> In Russia’s Engels, about 200,000 people are without water for over a week because of a failure on the main sewer. > Courtyards and even the first floors of residential buildings are filled with sewage waste, and because of this an emergency regime has been introduced in the city. I hadn't heard about this. Russia's regions have cut infrastructure investment for years, and in Q1 they actually cut real-terms total spending. The squeeze was starting. https://bsky.app/profile/antongerashchenko.bsky.social/post/3mliqsxeexc2i

I don't think I've heard of Engels having trouble, but I do clearly recall at least one spontaneous shit-geyser (literally, it was like a good 30m+ tall manure-fountain) and two different complaints-to-the-Tsar-videos featuring sewerage-flooded streets, underpasses and cellars at different times and places. Turns out sending your workers and civil engineers off to die might have been a short-sighted move.

This was the [shit fountain](https://youtu.be/zKRRHp3MP10?si=dOaGzty5rBq1ycgP) in Moscow, for those that haven't seen it. Glorious!

You found it! Always worth another watch, that one. On reflection, it may have made Moscow contain less shit on average by way of dilution.

Makes sense considering the number of reports of increasingly busted community heating systems over the winter from a similar lack of investment and maintainance.

Bad news but also evidence that Ukraine's efforts prevented things being worse. > 🇷🇺 crude oil exports April 2026: €8.99B, complete month. The highest revenue since the war began. Price surged to €490/t (March: €394/t, +24%) driven by Iran/Hormuz. But volume actually fell: 18.4 Mt vs 19.2 Mt in March. Higher price, less oil leaving port. The strikes left a mark. https://bsky.app/profile/swissdataguy.bsky.social/post/3mljaa5fkmk2t

Shockkdiamondss 2 days ago +4
How the hell Russia can be still exporting this much? Just 4% less, while their strategic oil infrastructure gets bombed on every occasion.
4
KSaburof 2 days ago +3
Afaik russia managed to restore the loading structures in the northern ports, they lost around a week of lowered exports. Such complexes usually have a stock for quick replacement - so subsequent hits needed to deplete such stocks (imho will follow after iran settlement of sorts). They also switched to manual (much more risky) methods of filling tankers without destroyed equipment, for a while. Tuapse was truly demolished, but they were exporting mazut/secondary products mostly, not oil - so less effect on crude oil export volumes/profits But Ukraine also managed to overfill Transneft transient storages which already pushed them to lower extraction. With recent russian data out - oil extraction taxes already went down and this is quite a long-term effect 👌

> DniproOsint analysis confirms strikes on 10 AVT units at Russian refineries since the start of the year. AVT units are core refinery systems, and when disabled, a refinery can fully stop or sharply reduce output. The attacks caused about 1.5 million tonnes of underprocessed oil. Amazing, great job ukraine. 🥰 I want to see these things blowing up every week from now on. https://bsky.app/profile/noelreports.com/post/3mljhf4xv6s2t

Update on a russian drone development. > The Russian Yolka drone reaches speeds of up to 200 km/h, with a 1.6 km range and 0.8 km altitude. It uses a “fire-and-forget” system: after locking onto an aerial target, the drone autonomously performs the interception. https://bsky.app/profile/the-hedgehog.bsky.social/post/3mljq7upqs222 Reminder of another drone story: > 1/ A high-profile figure in Russian drone development has been arrested on charges of large-scale fraud. It's another illustration of how Russia's pervasive corruption is hampering its efforts to become a leading developer and producer of drone technology. ⬇️ https://bsky.app/profile/chriso-wiki.bsky.social/post/3mljhlrhxrf2v

b3iAAoLZOH9Y265cujFh 2 days ago +11
> Yolka It's an interesting concept, but it seems mostly useful against loitering recon drones in ideal daytime conditions. 1.6km isn't exactly a great engagement range either.

This is *in addition* to DPR Ukrainians *and* the estimated 352,000 Russian citizens dead by December 2025 based on Russian probate court records. https://t . me/istrebin/41188

14
TurbulentRadish8113 2 days ago +22
It's among the greatest evils Russia is perpetrating. I cannot adequately explain my disgust at it. And anyone trying to force Ukrainian surrender is explicitly accepting they support the force mobilisation of more Ukrainians to have them sent to die in russian wars. One of the most sick and evil arguments I've seen is "Ukraine needs to surrender. It's terrible Ukraine is mobilising its people and that needs to stop." Pretending to care about Ukrainians by pushing for a result where more Ukrainians will die 🤢

More positive vibes from a Ukrainian officer. I believe he is a reliable & honest but obviously he gets a skewed view. > Enemy assault actions are currently very rare. Even a huge pack of idiots has its limits, and it’s not infinite; if just six months ago these fools could afford to carry out assaults—even then without armor, but still regular ones—now it’s extremely rare, unless some commander comes up with an unbelievable plan (which sometimes happens). Due to a shortage of manpower, they have abandoned constant assaults and instead opted for a “saturation” tactic—a maximally stealthy and as deep as possible penetration through our forward positions, which for years on both sides have not formed a continuous line. > This doesn’t always work, because the enemy is unable to gather enough forces for even moderately large-scale actions, as 60–70% of all these idiots are killed, wounded, or fail to reach the front lines. > After a short time, the enemy will face a more pronounced crisis in offensive potential, and overall, their method of conducting war is exhausting itself. Therefore, enemy advances are now almost nonexistent, plus their troops die very quickly—I’d say on an industrial scale—which creates serious personnel problems, or rather, a critical shortage. https://t . me/officer_33/6849

