Ryan Gosling Recalls Preparing For ‘Project Hail Mary’ By Consulting Katy Perry
LOS ANGELES—Crediting the singer for sharing her unique expertise, actor Ryan Gosling told reporters Friday the story of how he prepared for his role in Project Hail Mary by consulting Katy Perry. “Katy was a tremendous help on set—I couldn’t have played Dr. Ryland Grace without her,” said the 45-year-old actor, who confirmed that the singer […]

The Onion should be posting ridiculous BUT TRUE articles on April Fools
1

This is real, I was the spaceship she called Ryan from

Ask Justin Trudeau

Sounds like someone is jealous he's f****** Katy Perry and they aren't.

Depends on the reasoning, I could see a fish out of water element to the questions. His character isn’t spaced trained at all
1
snakeLipssynk Apr 1, 2026 +1
If it was true, this would actually make sense. It's not like top level actors wouldn't have the wherewithal to access career astronauts.
1
Bukki13 Apr 1, 2026 +1
yeah such a giant missed opportunity on their part ngl
1
SlimDiscipline-69 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Lol that'd be great. I can already imagine the flip-flopping emotions like: "That can't be true..." *reads from 'TheOnion'* "Oh! That makes sens—" *realizes the date* "...wait a minute..."
1
MysteriousWon Apr 1, 2026 +1
I think r/news already has a monopoly on that one.
1
KitchenFullOfCake Apr 1, 2026 +1
At this point that would just be the regular news.
1
majikmonkie Apr 1, 2026 +1
There's already enough US political commentary to fill that hole.
1

1

1

Or true, but really mundane stuff. Like funding for pothole repairs being approved in Anderson County, Indiana or something.
1

Thank you Katy Perry, pioneer of the stars. First you inspired the moon race and Star Trek, now this 🙏

1

No that was Jennifer Lawrence, the first ever female action star, according to Jennifer Lawrence.
1
typewriter6986 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That's right. I forgot. It was Katy Perry that inspired Amelia Earhart. Pretty sure. Probably.
1
Fake_William_Shatner Apr 1, 2026 +1
No, it’s action figure. They repurposed the Chuck Norris doll by slapping on b****. You can tell because it still has the Kung Fu grip.
1
Fake_William_Shatner Apr 1, 2026 +1
I had a speech prepared but Elon threw up on it.  One blue marble. One people. An infinite vista of opportunity with no beginning or end unless you can find Greenwich. But you can’t because nothing is marked. Earth is nothing like the globe in my study. You can’t even see “Pacific Ocean.” It’s longer than Peru — what’s up with that?
1
Nipple-Cake Apr 1, 2026 +1
Truly a genius and trailblazer of our time. Thank you for your service Astro-NOT Katherine Perry. My favorite quote of hers was always "Is math related to science?".
1

