Ryan Coogler's X-Files has cast its leads (and everything else we know so far about the reboot)
Fresh off his Oscar wins for Sinners, writer/director Ryan Coogler already has his next project lined up. He's rebooting The X-Files and writing and directing the pilot for Hulu. This week, that reboot moved forward in a major way. Himesh Patel (The Franchise, Yesterday, Station Eleven) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till, 40 Acres, Station Eleven) have been cast as FBI agents. To be clear, they're not replacing Mulder and Scully, but rather, Deadwyler and Patel will play completely new characters. The

FYI “Himesh Patel (The Franchise, Yesterday) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till, Station Eleven) have been cast as FBI agents. To be clear, they're not replacing Mulder and Scully, but rather, Deadwyler and Patel will play completely new characters.”

Interesting that they reference Station Eleven to introduce Danielle but not Himesh when he had a much bigger role in that show.

ehh_haa Mar 28, 2026 +49
I’m an evangelist for Station Eleven. That show was incredible and both these actors were incredible in it.
49
Alternative_Hour_614 Mar 28, 2026 +35
Station Eleven was so under-appreciated!
35
RustyFogknuckle Mar 28, 2026 +15
I’ve just finished watching it for the first time, and it’s easily one of the best TV programmes I’ve seen.
15
YarrrImAPirate Mar 28, 2026 +8
Is it worth watching? Like it’s a complete show?
8
bill_klondike Mar 28, 2026 +10
Self-contained series and it’s incredible.
10
Magner3100 Mar 28, 2026 +4
And the book is incredible as well! Let’s keep the love train rolling.
4
RustyFogknuckle Mar 28, 2026 +4
It’s superb. The story, the scripts, the performances, the VFX, the score - they all come together to create something truly special. I can’t recommend it highly enough, although I haven’t read the book, so can’t compare them.
4
klitchell Mar 28, 2026 +4
Same I loved it, and the book but for separate reasons
4
Signiference Mar 28, 2026 +4
One of the best limited series all time.

TwinsiesBlue Mar 28, 2026 +9
Thank you so much, I thought hol up, and Station Eleven was great, loved it and I wish the Comic Book existed
9
deepstatelady Mar 29, 2026 +1
The book does!
1
General_Kick688 Mar 28, 2026 +5
The linked article does list Station Eleven for both actors.
5
DookofDeuces Mar 28, 2026 +1
Yea. I wasnt sure what these folks were talking about. The article doesnt say it was updated before these complaints either
1
-Nightopian- Mar 28, 2026 +4
If I had to guess it's because they don't want to use the same work to credit both actors so they used that for her since she may not have anything else that is noteworthy compared to him.
4
Bigboyrickx Mar 28, 2026 +2
He was so f****** good in that show. 100% made it the show a banger for me
2
LouieMumford Mar 28, 2026 +1
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It’s been years since I watched that show and don’t remember who she played.
1
Zentrii Mar 28, 2026 +1
I only liked the episodes in the past with him and the young girl.
1
Ordinary_Mother_ Mar 28, 2026 +1
Right! I was like “oh Himesh Patel! I loved him in Station Eleven!. Now who is Danielle Deadwyler…oh she was also amazing in Station Eleven!” Honestly love them both but it’s weird they only called out Station Eleven for her. Whatever, it fantastic news all around!
1
ComputerDecent463 Mar 28, 2026 +32
No one is saying they are, the originals will probably recur in a small capacity, but the new actors will surely have the same dynamic. The female will probably be the believer this time.

Foreign-Entrance-255 Mar 28, 2026 +20
Be nice to have Scully in Skinner's role or maybe have Skinner in the role and have her as some special rapporteur to congress or POTUS.
20
portablebiscuit Mar 28, 2026 +6
And Mulder is the new CSM, but he vapes sick clouds
6
captjackjack Mar 28, 2026 +3
Goes on long rant about the effects and ingredients of vaping. Proceeds to blow out a huge cloud anyway.
3
Brave_Quantity_5261 Mar 28, 2026 +3
“The vaping man”
3
Ordinary-Leading7405 Mar 28, 2026
Can we not have Skinner?
0
Foreign-Entrance-255 Mar 28, 2026 +11
I would like to have him but I don't know how realistic it would be having him in the same job for 30 years.
11
ClockworkMansion Mar 28, 2026 +11
He works for the government, though
11
bforce1313 Mar 28, 2026 +5
Would enjoy Skinner in a retired consultant role of some sort. Popping in here in there to lend an ear or help out while being a cranky retired guy.
5
StarkyPants555 Mar 28, 2026
I could see him doing a cameo at least
0
Penguinkeith Mar 28, 2026 +6
Stupid s*** skinner

evolutionxtinct Mar 28, 2026 +4
Thanks for this clarification!

