Tbf the documentary is about how the poor russians cant rise against the regime. If anything its a propaganda asset, but it fits that the regime is proving its point. Now about the documentary reflecting actual truth thats not really close to it. Since in Iran they were 13 yo taking the streets. There are things russians can do. They are just unwilling.

Russians are known for being submissive and dictatorship-affine. Psychotherapy on a country-wide level would do wonders for them.

They should put that on the poster right next to the Oscar.

Indeed. "Banned by Russia" is great advertisement.

It is a worthy doc if you get a chance to see it.

On BBC iPlayer if you have a VPN. It’s worthy but I thought a little dull ultimately.

Same. I was disappointed with the film. It felt more like it was about the guy making it and less about how the town was changing as a result of the war and propoganda.

An immediate reaction many Americans have is, "How horrible it must be to live in a dictatorship." Now, let's compare that to Trump trying to ban journalists from Pentagon briefings, because they ask questions that the military doesn't like.

You missed that the US practices self censorship to effectively achieve the same thing but it works with the idea that Americans have freedom of choice. Russia is just more honest about it. e

> let's compare that to Trump trying to ban journalists from Pentagon briefings, because they ask questions that the military doesn't like. Sure, let's compare it with what [russian journalists go through](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Anna_Politkovskaya).

I think we can all agree both countries have crappy leaders. But they are obviously free to compare d*** sizes.