1
ArcticCelt Apr 1, 2026 +1
What people don't know is that Justin Trudeau is actually undercover, sent to "infiltrate" Katy Perry and steal US' most precious and prized space secrets.
1
laluneodyssee Apr 1, 2026 +1
I thought this was real for just a nanosecond, until I saw the source. My sincere apologies Ryan...
1
squirlz333 Apr 1, 2026 +1
I thought there was another katy perry that happened to be an astronaut, then I thought it was April fools, now I realize it's just theonion
1
The_Autarch Apr 1, 2026 +1
you miss the news stories about katy going to space? the internet wouldn't shut up about it for a month.
1
rookie-mistake Apr 1, 2026 +1
i think they just assumed, given the context, that it was a different person in this case who would be presumably more qualified to answer those questions
1
GuyPierced Apr 1, 2026 +1
She literally kissed the f****** ground after she got back...
1
urson_black Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah, she's an astronaut- the same way I'm a deep-sea diver 'cuz I touched the bottom in the deep end of the pool...
1
I_love_pillows Apr 1, 2026 +1
The astronaut Kae T Perry disagrees.
1
DeathMetalViking666 Apr 1, 2026 +1
From what I've seen of Ryan Gosling's humour, this seems completely like something he'd say. Utterly deadpan too.
1
WaywardWes Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah I totally bought him saying it with his little smirk.
1
Secret_Collection925 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That's exactly what I thought too.
1
Fake_William_Shatner Apr 1, 2026 +1
It would fit right in the Barbie Movie.  Then cut to a scene where the are both taking selfies in matching sliver space suits. There’s even a moon bike for two, sold separately.
1
I_miss_your_mommy Apr 1, 2026 +1
I just assumed he actually said it as a joke since he’s got that kind of wit.
1
SDRPGLVR Apr 1, 2026 +1
And also the kind of charm where he'd have actually done it and come away making her feel positive about the exchange because boy did she face a lot of harassment over an activity almost all of us would jump at the opportunity to do. I mean she's a big enough celebrity she was probably shielded from that, but boy did the internet get mad.
1
I_miss_your_mommy Apr 1, 2026 +1
You know, that’s why he wouldn’t have done it. He’s funny enough, but by nature it’s the kind of derisive sarcasm that he’d have never pointed at her. He’s too nice to make a joke like that at her expense.
1
BonerPorn Apr 1, 2026 +1
I figured it was a real joke. Like he actually did talk to Katy Perry about being in space for a bit then jokingly played it up like an important experience. It would be his sense of humor.
1
wasabi1787 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Even if he really said it, it's obviously a joke
1
Dadpurple Apr 1, 2026 +1
Oh thank f***. I thought this was real
1
OuisghianZodahs42 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Me too! I wanted to make a Ken joke!
1
swordthroughtheduck Apr 1, 2026 +1

1

1
GoodOlSpence Apr 1, 2026 +1
I know this is the Onion, but I could also see him saying this as a joke.
1
Lmb1011 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Before I saw the source I thought it was Ryan saying it for April fools🤣 so I guess I was half right
1

“Yeah this is going to be great PR” - Katy in her head thinking of this the night before.
1
Seanspeed Apr 1, 2026 +1
I kinda hate the rhetoric surrounding this. They just took off on a f****** ROCKET and went 60 miles up *essentially* into space. For people not trained for that kind of extreme action, it likely would have been pretty terrifying and make you VERY appreciative of when you get back onto ground safely.
1
CurtisLeow Apr 1, 2026 +1
How do you get a flair? I don't see it on the sidebar. I want a Zoolander 2 flair.
1

This wasn’t due to re-entry. It was a “pull my finger” joke gone wrong. Who knew an enclosed environment would be so methane challenged?
1

1
balthazar_edison Apr 1, 2026 +1
I can’t tell if I hate April fools or I just hate the way that this is actually a believable headline given the state of the world.
1
smurfsundermybed Apr 1, 2026 +1
Definitely the latter. Reality is too absurd for this holiday right now.
1
Agitated-Acctant Apr 1, 2026 +1
You could just look at the URL and see it's not real, but that would depend on even a modicum of media literacy, first

As an avid Katy Perry hater (killed a nun) I was clapping and screaming and laughing but alas it's April fools lol 😂
1
HurlinVermin Apr 1, 2026 +1
Oh man, I almost went off on a rant before I looked at the source. Thank the stars, I don't have to write Ryan gosling off as a moron, yet... However, in interviews and one in-person live event, he has referred to his character as traveling to a 'different galaxy'. No Ryan, Tau Ceti is not in another galaxy my Hollywood chum.
1
egnards Apr 1, 2026 +1
Not for nothing, but I'm not going to deduct points for an actor not knowing that an obscure star 12 lightyears away isn't in the same galaxy as Earth. For 99.999999999% of people living, it's completely irrelevant information. . .And practically irrelevant even for the role.
1
StrLord_Who Apr 1, 2026 +1
In this galaxy or any other, needing a "source" to know that this is a joke is patently absurd.  Even if Ryan really said it,  it obviously would have been a joke.

Since we all have to live with hyperbolic, half truths and lies inundating us every waking moment nowadays, maybe we could just put April fool's nonsense behind us?
1

Honestly not a bad idea, if you want to portray someone who has no business being in space then she's probably the best you can do.

OK. hear me out. Katy Perry isn't an astronaut. Ryan Gosling's character (been a while since I read the book) isn't an astronaut. HE could have called up Chris Hadfield, but that's not a good comparison. Katy Perry is. She's a rank amateur with no clue what she's doing in that experience.
