Like not even put on leave or anything. The BBC doesn’t just outright sack one of their most popular hosts unless things are REALLY bad…

autumneliteRS Mar 30, 2026 +344
At least the 11th highest paying star sacked within a week of him being removed. Yeah, the evidence must be pretty dire.

Is it part of the Epstein ripple? It seems to touch a lot of people (except in the US I guess...)

Heisenberg_235 Mar 30, 2026 +39
Scott Mills is gay, and married. Considering all allegations related to Epstein etc are all about young/underage females, I’d say doubtful related to Epstein. Edit: not true re allegations being about females.
39
Reality-Umbulical Mar 30, 2026 +266
That's just not true, it's just that no one mentions the boys https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-04-21/epstein-accused-of-sexual-abuse-by-male-teen-intern-in-lawsuit

I’ll stand corrected.

Mandelson is gay aswell no?
46
Alive-Resolution7844 Mar 30, 2026 +4
Are there claims that Mandelson's criminal involvement with Epstein was sexual in nature?
4
Winston_Carbuncle Mar 30, 2026 +6
Epstein is radioactive. Any criminal association being revealed will be sayonara for public figures.

Yeah… Mandelson.

Not really. Bad criminal stuff has you suspended until charged so as not to prejudice. Whatever this is, he's probably been caught or admitted something.
45
shelllc Mar 30, 2026 +73
According to The Mirror it was about a relationship he had over a decade ago.
73

If it's in the Mirror it has to be true

It has to be both bad enough to get canned, and he’s admitted it. Otherwise he’d be suspended / under investigation and then appealing it - and his absence would just be unexpected but covered up with some vague “personal reasons” So whatever it is, there’s almost certainly rock solid evidence behind it and his very highly paid lawyers have told him he’s f**ked (legal term)
28
cinyar Mar 31, 2026 +4
proper fucked?
4
Oggie243 Mar 30, 2026 +19
It's the really bad ones they protect, because therell some falling or safeguarding oversight that implicates them. If this was a criminal offence he wouldn't be sacked off the bat as it could leave them open to claims if an investigation finds no wrong doing. It xould also be potentially prejudicial to sack rather than suspend prior to an investigation. This'll be a Jernaine Jenas level of scandal. When that broke the discourse was about the same, made a big splash because it was so sudden and conclusive. Lots of speculating on account of that. Then turned out to be inappropriately texting a colleague.
19
sheridan_lefanu Mar 30, 2026 +44
It's difficult to say, I get the impression the BBC just swings from one extreme to the other. Remember them suspending Tony Blackburn in the aftermath of Saville with, it appears, no evidence. Then as another commenter mentioned, Huw Edwards was a mess. So I reckon probably serious, but possibly just a panicky reaction.
44
TheOriginalKrampus Mar 31, 2026 +4
Did he microwave tea? Just kidding. It’s probably really horrible. So many folk with awful skeletons in their closets.
4
GamingWithBilly Mar 31, 2026 +2
"historic" relationship.  And canned instantly.  That screams some form of abusive relationship.  Like, something horrendous has come to light.
2
Kaiisim Mar 30, 2026 +4
They do now. They sack anyone for anything, because they don't want to get in trouble. Could have been fired for anything really.
4
Periodic_Disorder Mar 30, 2026 +1
Definitely some form of sexual misconduct. He's had the police called on him in the past for sexual abuse.
1
CarlySimonSays Mar 30, 2026 +2
Damnit! I have so many fond memories of listening to the Scott Mills Daily podcast when living and commuting on my own. Very disappointing.
2
AeroFX Mar 30, 2026 +277
"The Mirror also understands the allegation relates to a historic male relationship dating back more than 10 years. The 53-year-old was taken off air on his Radio 2 show last Tuesday while the BBC assessed the information. He was told his contract was terminated at the weekend, sources claim. Mills took over the flagship breakfast show from Zoe Ball in 2025."

grey_hat_uk Mar 30, 2026 +454
>historic male relationship The f*** sort of description is that. Did he get fired because Alexander liked Hephaestion too much?

No, just because Alexander *allegedly* liked Hephaestion too much.

In England you have to crack a code to be allowed to be gay, but only for a little bit
3
PLUMPUFFIN Apr 1, 2026 +3
Please please- the bbc themselves have even begun to acknowledge that this is with regards to a much much more recent accusation/implication with regards to inappropriate (likelt not quite criminal threshold, due to bbc coming out with it first) contact. This is NOT directly related to the original case from 1997-2000 broughr into investigation in late 2010's. However it implies that there have been MULTIPLE concerns in the period between 2018-2025 for this to be so sudden