ThePooksters Mar 28, 2026 +1
Himesh Patel was also in Station Eleven, he starts as the lead character lol
1
wifey_material7 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Indian representation lets goooo love Ryan Coogler
1
JackBurton___Me Mar 28, 2026 +70
I like both actors, and Coogler’s got chops. Hard to capture that early X-files magic, but I’ll at least give it a chance.
70
graysongear Mar 28, 2026 +6
Love Patel in Yesterday
6
wojar Mar 28, 2026 +1
That is a good movie!
1
ThatPatelGuy Mar 28, 2026 +1
Such an original idea. I loved that movies
1
barcham22 Mar 28, 2026 +20
They should’ve just left the series alone. The original was a product of its time when alien abduction and ghost shows were popular and on national TV. It just actually ended up being good. I don’t think anyone can bring it back successfully.
20
Chance_Sheepherder_8 Mar 28, 2026 +19
No disrespect to Coogler. He’s very talented. The hardest part is X-Files is linked so intrinsically to Mulder’s quest that trying to create the same sort of passion, no matter how, is gonna be the biggest hurdle. Most legacy reboots don’t work. Some are mercifully aborted before we have to suffer, like the new Buffy. Some make it to air and taint to love for what came before. I hope this doesn’t fall into either category.
19
Jimbuscus Mar 28, 2026 +11
It's the same issue as with Supernatural. Supernatural didn't make it 15 seasons from it's writing, that's for sure, it was casting & chemistry. That's something you can't find with a reboot. Supernatural had a spinoff which lasted a single season, so did X-File's already. I think with both shows the only viable alternative is an anthology, different cases with different characters each episode. They don't all need to be FBI agents. If an episode stands out, there is always the room to expand on that. If you want a storied season, that's possible too, you just need to look at Max Brooks' WWZ novel for anthology storytelling.
11
Fickle_Competition33 Mar 28, 2026 +5
Agreed. I think it's sort of "came for the plot, stayed for the cast". Same that happened with Stranger Things, you first hook people with an amazing plot, while slowly and discreetly developing characters, to the point you get so related to characters the plot is just an environment setup.
5
Chance_Sheepherder_8 Mar 28, 2026 +3
One of the best audio books I ever heard. I also agree about Supernatural. So many shows live or die by chemistry. Some die because of scheduling. Some die due to adding too much messaging and too little entertainment. Cheers got lucky twice with cast changes having amazing chemistry with the established characters. Same with its spin off. But when Frasier came back without his cast mates - no chemistry with the new ones.
3
Krandor1 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Yeah kinda the same issue they had the one season where they replaced the leads. It didn’t hit the same. Though you would have thought the networks would have learned way back from Coy and Vance that that never works well.
2
Chance_Sheepherder_8 Mar 28, 2026 +1
The infamous Dukes Of Hazzard season. Haha. Good comparison.
1
Accomplished_Pen4965 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Yeah I'm looking at the new characters and how they are described as "highly decorated FBI agents" that alone loses the dynamic of the original already. Mulder was an FBI outcast called "Spooky Mulder" and made fun of and Scully was new and, although talented, not decorated at all. It just added quite a bit. I think you already lose a lot when you make both FBI agents highly decorated, but I guess we will see.
2
Chance_Sheepherder_8 Mar 28, 2026 +1
And if they bring back legacy characters it doesn’t always work and hurts said character - like Star Trek: Picard (seasons 1 & 2). I hope Coogler gets it, but I don’t want to see another show ruined by a bad revival. The first couple seasons of Supernatural were like X-Files but found its own voice and chemistry. Most importantly, it was an original IP. Hollywood would rather ruin what we used to love than take risks on something original.
1
whitetyle Mar 28, 2026 +19
Evil aliens bout to be pale af lol

