> Unmanned systems using FP-2 drones hit a tank at the oil base in Feodosia > The oil terminal was almost completely destroyed in previous strikes, and they are gradually finishing it off Looks like this is by far the largest fuel depot in Crimea. It looked mostly destroyed after prior attacks, and this image confirms Ukraine's recent hit burned down another storage tank. There are a few more left to go. https://t . me/kiber_boroshno/12773

Genius strategy from Russia: Ukraine cannot hit your oil tanks if you have no tanks left!

> Russia: Preliminary assessment of the execution of the federal budget for March 2026 from the Ministry of Finance. 4.576 Trillion Ruble Deficit Full year budget goal is 3.8tr rub, so they've blown that already. Last year the deficit got much bigger between April & December. Sadly, a boost from higher oil prices and some VAT should arrive in April. https://bsky.app/profile/prune602.bsky.social/post/3miz36t5mhs2k

Russia is still promising to pay over 14%/year, they're forcing state-controlled banks to buy a lot of these things, and the central bank is doing massive repo especially to encourage these purchases. They're doing a LOT to just about trundle along at their budget plan goal. Their budget plan seemingly has inflation-adjusted cuts to pensions, healthcare, family benefits and the war. Unless revenues are way above plan (e.g. $100 oil), it seems almost impossible for them to hit their budget. They might need to borrow a lot more then plan.

Andrew Perpetua and his team count the number of the dead Russians they see in footage from the front. For March 2026, that number was 40% higher than March 2025. https://xcancel.com/AndrewPerpetua/status/2041719839270568256

Excellent source. Here's a comparison of Perpetua team count of dead Russians on video with Ukrainian claimed total casualties (GSUA) 👉 December 2024: GSUA: 49k casualties, Perpetua 4,278 dead. Ratio: 11.5:1. 👉 March 2026: GSUA: 32k casualties, Perpetua 5,771 dead. Ratio: 5.5:1.

troglydot 2 days ago +3
Yeah, that is an important perspective. Thanks for putting it together. There's an unexplained discrepancy there. Perpetuas team is the best. At the same time, their data is not unbiased. They see whatever there's footage of. Someone suggested in a comment on his post that the data might be explained by an increase in drone usage. He pretty strongly denied that as an explanation, but I think it's a factor. He and his team put in an extreme effort to collect their data, regularly working all hours of the day and sleeping too little. It's understandable that one would get defensive when someone seemingly dismisses the data. They are one of the absolute best sources for understanding this war.
3
TurbulentRadish8113 1 day ago +2
I agree with all of that. Perpetua Is amazing, but he can't be confident that his sampling is always capturing the same fraction of real casualties. It could be something as simple as new Ukrainian commanders loosening the social media rules and allowing pilots to publish more - how would he know?

How Ukraine’s defense industry innovates at the speed of modern war https://www.defenseone.com/ideas/2026/04/ukraine-defense-industry-innovates-modern-war/412594/ "The Pentagon is negotiating to buy Ukrainian interceptor drones, having concluded that no American manufacturer can match the price, delivery times, and battlefield-tested reliability. A drone developed by UK firm Skycutter with Ukraine’s SkyFall recently scored 99.3 out of 100 in the Pentagon’s own Drone Dominance evaluation, beating every U.S. competitor by more than ten points." Edit: with a little googling, the 99.3/100 refers to a drone called the "Shrike 10 Fiber" https://kyivindependent.com/ukraines-shrike-fiber-drone-reportedly-wins-top-place-in-pentagon-drone-procurement-program/

Implies almost 2 yrs ago, they'd taken 16k losses, or more than 100% of nominal strength. https://bsky.app/profile/leoskyview.bsky.social/post/3miymrjx5rc2y

The whole article and its source are interesting - if verified! It sounds like what you say. Officers and some jobs like recon drone operators are pretty safe. Small risk of death. Those jobs don't come up often, so new meat gets sent to die.

Russia has been able to support what, ~700k in the field for pretty much the whole war? They're not far from twice that in casualties.

