Imagine a country holding their police this accountable.

Imagine? Brother, this is seriously messed up. I just hope it maintains this precedence. Tax payer money should not be wasted in keeping people like them alive in life sentencing.

It costs a ton more tax payers money by time they are being put to death.  They should be punished this way, imo but let's not pretend its saving anyone money by doing it

This is conditional, at least in India. Not an expert but as far as I know the death penalty is now upheld by a High Court. The condemned can now appeal to the Supreme Court and then the Governor/President. This means the capital punishment will end up being expensive to the state IF appeals takes decades. Otherwise I dont see how looking after the condemned for life which could be 20-30 yrs or more can end up being less expensive than an execution with short term. Which i hope it does.

Its absolutely more expensive in the states, and if police are involved?  They will exhaust the appeals process, as they do here, as is their probable right.   Its been studied for decades and the cost to go through with an execution, is more costly than life imprisonment.

I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise that Indian police sexually abuse men too, but Jesus Christ.

It will be appealed in supreme court and they will enjoy life for many more years.