Severe-Sort9177 Mar 28, 2026 +5
Michael B Jordan as Fox Mulder & Michael B Jordan as Dana Scully
5
PM_ME_VENUS_DIMPLES Mar 28, 2026 +34
Two of the top comments here are “They should have brought back the original cast” and “Why can’t we get anything original?” Love it. The duality of man. I’ll wait to actually see it before I pass judgement. I don’t LOVE everything from Coogler, but I know he at least won’t phone it in.
34
Mz_Macross1999 Mar 28, 2026 +15
The last reboot with the OGs was barely a decade ago and was also absolutely shite, I am not listening to the opinions of those people
15
amayain Mar 28, 2026 +2
It had a couple good episodes if i remember right. But yea, there was a ton of shit in there too.
2
BlazeOfGlory72 Mar 28, 2026 +2
>“They should have brought back the original cast” and “Why can’t we get anything original?" These aren't really mutually exclusive opinions. You can bemoan the lack of original stories, while also thinking that if they are going to bring back a show, they should stay true to the original. This show is the worst of both worlds, not being original, but also not being like the old thing we all liked.
2
theGoldbergV Mar 28, 2026 +22
The X files is an incredible premise that allows for all sorts of different and compelling stories. They are not recasting the characters of Mulder and Scully, this is a continuation with new characters. Coogler is great and the casting is great, this has lots of promise. I say this as a massive fan of the original series, but even if this reboot/rework/spinoff/whatever is aggressively average it’ll still be better than most of seasons 9-11
22
AuroraBolognese Mar 28, 2026 +5
My hope is with the way television formatting is now, they can actually follow through with whatever mythology they come up with without fear of disrupting the weekly formula. As much as I love the original series, it was clear they were more invested in monster of the week stories than ever directly answering any of the little mythology clues they’d drop now and again, I’m guessing as an attempt to reward longtime viewers. For example, how many times did Mulder find his sister? (Or almost find?) How many times did the worldwide alien invasion almost start? I will never forgive them ending S10 with the alien invasion, Mulder is about to die, alien ships are in the sky, only for S11 to begin by letting us know it was all a dream. Just a vision of the future to come. JFC! The reboot has potential to stay focused and commit to long-form storytelling while still having case of the week episodes. I’m excited for it.
5
derekakessler Mar 28, 2026 +2
I really need entertainment media to use "revival" instead of "reboot". Revival = the show resumes where it left off, same universe, continuing story and continuity Reboot = the same base story, setting, and characters, but starting over from with new cast and maybe direction X-Files returning is a revival. Cobra Kai is a revival. Battlestar Galactica and Hawaii 5-0 are reboots.

rhj2020 Mar 28, 2026 +22
Himesh is a awesome pick! He was so good in station eleven.
22
Jaclaran Mar 28, 2026 +6
He was great in Avenue 5 as well.
6
TarsesaK Mar 28, 2026 +3
Also in Inception and Tenet
3
abhisheknayar Mar 28, 2026 +7
Lol its not him in Inception

Crossovertriplet Mar 28, 2026 +8
That’s what he wanted you to think! Acting!