The governor of Kuzbass announced the closure of 8 coal mines in the region. There are 33 coal mines in critical condition and 17 have suspended and 8 of them will not resume operations. He stated that for the third year in a row he was working under difficult conditions. He also called the current economic crisis "merciless". Coal production in the Kuzbass has experienced sustained decline for the first time in 20 years. In 2025 production dropped by 7,6 million tons and over the last two years the decrease is 11%. Currently production has dropped to the levels of 2011. The coal mining sector used to account for 40% of the region's budget whilst now it only accounts for 18%. In 2025 the regional budget's coal sector revenue was 36 billion rubles short. Over the last 2 years that figure is 120 billion rubles. Coal mining companies reduced their staff by 7 000 people and the Kuzbass coal mines are less competitive due to their distance from the main export ports. Madyar posts some air defense hits, among other things: >The Buk-M3 air defense system was discovered and decommissioned by Birds of the 1st Battalion of SBS in the TOT of Zaporizhia Oblast >The Tor-M2 air defense system was hunted down and deflated by Birds of the 413th Separate Battalion of SBS "Reid" in the TOT of Donetsk Oblast >The rare Zoo Park-1M radar system was fried by Birds of the 1st Battalion of SBS in the TOT of Zaporizhia Oblast. A highly accurate counter-battery radar complex, a deadly enemy of artillery SAM systems. From a quick look, the first two seem like good hits, the last one looks like a plausible hit on a very camouflaged object that I can't identify. https://t . me/robert_magyar/2186

[Partisans hit Russian rail logistics twice on Kupiansk front – ATESH | New Voice of Ukraine](https://english.nv.ua/nation/sabotage-disrupts-russian-logistics-near-kupiansk-50598632.html) > Partisans carried out a railway sabotage that disrupted Russian military logistics on the Kupiansk front, the ATESH group said on Apr. 8. They said a simultaneous act of sabotage was carried out on a railway section between Stary Oskol and Urazovo, destroying two relay cabinets that control train traffic. > According to members of the movement, the route was used to supply ammunition, equipment and food to occupation forces, including the 138th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade and the 45th Engineer-Sapper Regiment. > Following the damage to the infrastructure, traffic on the section was effectively paralyzed, and the railway control system suffered a major disruption, leading to delays in supply trains and schedule breakdowns, Atesh said. As a result, the units in question sustained losses in equipment and personnel due to disrupted logistics, the partisans said. > “The Atesh movement continues to strike at the occupiers’ military logistics. Every act of sabotage brings victory closer,” the group said.

Just a few day ago there was a post about Russians in the occupied areas complaining they had nothing to shoot at drones with. They had launchers, just no missiles/ammo . I suspect Ukraine drone forces noticed that.
20
WilliamTeddyWilliams 2 days ago +10
With the updates from the last month, it almost feels dystopian for the Russians. You're out there with three dudes who already know there's little hope. You can't really go anywhere because of patrolling drones. You're probably holed up in some house or hole in the ground. Not everybody left even has any ammo. Your only hope is that your own drones can be successful at pushing back the few Ukrainians controlling the patrol in some little farming community a mile in front of you. And if that happens, you'll be forced to walk a mile through an open field to that hopefully abandoned farming community while other attack drones hunt you down. If not, then eventually the seek and destroy drones find your hole in the ground and kill you anyway.

Panthera_leo22 3 days ago +24
UA MOD does not release information on casualties or losses. The motive for doing so is understandable. There is one volunteer run site that is tracking losses: https://ualosses.org/en/soldiers/
24
Canop 3 days ago +15
They're not public. From time to time some vague announcements are done by Zelensky but that's all. By searching, you'll find the estimates of various services and countries, but nothing official *and* precise. edit: I should have mentioned the [ualosses](https://ualosses.org/en/soldiers/) site (thanks /u/Panthera_leo22 for doing it). The entries here are usually considered the most reliable minimal count of losses.

Not very vague, quite exact numbers [https://kyivindependent.com/over-46-000-ukrainian-soldiers-killed-since-start-of-war-zelensky-says/](https://kyivindependent.com/over-46-000-ukrainian-soldiers-killed-since-start-of-war-zelensky-says/)
11
Canop 3 days ago +5
Yes but those numbers are obviously very far from reality (the ualosses site was often verified to not contain many wrong entries), so, assuming Zelensky isn't just lying, the methodology leading to such numbers and what they really mean is where it becomes fuzzy. Is there a delay in strong identification with DNA ? An administrative delay ? Some special filtering leading to only some soldiers being counted ?
5
Firov 2 days ago +6
It seems ualosses also includes missing. That's probably the main reason there's variance from the official number given by Zelensky.
6
Canop 2 days ago +1
ualosses number of dead, not counting missing, is already about twice the number given by Zelensky.
