s just you either picking sides, or purposefully spreading lies.
So what I want to know is: what compels you to do so? And what horse you think you have in this race? I don’t care about what they do in Iran. I dont care about what they do in China. I don’t care about any of it. I’m much more concerned with collapsing bridges, economic collapse, societal collapse. Most Americans share the SAME SENTIMENT.

I don’t think Israel should have them either. I’m against Israeli expansion into Lebanon and the atrocities they commit in Gaza. I’m still worried about Iranian nukes.
Unfortunately it’s much harder to disarm nuclear states (see: north korea)
4
TheSeptimiusSeverusApr 2, 2026

It's much easier to stop handing billions in cash and weapons to the nuclear state to carry out atrocities in Lebanon, Iran and Gaza than disarming them of nukes.

guilty as charged, yea. Sometimes, I like to know where the other person is coming from and if they have actual sincere or only charged/biased views.
I think that that ship has sailed, personally. Psycho Mullahs are already capable of setting off many dirty bombs. I doubt they won't end up testing a nuke in coming years - unless their demands like dropping all sanctions are met.

Israel does not preach death to their neighbors or actively seek to control the entire Middle East through terrorist proxies. Also after a few decades of having them without using them, people have gotten less worried.
1
TheSeptimiusSeverusApr 2, 2026
lol yea, okay bud.
Nobody was actually worried about Iran either. Everything was fine. Except the religious nutjobs in Israel kept preaching death to their neighbours.
I suppose you're one of those who thinks Settlers are entitled to all the land and houses they continue to steal. How it's their right to slaughter and covet the wife of their neighbours if they are not Chosen.
You might want to learn what kind of hateful religious and racial bigotry is taught in Israeli schools and institutions before you go pretending Iran is/was some unique and special evil/worry in the region.

>Nobody was actually worried about Iran either. Everything was fine.
Yes, that's why they are considered a state sponsor of terrorism and their proxies in Yemen were subject to a coalition of the Gulf States and US.
3
PayZealousideal8892Apr 2, 2026
+5
Why most Gulf countries are encouraging US to keep attacking Iran? Why do many Western countries say it's unacceptable for Iran to gain nukes.
Because Iran is countinously funding different terrorist groups that directly attack and cause problems for these countries. What would happen if Iran developed nukes and gave one to Hezbollah or Houthis? Who would be responsible if terrorist organization nuked Israel for example? There is no MAD considerations if one side is terrorists.
Also Iran regime is one of the most horrible regimes in the world. You think ICE agents are bad? Irans regime and IRGC are 10000 times worse to their own dissidents. But nobody would actually intervene if that was the only problem, countries intervene because Iran's foreign policy is directly threatening and causing damage to other countries.

Obama deserves credit for getting the best possible deal he could without military intervention, but that deal was still a steaming pile of c***. Just setting aside that it would have automatically expired in 2025 anyways it still allowed Iran to refuse inspection of any site they wanted then gave them 24 days before IAEA inspectors were allowed to force their way in. Plenty of time to move nuclear material around.

When you consider that the Manhattan project went from limited science to multiple power plants and nuclear tests in 3 years, it's really amazing.
