Ryan Reynolds Says Deadpool Will Be a ‘Supporting Character’ Moving Forward and ‘I’ve Got Stuff Written’ for His Return: ‘I Don’t Think I’m Ever Going to Center Him Again’
Ryan Reynolds has some things written for Deadpool's return, but it's not a standalone 'Deadpool 4' movie.

Honestly? Yea. His story is done really

I think Ryan Reynolds is cute for a little bit, but then his schtick starts to get really annoying. The second Deadpool movie was pushing the limits.

Loved the first, the jokes were getting old with 2 but still enjoyed it. I didn’t even finish watching Deadpool and Wolverine

Deadpool and Wolverine is slop but it’s entertaining. It’s like if McDonalds was a movie.

I think Jackman carried it, honestly.

He did. I couldn’t stand Reynolds.

It’s fun the first time and the novelty completely wears off the second time through. You realize you’re not actually watching a movie, but a two hour, ugly as sin vehicle for delivering as many cameos and appearances they possibly can.

That's how all movies-based-on-comicbooks are. It's like shonen anime, just give me flashy fights and the power of friendship, and i'm here for it.

Deadpool has more life. Its Ryan Reynolds that is played out. He wasn't playing Deadpool mostly himself. It gets annoying after you see his act

this must be him alluding to X-Force with some of the DP cast. If they keep Jackman and/or Dafne Keen, it’d be another easy billion+ for Marvel (but it should do well either way). Deadpool and co. can easily exist in their own R-rated corner of the MCU while the new X-Men do their thing But if Marvel wanted to go out with bang before a complete and total reboot in a decade, they should make a fifth movie with Reynolds and call it “Deadpool Kills the MCU”

Deadpool Kills the DCU (with the Squadron Supreme, aka stand-ins for DC's heroes)
15
riegspsych325 5 days ago +16
the irony that he’d likely get Affleck and Cavill for cameos, i’d laugh my ass off
16
Imjustmean 4 days ago +4
Or even have x-force as cyclops black ops team. Gives him a bit of depth as well

satanssweatycheeks 5 days ago +2
Thought x force for canned. They were going to do it.

riegspsych325 5 days ago +7
a version over at Fox was when the buyout happened, as did a version of Deadpool 3

I’m almost certain you’re right about X-Force, and I hope the MCU leans further into those sort of ensemble movies in the post-Secret Wars phase. Midnight Suns, West Coast Avengers, Young Avengers, all deserve a film (or at least a series) like Thunderbolts.

IMO Deadpool is the obvious heir to Stan Lee’s cameo in every movie.

This is a great idea

DanBarLinMar 2 days ago +1
Thank you! It honestly seems so obvious to me that I feel like I can’t take credit for the idea. Like proposing that the sky may in fact be blue. It fits who the character is in the comics and I think it would bring back a part of the audience experience that endeared fans to the infinity arc. For those reasons it will never happen, corporate said no.

> “I have some stuff kind of written, but I don’t think I am ever going to center him again,” Reynolds said, revealing Deadpool’s life as a big screen main character might be over as far as Reynolds’ iteration of the character is concerned. “He is a supporting character. He is a guy who is great in a group.”

After three movies. An origin arc and segue into a team role, he really doesn’t need a solo film. Maybe another duo. Spidey and Deadpool .
29
SpaceCaboose 4 days ago +15
I’d love to see that, but I just don’t see Marvel or Sony wanting to put the family-friendly Spider-Man in an R-rated Deadpool movie, nor would folks want to see a toned down Deadpool in a Spidey movie.
15
Cryptus_Maximus 4 days ago +15
I'd highly doubt you on the latter option. They're already putting Punisher in the newest Spidey film, and he's as h******* as it gets. Sure, Punisher owes his existence to Spider-Man so there's more precedence, but I honestly think that's neither here nor there. Casual viewers won't even know Punisher's roots like that.
15
N1cK01 4 days ago +3
Spidey/Deadpool is also a pretty iconic comic duo. So fans would want that. Just let Deadpool be Deadpool and beep every inappropriate thing he says lol. Make him complain about having to be pg. There are a lot of things you can do.
3
zenlume 4 days ago +1
Punisher is going to be in the Spider-Man movie for like 15 minutes total. Very different having him toned down for that, and toning down Deadpool for a whole movie with Spider-Man. I personally don’t think people would mind honestly, you can do a lot of fun things with a PG-13 Deadpool when he’s aware that he’s a comic book character. Just have him acknowledge that he needs to be on his best behavior or the suits will get mad at him or something.
1
Cryptus_Maximus 4 days ago +2
Doesnt matter how long he's in it really. They also made an entire pg13 deadpool cut and that was just him solo. It's honestly not a big deal to people if it means getting to jam with Spidey.

Id love to see Suicide Kings done. Deadpool always fit in well with the Marvel Knights side of comics.

Much like The Mandolorian, the character can be a glorified voice-over role and he won’t need to be on set, nor maintain that physique. Yet he can still cash the fat cheques.
21
riegspsych325 5 days ago +23
Reynolds wouldn’t miss a chance to be there on set in the suit

Tomato-Legitimate 3 days ago +3
I think it was Marvel's decision and this d***** is just pretending it's his idea.
3
whitingvo 5 days ago +6
Agree with this decision. Its similar to what they did with RDJ and Iron Man. 3 Movies told the arc of his story, then he could fill in in other movies where it makes sense.

“I have exhausted my last shreds of goodwill in this industry, and cannot risk oversaturation driving my sole remaining cash cow into the ground.“
14
Mysterious_Low_267 1 day ago +1
Why do you think he exhausted all his goodwill? He was the highest paid actor in 2024 and he has multiple projects currently going on. He is still one of the most well recognized faces and names in all of Hollywood.
1
isthisarealuser 1 day ago +2
His wife killed his goodwill tbh
2
Mysterious_Low_267 1 day ago
I think you all are being quite dramatic. If I had to guess it’s been over a decade since the average American even thought about Blake Lively. What she even do that was so controversial? I seriously doubt whatever it was is enough to kill one of the most profitable man in the history of hollywoods career.

Everyone saying he got annoying after a while. Hes f****** deadpool hes *supposed* to be!

3 is the magic number. I think we got all the dead pool we need. I'm okay with supporting character.
2
Ristar87 4 days ago +1
Well, I said in the very first movie he should replace the Stan Lee cameos in each movie and i'm by no means alone in that thought.
1
No_Earth_1378 4 days ago +1
They should use him for a hard wipe at the end of a marvel season of shitty tv. Deadpool kills the marvel universe. And then a season of Deadpool k illustrated with a different person cast as Deadpool. Passing the torch. Or get iron man to do that role.

I think he just wants the character to develop into other areas and pivot now

Since when do actors determine how a character is used? RR kinda getting too big for his britches.

Goldnglam 5 days ago +8
Much like Tony stark he's become so popular as the character it would be hard to separate them, look at how much Mackie struggled with cap 4.
8
lectroid 5 days ago
To be fair, that was mostly because the script was aggressively mediocre (honestly, it’s a tough reach to get to mediocre) and because Mackie doesn’t have Chris Evans-amounts of charisma (few people do!).

There would be no Deadpool movies without Reynolds.

Ryan Reynolds’s is a producer on these movies, and at least from a press perspective has always been the show runner, they are his passion/ego project.

I’d be down for Deadpool being the MCU Bugs Bunny who just randomly shows up on account of his time travel watch and newfound ability to summon Doctor Strange Portals.
