Can someone ELI5 what this actually means? Does TSA still get paid?

1. Yesterday, Trump said he’d fund TSA using funds from a previous bill. It’s not technically legal, but no one will probably stop him.
2. Last night, Senate passed a bipartisan bill to fund DHS except ICE and Border Patrol. Today, the far right wing of the Republican House didn’t want to pass it, so they’re trying to pass short-term funding for all of DHS. It won’t pass the Senate, and they’ve left DC on a 2 week break.
Basically, TSA agents will likely get some paychecks next week, but we don’t know how many or how long. The rest of DHS, including parts of FEMA and the Coast Guard remain without paychecks as of now.

I think they have to stay for 5 years. Of course, the trials start soon after Trump is done. I doubt many bonuses get paid.

It's a $50k bonus paid out as $10k bonuses every year. By now some should've gotten the first bonus.

There are the ones that are smart enough to see that they’re going to get what they want long-term with budget reconciliation, and then there are the ones who will only accept Dem senators caving to their every demand because that’s what Trump wants.

The senate passed a bill for funding TSA. The house hates it for other reasons and is making its own bill. The senate will not pass that version of the bill, and is currently in recess.

They are, everywhere, but whenever they do people like you come and say it's not enough. Schumer's response was:
> We’ve been clear from Day 1: Democrats will fund critical Homeland Security functions, but we will not give a blank check to Trump’s lawless and deadly immigration militia without reforms
Seriously what do you want him to do here? They're holding the line on the DHS funding despite the pain, they're blocking the SAVE act, they're going on news and letting it be known loud and clear this is about ICE reforms and funding. What else is it you need here?
Would it satisfy you if he and Jeffries cut a WWE promo where they challenges Thune and Johnson to a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match at Summer Slam?

Since they’re on vacation I’d like to see them take their own money and time and feed and help the people not getting paid. Get out and show they actually care. Especially the ones up for re-election this year. Make it visible that republicans are evil.

I actually wish *we* (the base, us) had been doing that this entire time.
I have this pipe dream that we'd be providing support on the ground for the elected officials to hold the line. For instance, during the healthcare fight when they basically started starving people as negotiation tactic, I wanted liberals/democrats to start food drives and set up distributions for people on SNAP benefits. Start driving to rural areas every weekend and distributing food to GOP areas to highlight the GOP is trying to strip their healthcare AND their food and we're fighting for both.
That's how you win hearts and minds, instead we just yelled at officials to "hold the line" while a lot of us had absolutely no skin in the game. Then blamed them for "caving" when they realized Trump would gleefully watch people starve to death before negotiating.
We already knew TSA workers would be going without pay in order to force ICE reforms. We should be at every airport every day with food/money/assistance to show we're the side trying to help. We should all be the ones making it visible that republicans and "conservatives" are moving with malice against citizens.

In terms of optics, it’s always lose-lose for the Dems.
If they publicly call out Trump’s actions, they’re condemned for making statements instead of taking action.
And if they focus on their jobs as legislators, instead of getting in front of the cameras, they’re condemned for not making statements.

Currently no.
Trump has said that he's going to sign an executive order that will pay the TSA out of the pot that ICE has but that hasn't gone through yet and is questionable if he actually does it.

This isn't the "dEmOcRAT sHuTdOWn."
Republicans in the house just blocked a funding bill and have been nixing multiple proposals from Democrats to fund DHS agencies, including TSA, since this shutdown fight began.
Trump himself just recently rejected a bipartisan proposal to fund TSA that was sent to the White House for approval.
Mind you, this was days before Trump announced that he would be signing an order to pay TSA employees, and without any details about where these funds would come from and how long the funding would last.
Which begs the question, why the f-ck didn't Trump announce this plan SOONER!?
The most obvious answer is that this is another opportunistic PUBLICITY STUNT.
Another desperate scheme on Trump's part to curb his already declining ratings after being the primary cause of the very problem he is now conveniently eager to remedy; an effort lacking in all sincerity.
A short term and half-baked fix to an issue that he DELIBERATELY prolonged.
And for what!? Credit. That's all Trump cares about. And his mindless followers are so misinformed and slavishly pro-Trump that they actually perceive this whole political charade as some kind of achievement!
Again, Democrats have been drafting proposal after proposal to fund these separate agencies for weeks, only to be dismissed by Republicans who only care about selling a narrative.
And when Americans stopped buying that narrative, Republicans finally decided to compromise with Democrats, only to have Trump refuse their proposal.
Despite all the propaganda coming from the White House blaming Democrats for these ongoing challenges, the fault has ALWAYS rested with the Republican party and their spiteful leader. That much is CERTAIN.
Also note that any argument about a lack of funding for ICE is being argued in BAD FAITH.
Last year, Republicans provided the Trump administration with $150 billion in EXTRA funding for immigration enforcement operations and Trump's mass deportation agenda.
This was part of Trump's big ugly bill and came at the direct expense of the American people's access to health care, food assistance, and economic opportunities.
So Republicans have nothing to complain about, ICE got its funding, and Americans got their pockets picked.
Meanwhile, all Democrats are asking for is common sense reforms that are basic for any law enforcement agency.
This is apparently too much to ask of Republicans even though we've all acknowledged the impropriety, tyranny and corruption of DHS.
Kristi Noem was ousted for a REASON.
Donald Trump and his party of groveling loyalists and sycophants never cared about TSA employees, they only cared about pushing a narrative.
They demand sympathy for the same federal employees who they kept out of a paying job during the last shutdown because Democrats asked for affordable healthcare for Americans.
Also, Republicans have shown no sympathy whatsoever for the hundreds of thousands of government staff who have been laid off by this administration.
Don't believe for a second that Donald Trump and the Republican party have anyone's interests in mind but THEIR OWN.

It’s truly hilarious and yet completely unsurprising that Republicans are blaming Democrats for their dysfunction and incompetence, even when they control all 3 branches of government.

It's a bit funny to me that plenty of run of the mill neocons latched on to MAGA to save their jobs and they think they can run this dead end train through mid-terms. I think the SAVE act as horrific as it is is most likely to purge a ton of MAGA from the voting rolls. They're gerrymandering during a potential wave election when a more sensible approach would have been trying to redistrict safe seats to stave off a massive future Dem majority. And they are going nuts about TSA when the majority of frequent travelers are politically literate enough to understand who is really at fault here.
I'm hoping this will translate to an even bigger wave than we would have seen if they just took all their wins last year and hoped the economy didn't blow up in the middle of all this shit, but I wouldn't put it past Elon or someone else in the big money/big tech space to rig the votes somehow.
