Someone said Tatum is the new Sidney, Chad is the new Dewey and Mindy is the Gale which is weird cause she’s suppose to be “The New Randy”. I say you kill Chad and Mindy both off in the same scene. Chad sees Mindy getting attacked by three Ghostface killers, he runs to save her but is then ambushed by a lone Ghostface, thus confirming this time, it’s a Cult of Ghostface killers who all attack at once. Imagine you have to run from 4 Ghostface killers lol that would be insane!

I don't understand her appeal to the fandom at all. In 5, she's literally joking about their friends being murdered and tells Wes that he and his mom don't matter right before they're killed. In 6, she is way more concerned with being right about who the killer is than actually being useful. And then in 7 she's trying to highjack Gale's career and her/Chad are pretty directly responsible for getting four teens murdered for no reason.
Just a baffling, unenjoyable character (but Brown looked absolutely amazing in 7 with the dreads, only redeeming quality).

Scream has entered its own flanderization era and I'm ready to hop off the fandom train.
8 movies of the same "murder mystery killer is a close friend or family member" trope is ridiculous for a franchise that refuses to pass the baton to somebody new.
At least 5-6 tried, but 7 said f*** that.
Scream is just Stab unironically.

The killer in the most recent one didn’t even really make sense. It made so little sense that it’s the first time I was able to feel confident about clocking the killer pretty early on, “it’s probably this person because it literally makes no sense and it subverts expectations.”
I mean I’m not asking for some crazy lore that has zero plot holes, I know they’re just silly empty horror movies, but I walked out kind of annoyed how lazy the setup was.

Fancy-Box198Mar 31, 2026

One of the killers was so f****** obvious. “If Stu isn’t actually alive it HAS to be this guy” and you can clock it from the moment he opens his mouth.
The other one was obvious because that person always plays a f****** psychopath.
Seven is f****** garbage and you can fix it with one of two changes. Either Stu is alive, or the Meeks twins did it. (I was CONVINCED it was them when dude got grazed AGAIN and the killer just inexplicably left him alive).
66
dreamboylnshibuyaMar 31, 2026
+13
How would making one of the Meeks twins the killer have fixed 7? They would have utterly no reason to want to don the mask and kill others, as the previous two entries have shown us they’re good people and trying to make us buy that one of the twins would just suddenly snap and kill everyone is a total jumping the shark moment.
13
Fancy-Box198Apr 1, 2026

Lifelong repeated trauma, starting with the murder of their uncle. They show up inexplicably with Gail. The kill fake outs with them surviving the bar scene because lol I guess.
You have them explain why in the climax, throw in a couple flashbacks of them with the orderly setting it up, and kill them off.
You lose that meta commentary about parasocial relationships, but that could have been a different beat in the new context.
Bonus points for it being extra surprising because it’s a returning character or characters that’s behind the mask for the first time. (Just not the one we were led to believe).
Better than what we got, IMO, and the series already jumped the shark with 6.

I clocked Ethan Embry immediately because I didn't think they'd get a big 90's actor for a sixty second role. I also clocked Anna Camp right away.
However my guess was she was doing it to help her creepy son launch his true crime career and was banging Embry to get him to help with a plan to kill him once they finished the plan. The actual reveal of why they were doing it was so stupid that I kept expecting another motive to get revealed.
I legit think Scream 8 is going to be the daughter at the college from Scream 2 and the Ghostfaces will be cafeteria workers who want revenge on Sidney for not bussing her own tray thirty years ago. That's the level they're at now.

Look deranged fan, is a good motif beyond revenge or notoriety which had been done pretty much all the way to 7. But my god was it bad though. The problem is the motif can never be seeded through as it’s always an exposition dump at the end.

The last few to me just feel like they don't quite get what the series is. They're supposed to be a bit tongue and cheek and satirical but those elements are borderline non-existent in the last two. They're pretty much completely standard slasher films with just a little winking to the audience now.

In my opinion, they can salvage Scream 7 retroactively by doing three things:
1) Bring back the sisters from 5 and 6 who befriend Sidney's daughter, forming a new trio of main characters to have multiple movies with onward.
2) Kill Sidney off in the next movie's post-credit scene. Satirize the Scream movies by opening Scream 8 straight into the actual movie without the "fake out" opening. Jump right into the trio being terrorized and at the end of the movie you cut to a post-credit where Sidney gets killed and that becomes the "fake out" moment of Scream 8. You don't get anyone dying at the start because you get a massive death at the very end. Mocking the series' creation of said trope. Scream 9 can open immediately from the trio finding Sidney dead and be rid of the fake out openings for good.
3) Take the series to a new location again and be creative with the environmental kills.
And to a lesser extent, a bonus 4th...
Bring back Stu *for real*. I'd argue most people went because they were happy to hear Lillard was back finally only to get psyched out as to why. But you can salvage the Scream 7 killer reveals by having Stu been behind them the entire time and having created a Ghostface Cult and cultivated it through online websites. Motivating new killers to become famous or seek revenge by helping them with hints.