Russians like most aggressors were thinking geography, Ukrainians responded with sociology.
12
TurbulentRadish8113 2 days ago +20
I've argued for a long time that this is one path that could result in Ukrainian victory. It requires(d) lots of funding for Ukraine to save Ukrainian lives and speed-run Russian exhaustion. It also requires no major new surprises (e.g. russian tech change) and for Russia to be continually trying to attack like a rabid dog while losses exceed recruitment. It's not a guarantee of anything, but the vibes are in line with one path I think is good for Ukraine. The republican betrayal delayed the progress by *a lot* and has caused needless Ukrainian death, which massively reduced the odds of success IMO.
20
gbs5009 2 days ago +5
I think a big part of the reason for Russia's continued assaults is to keep Ukraine too busy reacting to really get the initiative. Once the pressure is off, Ukraine's drone operators are freed up to find more impactful targets than the forward infiltrators.
5
TurbulentRadish8113 2 days ago +3
I think and hope it'll be hard for Russia to stop trying to exert pressure. Their military & political culture seems to demand performative masculinity. Politically they want to be seen as attacking, and individual commanders get rewarded for reporting advances on the map. If they freeze their advances, the ridiculousness of their demand for Ukrainian withdrawals should be even more obvious. So... I want them to attack and have losses that far exceed recruitment, and for Putin to be too scared to mobilise so the russian army is shredded before he truly realises.

[France arrests Russia’s war criminal who ran torture at “Donetsk Dahau” and has been living under refugee status for years | EuroMaidanPress](https://euromaidanpress.com/2026/05/10/france-arrests-russias-war-criminal-who-ran-torture-at-donetsk-dahau-and-has-been-living-under-refugee-status-for-years/) > France has detained a member of the Donetsk People's Republic, a pro-Russian terrorist organization, acting in Ukraine's eastern regions. Ukraine's Security Service and the Office of the Prosecutor General assisted in the operation. > According to investigators, he is implicated in torture carried out in the illegal Donetsk detention facility “Izolyatsiya.” Ukrainian law enforcement agencies reported this. “Izolyatsiya” is a notorious prison facility in Donetsk, where people are tortured simply for being Ukrainian. Journalist Stanislav Aseyev, who survived imprisonment there, described it as “a threshold beyond which a person feels like God while behaving like the devil.” Aseyev also referred to “Izolyatsiya” as a concentration camp, a “Donetsk Dachau,” and claimed that in occupied Donetsk, there were at least ten additional unofficial places of detention. > The investigation established that in 2017–2019, the suspect voluntarily cooperated with representatives of the pro-Russian illegal entity and served as an assistant to the leadership of the illegal prison in occupied Donetsk. He participated in torture, cruel treatment of detainees, psychological pressure, and forcing “required” confessions. At least nine victims have currently been documented. > In 2021, after the Security Service completed its investigation and transferred the case to court, the accused left Ukraine and traveled to France, where he attempted to obtain refugee status. > Following appeals from Ukrainian prosecutors and human rights organizations, including Truth Hounds, French law enforcement opened its own criminal proceedings. As part of a joint investigation by Ukrainian and French investigators, the man was arrested. By decision of the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office, he was taken into custody and charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of a specialized unit of the Paris court.

It does make you think if Russian AA becomes so degraded, does the Ukrainian Air Force mount a several squadron run on the bridge using their bombers with guided bombs to try and destroy it once and for all? Ukrainian pilots are extremely vital to air defense and the recent surges in counter attacks, and eliminating Kerch would be a huge political loss for Putin who cemented his original annexation of Crimea with that bridge.

Mind you, there are other, safer options. Neptunes could presumably make the trip, Ukraine might still have some SCALPs kicking around and - if AD is sufficiently degraded or can be adequately distracted - FP-5's could be used too. Don't know if the latter is precise enough yet though. Edit: Hmm. I wonder where [Project Nightfall](https://kyivindependent.com/everything-we-know-about-project-nightfall-the-uks-ballistic-missile-program-for-ukraine/) is currently at? Last I heard, tests had successfully concluded. [Sapsan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1KR1_Sapsan) reportedly entered serial production a while ago too.

The Flamingos have been hit or miss as of late, and while they do lack the requisite punch the numbers of them just aren’t there yet. It seems like the smaller drones are used as the screens for the Flamingos to hit the major targets, and then they have the unmanned drones, but they’re not big enough to carry the requisite payload. You would practically have to turn the Ukrainian Air Force planes into remote controlled vehicles to make the attack viable.