It depends if he was in a position of trust over the 17 yo. In the UK the age of consent is 16 unless you are in a position of trust of that person in which case it is 18. From the BBCs perspective even if that wasn't the case it could still violate their contract and HR standards
2
TopChard1274 Mar 30, 2026 +130
*historic male relationship dating back more than 10 years.* This could sound like an age difference issue...? What else could be?
130
WesternUnusual2713 Mar 30, 2026 +73
Yeah it's gonna have to be age related or grooming or something.
73
dj4y_94 Mar 30, 2026 +25
Whatever it is you'd have to assume the BBC have some pretty ironclad proof if they've been bold enough to straight up sack someone who's worked their 25 odd years, and who was one of the more well known DJs.
25
Darnell2070 Mar 30, 2026 +14
What does historic even mean in this context and why is its use necessary?
14
Implausibilibuddy Mar 30, 2026 +27
Not recent or ongoing, but also repeat occurences. Think less of the term used in "an historic victory" and more "he had a history of drug abuse".
27
pat_earrings Mar 31, 2026 +1
Should have used the word “historical”
1
PLUMPUFFIN Apr 1, 2026 +2
The historic issue was a serious sexual offence of a child under 16 alleged to have gone oj from 1997-2000, thus the child would have had to be 13-16. It was reported in 2016 and investigated until 2019 where charges were never evidenced enough to be put to mills; whilst mills was in his 40s. Buuuut it appears the CURRENT drama is with regards to more recent inappropriate communications which were whistle blowk by a female bbc presenter in may 2025
2
ilovecottagepie Mar 30, 2026 +1
We probably shouldn't speculate on something like this. Its not right to imply someone's done something wrong when Just kidding. Here's what I reckon. He was in the Epstein files. It turned out he was Epsteins "right hand man" and has been trying to start his own Mills's Island since his buddy's downfall. Can't prove any of this but seems very possible.
1
GamingWithBilly Mar 31, 2026 +1
Either age, or someone very specifically as a conflict of interest he failed to disclose.  Like a relative of parliament, or executive at work
1
takesthebiscuit Mar 30, 2026 -16
An age difference of 60 years is inconsequential if the ages are 18 and 78
-16
TopChard1274 Mar 30, 2026 +13
I think you know very well what I meant.
13
takesthebiscuit Mar 30, 2026 -13
Yes it’s just that the law has issues with 4 year age gaps but not 50 year age gaps, depending on the starting age
-13
Implausibilibuddy Mar 30, 2026 +6
Well Scott Mills was 43 ten years ago so I really don't think it's going to be a 4 year difference causing issues.
6
then_than-man Mar 30, 2026 +38
Ugh i can't imagine this is going to be anything good. People saying they don't like him, i thought he seemed a right laugh when he was on R1 and then on R2. Didn't think he was that bad at all.
38
Consistent_Umpire443 Mar 30, 2026 +8
We had to turn him off in the work radio 2 was always our staple in the morning but he turned it into radio 1 that easiest quiz was a pain in the arse to listen to in the morning. Love you bye
8
Franksss Mar 30, 2026 +2
He was a bit of a lad with Chris Stark on R1. He became a kind of "gay best friend" on R2, which I imagine he felt more comfortable with, but I still way preferred him on R1.
2
DrunkDonut92 Mar 30, 2026 +3
Yeah that’s best way to describe it I don’t mind his radio 2 show he could play the songs he wish he could have on radio 1 but it didn’t feel the same without Chris

I’m hoping he will be replaced by someone that doesn’t irritate me of a morning. Mills wasn’t the right person to take over from Zoe Ball.

Send in the Sara cox clone!
6
ShagPrince Mar 30, 2026 +20

I thought she was bloody awful at first, but I struggled to find a breakfast show host who didn’t boil my piss and a radio station that didn’t have advertisements every 20 minutes.

Nah BBC doesn’t mind them doing it as long as they’re making them money They just don’t like it when the person gets caught cause then they have to pretend that they don’t agree with what they did lol

This is NOT about the historic offences!!!+ It has now been corrected in reports that WHILST- the BBC knew about a case of serious sexual offences against an under 16 between 1997-2000. That was investigated between 2016-2019 and not enough evidence was brought for CPS to choose to bring charges. The actual reported catalyst for this is a prominent BBC female presenter raising the alarm in May 2025 about innapropriate communications from Mills to someone. The bbc have now ADMITTED they brushed this under the rug/ignored it. It appearsssss to be another Schofield- legal but unethical and grey area crossinf of boundaries. My hunch is a relativelt recent grooming/coercion of someone of legal age, 16/17/18 getting work via a power-imbalanced relationship with Mills, within BBC. And this is thus damage control post-Schofield. Otherwise, the police would have had jurisdiction over the announcement of this news. It is definitely not JUST related to the historic accusation, it appears concerns were raised about SEPARATE allegations/incidents of late which do NOT cross the legal threshold necessarily. But the historic serious sexual offence is a bigger tagline/headline/bait. I have just spent 2 hours trying to explain this to mt boyfriend, as the media is being VERY coy and fucky with all this.

I haven't listened to radio for over 20 years- nothing but inane chatter by moronic "personality" DJs where their ego comes first and the music (what little gets played) is a distant 2nd.

Does America have a tradition of a large national radio show that most people would listen to during their drive to work of a morning?
11
Crackstacker Mar 30, 2026 +11
No, it’s more state to state. Or even different regions within states will have their own popular shows. Usually based in the bigger cities.
11
carl84 Mar 30, 2026 +17
America doesn't really have an equivalent then
17
Osiris32 Mar 30, 2026 +1
There are some regional ones that can be that way. Or at least used to be. Public Radio has Morning Edition, and that's syndicated all across the country on most PBS stations. On the west coast, the Mark and Brian show out of LA was on 21 different markets, from Portland to Honolulu to Phoenix. But you gotta remember that when you talk about that how big of an area that is. My home state of Oregon is bigger in physical size than thr entire UK, and we are only the 9th largest state.
1
MaxMouseOCX Mar 30, 2026 +2
Closest I can think for America is maybe a large talk show host being fired. Since you don't really have country wide radio personalities.

Considering how long he’s been one of the prime DJs at BBC radios 1 & 2, he will be as well known in the UK as Howard Stern, but more PG with very few scandals … until now apparently. He has headed their tentpoles for about 22 years. The bar for a scandal at the BBC is very low. Probably had a fling with a consenting 18/19 year old person working at the station. Probably. We don’t know.

I may be a bit off base because I'm not completely up on US radio other than the hip hop stuff I search out but I'd say probably someone like Angie Martinez, long running stalwart of a broadcaster who no one really vehemently dislikes.