To be fair after they booted the star of 5 and 6 out, they didn't really have the trajectory to keep going down the path they were going.

I think it’s time to take this franchise to outer space. How about a private rocket flight to a hotel space station full of rich assholes. And then we have one character who’s like a space bellhop or works for the space concierge and she’s somewhat likeable (in space!) as our protagonist. Then the space guests start getting killed, someone has to go outside the space station to fix something, oxygen leaks and they all have to move to different compartments (in space!). They’re suspicious that it’s the poor space hotel staff people doing the killings because f*** rich people (in space!), but then it turns out it’s Jeff Bezos and his wife who is killing off these rich business leaders for some business reason. But in space.
In Scream… no one can hear you space.

Jessica was upset Sidney wasn’t in 6, so she decided to go after her but after killing a few people, she realized the franchise could go on without Sidney and she planned on killing Sidney in front of Tatum to pass on that Trauma that was instilled in Sidney from Maureen. Marco met Jessica and just for some reason decided to help her and they used AI Stu and other past killers and even Dewey to try and trick Sidney and Gale into thinking Stu was back. Sidney realizes this is her life, so she needs to reach Tatum the ropes which is why both of them unload the entire clips into Jessica’s face at the end. 7 wasn’t great but I’m down for this franchise to continue as long as Neve and Courtney want it too. Just hope they give Gale more to do in the next one.

Once upon a time I really thought this series would truly stop at the trilogy mark. Scream 3 wasn't the best story in the world, but they did wrap it up nicely in the end. Fast-forward to 2010 I was surprised a 4th movie was on the way.

I liked the movie until I got to the motive. It was super weak.

Same. It also didn't help that I knew who had done it. Usually with Scream it is impossible to know for sure but this time it was very obvious.
Which still could have worked if the surprise was in the motive but that was just dumb shit.

It certainly was the weakest motive of them all. What got me was the daughter's inability to learn from her mistakes after making them MULTIPLE TIMES.

I actually liked the fact that
MASSIVE SPOILERS
The motivation was related to Sidney in a unique way. It wasn't something familial and it had nothing to do with movies but instead and undertalked about part of her life that is super important to her character. I also loved the performance in spite of how short it was. I just hated the fact that they teased Stu and it ended up having nothing to do with him. It just makes a lot of the movie feel nonsensical.

Not really, critics usually review a film based on its quality and as a piece of cinema. Audiences usually go to see something to be entertained, regardless of quality, like the first four live-action Transformers films.

Some of the kills were fun, but the killers' motivation was laughably weak. And Courtney Cox and the Meeks twins added nothing by being there, they were there just to be there.

I've been a VERY vocal proponent of killing off Gale in the opening scene. Since Scream 4. She's served her purpose thus far IMO and needs to atleast be a shocking opening scene kill.

KW only rewrote some dialogue for scream 7. Mostly stuff with sidney and tatums relationship. The rest was all Guy Busick.

Yeah I've seen that snippet but I remain skeptical about how little he claimed to do. Atleast you can argue, he failed to recognize how bad everything else was. Given he was thh director and WGA co-write, you have to assume he could have changed anything he wanted.

We're talking about a meta slasher movie franchise, but even then you get to a point where its like "come on, she can't survive this SIX times!" I really thought Wes was going all the way in Scream 4 after what happens to her during the climax.

The great irony of the Scream franchise is that it began by poking fun at the tropes of slasher movies, but the longer it went on, the more the franchise became what it mocked.
Can it possibly reach a third level of meta?

I think a really good twist which they should have gone with is making the daughter a killer . The whole idea of withholding your trauma to the point you isolate your own kids which makes them resentful and do their own research to the point the daughter becomes obsessed and starts the killings.
It could have lead to an ending of literally a ghost face Sydney couldn’t kill and just had her daughter locked away in an institution. Then sequels could be her having to deal with being the mother of a ghost face but also having some weird silence of the lambs thing where she needs to visit when another ghost face comes along . Teaming up with a ghost face to kill a ghost face.

I feel like that would just be treading water after Scream 4 had her niece be Ghostface.
And they didn't have the guts to follow through on that either, with Wes Craven's original plan for 5.

After the firing of Melissa I’m just not interested in this franchise anymore. If she had opted not to return or they wrote her out for some other reason, fine, I’m not a superfan or anything, but the very ugly political nature of her firing is a huge turnoff and disrespectful to the genuinely thoughtful political valence in a lot of Wes Craven’s films. Let this series die. It had its run, but it’s over.

This is insane. Mixed thoughts on Scream 3 aside, every film in the series always had somewhere between a positive reception to absolute praise. The movies always found something fun or different enough to do to give a reason for keeping the franchise going.
Scream 7 does not have a lot of fans raving about it, nothing about it felt fresh, and it is the worst reviewed movie in the franchise by a clear MILE. So the fact that Scream 7 is the highest grossing movie in the entire series means that we just sent Paramount a really bad message.