WreckTangle1995 Mar 28, 2026 +10
Also, the Beatles movie Yesterday, which is a fantastic watch and not that talked about.
10
Archibald-Tuttle Mar 28, 2026 -5
His character was awful in that movie
-5
Overall_Affect_2782 Mar 28, 2026 -6
I legitimately hate this casting because of that movie. He was awful and to be honest, I groaned when I saw him in Tenet.
-6
IceCreamNarwhals Mar 28, 2026 +18
Unlike most here it seems, I’m really looking forward to this, the more sci-fi and horror out there the better.
18
HorrorGuyBri Mar 28, 2026 +8
Agreed. I also want to see what Coogler does with this and what fresh ideas he could bring to it.
8
luigiamarcella Mar 28, 2026 +1
This plus Coogler’s involvement plus moving away from the main characters (though I’d enjoy an Anderson cameo) has me hopeful.
1
Midnout26 Mar 28, 2026 +27
wtf is up with the comments
27
BleakGod Mar 28, 2026 +9
Melanin hate. Neither are bad actors. Just pure hatred being emitted. Too many minorities made it 'political' to them.
9
luigiamarcella Mar 28, 2026 +8
Both of them are in fact good to great actors to anyone actually familiar with their work.
8
-OrangeLightning4 Mar 28, 2026
Station Eleven alone has my ass in a seat to watch at minimum the pilot.
0
OccidoViper Mar 28, 2026 +10
Himesh is a great actor, looking forward to it!
10
Stealthoneill Mar 28, 2026 +3
I love The X Files. I’m not sold on a reboot but anything in the world of The X Files is something I’m 100% in for. I don’t know the female lead but I don’t think I’ve seen Himesh give a bad performance yet and while I’ve not loved all of Cooglers stuff, there’s way more hits than misses.
3
SeagullsStopItNowz Mar 28, 2026 +3
I'm glad they are playing original characters and not recasting Mulder and Scully. I have faith in Ryan Coogler that this will be amazing.
3
AquamannMI Mar 28, 2026 +1
Just as a contemporary that plays in the same sandbox, but I had faith in Jordan Peele and his Twilight Zone reboot was very middling at best.
1
Dangle76 Mar 28, 2026 +8
I have nothing against the casting, but I feel like it’s going to be very hard to have xfiles without Mulder and Scully
8
BlazeOfGlory72 Mar 28, 2026 +1
They are what made X-Files the X-Files. Without Mulder and Scully, it's just a regular "people investigate supernatural events" show. If they were going to go this route, they might as well have made it its own thing like Fringe. Of course then they couldn't cash in on the brand recognition...
1
Dangle76 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I wouldn’t say it won’t be x-files. The overarching storyline that has involved them did have a close at the end of it all. It’s just going to be hard to grab viewers of the original
1
PlanetLandon Mar 28, 2026 -4
Why? It’s a very simple concept. Adding new people to the world of X-Files is exciting
-4
Dangle76 Mar 28, 2026 +9
Because they’ve been the face and identity of the entire series for decades. I’m not saying it’s not possible and not exciting, just that it may be really challenging to have an identity without them
9
PlanetLandon Mar 28, 2026 -2
There is an entire generation of TV watchers who have no idea who Fox Mulder or Dana Scully are. You are allowed to give X-Files to a new audience.
-2
Dangle76 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Why am I getting responses as if I’m saying it’s not going to work or be good. I merely said it’s going to be a challenge to give it an identity without the faces a lot of watchers grew up knowing. It’s a simple statement.
1
SMWW66 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Station Eleven is an excellent show and these two were in the main cast, very exciting!
2
PeltonsDalmation Mar 28, 2026 +2
Hell yeah, I'm really looking forward to this
2
InternationalMood337 Mar 28, 2026 +2
We need more aliens. I'm so excited for this.
2
yoggiez Mar 28, 2026 +2
Oh yeah. Watching this day 1. Can't wait
2
Inside_Performer918 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Please don’t ruin X Files.
2
blahrawr Mar 28, 2026 +2
Im perfectly fine with an Xfiles reboot. As much as I love the original run, and even some of the revival seasons, it needs a new set of eyes and hands to continue in any way
2
BlazeOfGlory72 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Maybe I'm just being cynical, but this seems like a lazy attempt to cash in on brand recognition while just doing your own project. Like, there is nothing special about the "people investigate supernatural events" concept. Plenty of shows have done it. What made X-Files what it was were Mulder and Scully.
2
Jx____ Mar 28, 2026 +3
we really have run out of original ideas, why cant anything be its own original show, we need another remake? cant u just make an original sci fi mystery tv show wtf - lazy ass shit, everything is a sound a like or a remake and its gross
3
Quirky-Pie9661 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Best of luck Ryan. The creators of the show tried to bring the franchise back twice and failed. I think the time in which the show was huge had everything to do with its popularity
2
existential_hope Mar 28, 2026 +2
Please don’t let SpiderKash get on the show. I know it’s the FBI, but still…no one needs that.
2
Poundaflesh Mar 28, 2026 +2
Please, please, please don’t f*** it up with conspiracies and romance!!!!
2
killias2 Mar 28, 2026 +2
So Coogler has watched Station Eleven is what I'm hearing
2
ChexAndBalancez Mar 28, 2026 +2
Coogler's first non-black lead is ..... Indian. lol
2
pajamajean Mar 28, 2026 +5
Love this. Can’t wait.
5
ssdd_idk_tf Mar 28, 2026 +5
This will be interesting in this political climate. I’ve been rewatching from season 1 and the biggest hurdle for me, in terms of suspended-disbelief, is not the aliens or creatures; its the idea that anybody in the gov would try to do the right thing for the people. We need this show now more than ever!
5
ou812_X Mar 28, 2026 +7
2 seasons tops. Should have thrown money at it & brought back the originals 20 years later when something throws them together again.
7
Jaws_the_revenge Mar 28, 2026 +9
Didn’t they do that already?
9
HorrorGuyBri Mar 28, 2026 +7
Kind of. About ten years ago, Fox did a two-season revival of the series. There are some okay episodes in the mix, but I know that Anderson wasn't at all happy with the Scully's character arc for that revival. The mythology episodes were especially bad in that revival, IMO.
