An evil kidnapper is to blame.

There’s no doubt that’s true but as someone that works with mentally unwell people, it’s a bit striking how many of them become obsessed on figures in the news programs they watch regularly.

As someone who also works with mentally unwell people, it's striking how many of them become obsessed with regular people they see regularly, like busdrivers or cashiers or neighbours or people they meet at school or work. I see that a lot more than the people becoming obsessed with famous people. Of course, patient populations may vary.

This was cold. calculated and thought out almost professionally done, very unusual for the run of the mill staker / mentally obsessive profile of which tends to be attracted to high profile individuals.

Yes, but what are we going to do, live as hermits and not pursue our careers?

jenfullmoon Mar 26, 2026 +74
Given how badly women are treated when people know who they are, it sure changed my mind about wanting any kind of fame in my career.

Yes? How do you know that?

Due to it being extremely likely

The interview was so heartbreaking to watch. I can’t even imagine the pain and grief their family has been feeling 🥺💔 I just hope they can get closure at the very least through locating her mother (in whatever condition she may be in). Justice seems like a lost cause for them at this point, but I hope they may find some form of justice at the end of all this.

I am not sure it is in this case. It is a really strange one. It might just be a botched robbery that ended in a killing and they wanted to hide the evidence. If it really was connected to her I think it would have unfolded differently.

Same. I think it was a botched robbery. She is a perfect target for a robbery. Expensive home where a thrift would assume there is nice stuff in there. She lives alone (I don’t think she has a dog) and she cannot run or defend herself.

The blame is on the evil person or people who did this.

I know it seems obvious to us and I don't know much about the situation, but the woman is clearly going through a very difficult moment. There is no reason to kick this woman while she is down. My mom is from El Salvador and she told me of a relative that was once kidnapped. Their family didn't have any money so they just kept receiving pieces of her from the kidnappers until it was obvious she was dead. It isn't that uncommon in very impoverished areas, but it destroyed one of my uncles. He was never the same after and drank himself to death. So it can hurt people in places where everyone understands it's a possibility. All my grandparents died pretty early on, so I don't exactly know what she is going through, but i hope she can find peace.

It’s her mother

charliedrown Mar 26, 2026 +13
Oh shit! That's way worse. I'm an idiot, but damn guys let's just try and be decent. If it annoys you just don't pay attention to it. There are plenty of targets more worthy of your hate than this person. Thanks for the info!

Your words are very well spoken

Yes they wouldn't have targeted her otherwise

Poor thing, It's a terrible thing to think of that it's your fault. I Hope she gets tons and tons of therapy. I am sorry about her mother It does not look like it's going to turn out well

her brother worked in military intelligence

A 20-24 person task force is working on this case. This case. Yes, Nancy Guthrie was probably targeted because of Savannah's wealth and celebrity and I feel very sorry for the whole family. But there are many many families suffering WITHOUT a task force of 20-24 persons on their case. Money and fame should not be a factor in deciding who gets police resources working for them.

The kidnapping just happened and the perpetrator is still at large. They also have over 25,000 tips to go through, according to recent news reports. Would you rather they did it much more slowly with far fewer people?

A regular citizen doesn’t get 1% of the effort that has been given to this family. That’s the problem with this being headline news for the last 2 months.

WilHunting2 Mar 26, 2026 +39
How many regular citizens have their elderly parent kidnapped for ransom?
39
JohnVanVenker Mar 26, 2026 -28
I don't know but I believe it's a number greater than 1. Do you have any evidence that Nancy Guthrie is the only elderly person who has ever been kidnapped for ransom? There are other old people whose families have money.
-28
sally_says Mar 26, 2026 +17
>I don't know but I believe it's a number greater than 1 Damn, do you have a source for that?
17
WilHunting2 Mar 26, 2026 +13
Source that any other elderly parent of a rich person was kidnapped within the past 20 years in the United States

Name any other case like them then lol

I think there have been a few in recent years and the police response was strong. I think there was a case in Tennessee or Kentucky, it involved a caretaker who had been fired. Police did find both of them. Alive.

Similar shades of how much attention the Madeleine McCann case has had over the past two decades

And the sad thing is, someone may feel slighted and Savannah has no idea what the issue is! I’ve apologized to ppl for something I didn’t realize that I’d done.

I didn’t even know who this woman was before her mother disappeared?

Cholinergia Mar 26, 2026 -29
I was wondering why some random kidnapping victim was getting so much media attention.

In other news, water is wet.

Regarded_Apeman Mar 26, 2026 -60
And I wonder if Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is to blame for Savannah Guthrie's fame
-60
BlueLikeCat Mar 26, 2026 -137
I am seriously beginning to wonder if she disappeared her own mother because she needed the coverage. How incredibly asinine a thought to even articulate it out loud. SMH
-137
dormilonsita Mar 26, 2026 +52
Lol coverage?? She was about to cover the winter olympics, she did not need any more publicity. Wouldn't you hate people claiming you kidnapped your own mother while you're grieving??
52
ScurryScout Mar 26, 2026 +17
You’re seriously speculating that she killed her own mother just so she could have a good story when she quit her job? Because there’s basically 0% chance she chooses to go back to her old job after all of this, this kind of thing destroys people for life.
