Strange economic strategy: burn out the labor force before the economy collapses.

This is actually step 4. It goes:
* Step 1: Be in a demographic death spiral
* Step 2: Throw your young men into a meat grinder
* Step 3: Young men leave
* Step 4: Work who is left until, see steps 2&3
143

Step 2 is somewhat incorrect. The average of those fighting in the war is \~41yo IIRC (between both sides). The truly young have been mostly sheltered from it. Mostly.

Part of the whole deal with democracy is that the electorate must stay informed and actually vote for their best interests.
This is an issue when most people who vote get their "news" from a combination of tiktok videos and headlines, and a huge portion of people don't even bother doing that much.
73
SomeRandomGuydotdotMar 30, 2026

The idea that this is the fault of the masses for not *being educated about their interests* is silliness.
It's called the iron law of oligarchy and the faster people actually understand that there's a reason power concentrates in just about any organization the sooner we can stop blaming bubba for an evergreen problem.

Well, US abandoned news for entertainment. Freedom of press orgs have been warning about this trend for over a decade in the US, and you score fairly low on press freedoms. Go watch the news from most European countries and you will be bored.

SomeRandomGuydotdotMar 30, 2026

Look, we still have real news in the US. It's not like CSPAN stopped existing, but this actually highlights the point.
You can watch all the high quality news you want. It *does not bring you any closer to the levers of power*. Pretending like it does is just an *escapist fantasy* and displays the gross egoism that is pervasive in the modern era.
It's a surrogate activity. It's not actual politics. The education most people need *doesn't come from the news*. It would come from having a gross understanding of civil engineering because we mostly live in a technocracy. At least then they'd be able to meaningful engage with the larger local proposals.
What a broad education would probably achieve is making people less xenophobic assholes, but I wouldn't hold my breath there either.

This is what people that casually call for revolution don't understand, its not usually the nicest or smartest good people that end up in power, its the most calculating and ruthless with no value on their allies lives when they take over and consolidate power. In places like Iran, well you already got the worst in 1979 a terrorist regime funding proxy groups with nuclear ambitions.
Russia still could be much worse, sadly, and it would be a nightmare for the world because of the nuclear threat whatever state that emerges poses plus the possibility of their use in a civil war.

He's clearly never worked 12 hour shifts before. Back in 2019 I started working for Amazon during the Christmas season. Mandatory 12 hour shifts, on top of an hour commute getting to and from work. For a month, I had 10 hours to sleep, eat/cook, and take care of any business I had before I turned around to go back. Half a decade later and I still barely remember what happened that month from the severity of sleep deprivation. I actually fell asleep on my feet at my work station and went home because I didn't feel safe doing my job.
I shit you not that if that's mandatory in Russia, the Russian soldiers in Ukraine won't be the only ones killing themselves - intentionally or otherwise.

The only difference between this billionaire and other billionaires is that he's dumb enough to explicitly propose this publicly. Other billionaires at least veil it behind some "work hard play hard" mentality.

To benefit what, exports? Ultimately, for an economy to succeed you need dollars circulating.

Reminds me of Gilligan’s Island, where the Howell’s learn their marriage was not official. Lovey wants to be courted but Thurston does not. So they “date” others at the recreated Tour D’Argent restaurant. Thurston with Ginger and Lovey with the Professor. Lovey asks the Professor to say something “scientific”, so he blurts out “salicylic acid!” Lovey exclaims “Salicylic acid! I’ll buy you one! I’ll buy you a dozen!” Thurston scowls and tells Ginger “Little does she know how hard other people work to make me money!”
It’s a comedy, but that’s 100% spot on. You know that POS isn’t working 12 hours a day for shit wages.

Ah yes, also force ppl to have more children that will take over at 15 because parents will be either empty husks or dead. Great plan.

Best way to “fix” economy is to pay people on the bottom ….money is the life blood of the economy… only healthy as it circulates, if it pools in the head bad things happen … bad things are happening, but the brain damage has already set in , they can recognize the problem but could never ever envision a solution where the don’t get increasingly wealthy . Some even recognize the problem but can’t see a way to not grab everything. All the blood pools in the head, causes delusions , stroke , eventual death .

I agree. Since russians like so much to be vassals, why not. They can also give putin the right of the first night.

Maybe trickling down some of those billions would be a much better way to fix the economy, or you know not wasting billions on stupid wars the vast majority of people don't even want.