7
ehh_haa Mar 28, 2026 +3
It is hilarious that the other commenter’s sure-shot idea lasted exactly 2 seasons.
3
onplants Mar 28, 2026 +5
Yeah and it was a flop
5
Electrorocket Mar 28, 2026 +1
It had good numbers, especially season 1. They were all good episodes except the Conspiracy ones and the jihadi one. Those were terrible!
1
HorrorGuyBri Mar 28, 2026 +13
Gillan Anderson has hinted she's open to returning and said she's been in talks with Coogler. So we'll see.
13
PlanetLandon Mar 28, 2026 +1
So do the most boring and uninspired thing possible?
1
Intelligent-Love5146 Mar 28, 2026 +2
"Let's re-make Dusk till Dawn, but cast differently" "Let's re-make X-files, but this time, the detectives are..." well, you know...
2
DickFiddler70 Mar 28, 2026 +2
Why can't the entertainment industry come up with an original idea? Remake after remake, always garbage.
2
luigiamarcella Mar 28, 2026 +17
X-Files is great framing to let a bunch of younger writers trying to establish themselves take a shot at some fun sci fi and horror content though. You realize they’re not just going to rewrite the old stories?
17
ReactionProcedure Mar 28, 2026 +8
I agree but xfiles already had a ton of original stand alone episodes, which is basically anthology+ the overarching conspiracy which could be continued or rebooted too.
8
Even-Selection-5403 Mar 28, 2026 +6
The monster-of-the-week episodes are what drew in so many viewers to begin with, and there's no reason they can't continue the conspiracies with new agents investigating and picking up where the old guard left off. I was young back then but I seem to remember people being upset when Doggett and Reyes took over, and I ended up liking them more than Mulder and Scully. I'm excited to see what Coogler does!
6
ReactionProcedure Mar 28, 2026 +3
I will never forget seeing the episode ICE from Season 1. It was an homage to the thing, brilliant.
3
Even-Selection-5403 Mar 28, 2026 +1
My absolutely unforgettable episode is X-Cops. That's also around the time I started watching again, probably due to that episode.
1
PlanetLandon Mar 28, 2026 +4
So are you one of those people that complains about a lack of originality, but doesn’t support original shows and movies?
4
L0nzilla Mar 28, 2026 +2
Agreed. I think about things like that Nicole Kidman AMC promo urging us to go to the theater.. if you want me to spend $40/person for the experience, you need to make a good, original movie
2
Plane_Massive Mar 28, 2026 +3
I agree but then all of the top movies by box office are sequels or remakes or adaptations
3
Xacto-Mundo Mar 28, 2026 +1
Your comment is as treadworn as the Land Before Time franchise.
1
Particular-Luck1172 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Why is it a crime to cast white people in roles now Mulder and Scilly were white and nobody cared
1
Significant-Kale-463 Mar 28, 2026 +1
As long as one is a skeptic and the other is a true believer, what they look like is irrelevant.
1
Snakedoctor85 Mar 28, 2026
The same question can be asked the other way. Why does it matter either way? The bigger problem is everything is a remake or reboot and nothing is original!
0
Particular-Luck1172 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I'm not meaning it in any racist way but the witch in wicked they cast a black actress snow white white a Latina actress it just seems they go out of there way to do these castings
1
Snakedoctor85 Mar 28, 2026 +3
It is another attempt to make a thing that once was, different. The fact that they are fictional characters it doesn’t matter. Know if we are talking about an Elvis movie been casted as a black person or a MLK movie being casted as a white person then the outrage would be warranted…
3
loafjunky Mar 28, 2026 +1
>the witch in wicked they cast a black actress Why does skin color of the actress matter to you when the character she played had green skin?
1
6kred Mar 28, 2026 +2
I’m just happy they’re replacing Scully & Mulder. I hope the series is good. The X Files is one of my fav series ever !
2
Turbolasertron Mar 28, 2026 -1
Lot of simple minded comments in this comment section
-1
VampireHunterAlex Mar 28, 2026 -2
Dang, there’s a lot of racists here that just assume controversy based on the race of the new cast…
-2
schprunt Mar 28, 2026 +1
He should bring back Vince Gilligan to write the first episode
1
HorrorGuyBri Mar 28, 2026 +3
Coogler has already written the pilot, and he's set to direct it. I wouldn't be surprised if he asks Vince Gilligan to write another episode. We'll see!
3
schprunt Mar 28, 2026 +1
Well he’s a very talented guy. I just watched the first season of Pluribus though, Gilligan has mad skills
1
iheartdev247 Mar 28, 2026 +1
X-Files couldn’t work when the original gang got back together. A new spin but with new characters seems destined to fail. I’m hoping for the best but expecting one season.
1
suck-it-elon Mar 28, 2026 +1
Freaking love Himesh.
1
Oinkidoinkidoink Mar 28, 2026 +1
I'm moderately pumped. Both actors were great in Station Eleven.
1
Sxs9399 Mar 28, 2026 +1
This is great, I’m confident Coogler will breathe fresh air into the series.
1
OkDentist4059 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I knew about Deadwyler but Patel is a great get too. They were both lights out in Station Eleven
1
mapleleaffem Mar 28, 2026 +1
I hope Scully and Mulder are involved with some cameos-that reboot season was so good! If not cameos they better be involved as the cannon for the new show. Fingers crossed for an epic new sci-fi show!
1
zulutbs182 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I know it won’t happen, but I want Doggett in this somehow.  Maybe he’s the current AD, or deputy director.  Still skeptical, but willing to admit to himself and the new agents there’s more to the xfiles than the rest of the FBI lets on.
1
hereforthesportsball Mar 28, 2026 +1
Using both when they both worked on something else together isn’t exciting at all but at least we know the chemistry is there
1
Excellent-Daikon-286 Mar 29, 2026 +1
both great actors! excited for this one
1
brokodoko Mar 28, 2026 +1
I just want it to be monster-of-the-week X-Files and not “Mulder’s sister abducted” X-Files