I'm conflicted as to whether I should post about Fico's latest remarks. On the one hand they are - if not *quite* Orban-levels of Please-Notice-Me-Sempai-simping just yet - nevertheless useless Putin-pandering, and I don't really want amplify his rampant idiocy. On the other hand, it's a massive missed opportunity for us all to point at the global village idiot and laugh. Decisions, decisions...

The last two scene cuts, depicting one Russian soldier taking a swing at the drone with his rifle, just before the drone explodes pretty much in his face, and the other where a downed soldier lying on his back raises his head just to witness the drone literally over him about to explode in his face again -- savage stuff. I'd feel pity for these victims for how they die, but this is war and better them than Ukrainians. The blood is on Putin's hands, including that of any Russian combatant picked from the streets or whatever, who may have no choice between dying by Ukrainian drone vs. being "zeroed" by their own forces for "insubordination".

Ukraine already does so, albeit currently nothing with the range that would enable the scenario you outline. Well, not from submersibles, but I've seen UAVs launched from Magura's (V5's, I think?), Kaltran's and at least one type not yet publicly named. Here's a good visual overview of what out there from Sutton: https://www.hisutton.com/images/Ukraine-USVs.jpg I don't think we'll be seeing FP-2 launching from USVs any time soon unfortunately. They're just to big, heavy and unsubtle to make that practical.

putin negates the trump negotiated POW exchange, thus humiliating trump again, but ofc trump does not care because he is putin's w****: >Just sent out my free weekend update. A fascinating week which revealed alot about the state of the war. Putin had to beg Trump to beg Zelensky to be allowed to hold Russia's Victory Day Parade. Then, it seems, Putin turned around and humiliated Trump-of course. The reason for all of this was also on display this week. Ukrainian long and mid-range strike is getting better and more numerous. Putin was right to be worried that Moscow is not safe. [Putin says he thinks Russia-Ukraine war is coming to an end](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/09/putin-says-he-thinks-the-ukraine-conflict-is-coming-to-an-end.html) >He also said he would be willing to negotiate new security arrangements for Europe and that his preferred negotiating partner would be Germany’s former Chancellor, Gerhard Schröder. I get that Putin wants someone with close ties to Moscow and Europe but Gerhard Schröder has lost most of his influence since the war started. Gerhard Schröder is also 81 years old and in poor health.

Starting at midnight on May 10, Russia attacked Ukraine with 27 strike UAVs of the Shahed, Gerber, and Italmas types, as well as decoy drones of the “Parody” type, from the south. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, as of this morning, all UAVs had been shot down or neutralized, and there were no casualties. https://zn.ua/ukr/war/psevdoperemirja-rosijani-vnochi-atakuvali-ukrajinu-dronami.html At the same time, the night in the frontline regions was restless—there are casualties as a result of Russian attacks. For instance, at midnight, the Russians attacked the Korabelny district of Kherson with a drone. According to the Regional Military Administration, an 18-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds to his arms, a concussion, and blast trauma as a result of the strike. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the occupiers attacked two districts with drones. Specifically, in the Synelnykivskyi district, the Ukrainian and Bohynivska communities were targeted. Infrastructure was damaged there, and a 3-year-old girl was injured. The child was taken to the hospital in moderate condition. In the Zaporizhzhia region, 780 strikes on 33 settlements were recorded over the past day. In particular, there were eight MLRS attacks on Huliaipil, Novoandriivka, Shcherbaky, Stepnogorsk, and Pavlivka. The Russians also fired artillery. The Regional Military Administration reported that 16 reports of damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure were recorded. They noted that on the morning of May 9, one person was killed and three others were wounded as a result of a Russian FPV drone attack on a vehicle. Late in the evening, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov wrote that a Russian drone struck the technical floor of a 9-story building in the city’s Industrial District. As a result, two people were injured and the building itself was damaged. Ukraine and Russia agreed to a three-day ceasefire, which Moscow sought to allow for a parade on the anniversary of the end of World War II

[Pro-Ukrainian partisans set locomotive ablaze in Russia's Lipetsk Oblast, group claims | Kyiv Independent](https://kyivindependent.com/pro-ukrainian-partisans-set-locomotive-ablaze-in-russias-lipetsk-oblast-group-claims/) > Members of the pro-Ukrainian partisan group Atesh allegedly sabotaged an electric locomotive used by the Russian military in Russia's Lipetsk Oblast, Atesh claimed on May 10. A video posted of the purported sabotage effort shows Atesh operatives pouring a flammable liquid into the locomotive's interior and subsequently lighting a flame. A second video of the purported attack shows the locomotive up in flames. > The sabotage operation is alleged to have destroyed the locomotive, used for transporting military cargo towards Ukraine's Sumy Oblast. The attack purportedly took place "on a railway section" southeast of the city of Lipetsk, while the train appeared unattended. It was not clear when the reported attack was carried out. Lipetsk lies approximately 335 kilometers (208 miles) east of the Russia-Ukraine border in Sumy Oblast. > "The disabled locomotive will no longer be able to take part in transporting military trains, meaning another element of the opponent’s logistics system has been halted," Atesh wrote in a statement on social media. The Kyiv Independent could not verify the claims at the time of publication, nor the extent of the damage caused.