if it can sprinkle some X Files, Fringe, and Mr Robot into a blender into this new x files universe then I guess i would be ok with it

DocCEN007 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Why doesn't the article show the two people actually cast?
1
-_-Knightingale-_- Mar 28, 2026 +1
So you click on it to see $$$

Harrison_Thinks Mar 28, 2026 +1
Please let it be streaming. If this show is on network television it will be terrible. I hate to see it go but network just can’t do good shows anymore, besides a few anomalies like Abbot Elementary. The majority just feels like Temu TV.
1
HorrorGuyBri Mar 28, 2026 +2
It's going to be on Hulu.
2
Harrison_Thinks Mar 28, 2026 +3
That’s better but I feel like Hulu originals are the bottom tier of streaming compared to Max, Apple, or even Netflix. Peacock, Paramount and Hulu originals can be very hit or miss. I don’t doubt Coogler but I was hoping for Max or Apple, especially because Sinners did so well for Warner Bros

RealCarlosSagan Mar 28, 2026 +1
I'm all for a new horror/sci fi anthology show and Ryan Coogler makes great stuff. I'm in!
1
Gomillionaire1206 Mar 28, 2026 +1
This should be good
1
DrFrancisBGross Mar 28, 2026 +3
Should be, but won't be
3
Cgmadman Mar 28, 2026 +1
I don’t understand. Kevin Sorbo and Dean Cain were available and they cast these two? DEI hires. /s. I love Danielle Deadwyler. She is great in everything she does. 40 acres was an underrated movie.

mcpryon Mar 28, 2026 +1
“Everything dies, Mr. Mulder.” Please just let it go…
1
Cultural_Set_9887 Mar 28, 2026 +1
There is no way the writers will have the balls to tackle modern conspiracies with half the seriousness the original show did. There is just no way it can be even decent with the current writing tropes

Koopk1 Mar 28, 2026 -13
eh... was kind of looking forward to it, but not now

rawmerow Mar 28, 2026 +7
A little too…. dark for you?

FictionFantom Mar 28, 2026 -1
So they were fine with a black show runner but not black actors? Have you considered that maybe the race of the actors has nothing to do with it and defaulting to racism doesn’t make you a good person?
-1
CronoTinkerer Mar 28, 2026 +2
So when the articles entire purpose is to introduce the two actors, who are not white and someone reacts this way, I think the likely reason is racism. Otherwise, they could easily have said “I really don’t like the acting of X”
2
V2Blast Mar 28, 2026 +4
Why, exactly?
4
elephantgoeswest Mar 28, 2026 -8
Why? Because the leads aren’t white?
-8
Impossible_Log9234 Mar 28, 2026 -3
Let the meltdowns from rightwing anti-woke youtubers begin. Or maybe they're too busy already melting down from the news that Colbert co-wrote a Lord of the rings movie that's already in pre-production.

How... how can you know this? You also referred to Mulder and Scully by their character names. Did their characters have great chemistry before filming? If you think I'm just being a pedantic d***, do you somehow actually remember David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson being known for their chemistry before filming...?
23
DiddleMe-Elmo Mar 28, 2026 -7
I just don't see MBJ and Austin Butler having this level of chemistry.
-7
Mysterious-Wasabi103 Mar 28, 2026
Is that who was cast?
0
ReactionProcedure Mar 28, 2026 +1
Two actors who aren't white were cast. Therefore it's already awful and nothing can save it.
1
deanolavorto Mar 28, 2026 +11
Sorry but have those two ever worked together? Like how could you know this?
11
psyopia Mar 28, 2026 +5
Do you work with casting? That’s crazy. What else can you tell us. /s
5
AlarmingStarPhantom Mar 28, 2026 +7
are you angry they are not white or how the f*** do you know what chemistry they'll have in front of the camera when filming hasn't even begun?
7
Rustystrings720 Mar 28, 2026 -1
Coogs is doing X-files? I’m in
-1
jogoso2014 Mar 28, 2026
Bring up new cast, show picture of old cast… I like both of the leads. The article refers to only one of them being in a Station 11, but both have major roles and both are great in it.

Educational_Leg7360 Mar 29, 2026
read multiple articles that say X Files helped promote the same government skepticism that we see today in the MAGA movement - need to leave the show dead

rawmerow Mar 28, 2026 -13
See guys when it’s an actor from the past and the part is recast then it has to be a person of the exact same heritage. It has to be a tall Caucasian man and a medium height red head with blue eyes. Nothing else will suffice. However! A white actor can play ANY other race he wants! He can wear any prosthetic, makeup, he can have any ridiculous accent, etc to make himself ANY race at all!! Those are the rules we shall abide by!

IceCreamNarwhals Mar 28, 2026 +7
But this isn’t a remake, these are new characters?
7
MyIncogName Mar 28, 2026 +6
That hasn’t really been the case though recently
6
4umlurker Mar 28, 2026 +3
It’s funny they use the red hair blue eyes example too. It’s been pointed out the red haired characters are race swapped frequently in the past here as well. [for example](https://www.listnook.com/r/cartoons/s/j1JrjrkvTN)

-7
veryverythrowaway Mar 28, 2026 -1
Here’s where I dread the reaction to the casting, not because these actors were poor choices but because of the inevitable culture war that will erupt around the show. It’s not the fault of Coogler or the actors he cast, but it’s going to be so annoying.

Some_Ride1014 Mar 28, 2026 -42
Didn’t watch it the first time around, will not be watching it this time.
