Scrubs 2.0

Posted by Hamonwry

I liked Scrubs well enough. I really like Scrubs 2026. Dr.Cox calling JD, Doctor Nurse Jackie, is a highlight. It may be nostalgia and sentiment,

I was going to totally avoid the reboot because early Scrubs was my favourite. I’m so glad I’ve tried it because it feels so spot on to the original. I guess if Bill Lawrence is involved, I should just watch.

It's pretty great! But I will watch anything Bill Lawrence touches.

bill lawrence has this weird talent for making shows that just work, even when they shouldn't on paper. ted lasso could have been terrible but somehow he made it perfect, and now he's doing it again with the scrubs reboot.

And Shrinking and Rooster and Bad Monkey. He's just genius.

This is Spin City erasure and I won’t stand for it.

Nope! Spin city was amazing! I was just naming currently running shows.

Rooster is Bill Lawrence? Now I know what I’m watching this afternoon

Yup, it is Bill Lawrence.

He consistently knows how to hit emotions while weaving comedy into tight storylines. He’s a masterclass at comedy just as Sorkin is at drama.

It's actually a pretty decent continuation. The hospital itself (and it's then huge cast of secondary characters) doesn't seem quite as vibrant and well realised though. I just started watching the new Malcolm in the Middle show too and that's great also. Well worth a look if you were a fan.

They literally had to build the hospital on a sound stage in Vancouver because the original hospital was demolished. Architectural Digest has a great set tour with the main three cast members. To give an idea, the hospital entrance that opens into the long hallway is a real entrance, but the hallway is a 3D matte painting that is just a wall. That's why it feels a little off. I don't mind it, but it's pretty cool to see all the visual tricks they did make it seems as close to the original as possible.

Yeah it doesn't have the deep sense of a cast of characters from the later seasons nor the stylized/surreal vibe from the first seasons. Also, I feel like since the divorced JD and Elliot and Carla isn't around much Elliot just kinda feels like an ancillary character. Like they keep giving her plotlines that could have been anyone, rather than being specific feeling to her. Reconciliation with Cox was top notch though.

Exactly. So many iconic secondary and tertiary characters in those later seasons. What's up with Carla? She's barely in it.

She's also in "High Potential" so I doubt she was able to schedule a ton this season.

Ah ok. I haven't seen that. Didn't think she was in much else.👍🏻

To be fair that huge cast was built up slowly over time, as bit characters sorta got rolled into being recurring jokes and then full blown characters. It will probably be a bit before the new series to hit that stride

Yeah, lacking polish and I'm sure money. But still enjoying it very much.

Yeah, it's a bit bittersweet. We're all so old now.😂😞

It is a good continuation.

I haven’t laughed more frequently than I have watching it. So good

I watched so much scrubs in the summer of 2007 that I started having JD monologues.

I haven't enjoyed it at all and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with the super positive reaction. It's ok not awful in my opinion, but it's on par with season 9 in my book. I'm not even surprised that people like it just that virtually everyone seems to love it.

People love it because it feels like a continuation of seasons 1-8. The same feel, quality and depths the show always had. Something I’d expect to be cemented even more going forward now that it’s proved itself.

I think its missing the janitor in a big way. the original show was so much better and had a good ending, so it feels c**** to keep rebooting it over and over.

Is “The Todd “ still around ? Or did the GenZ cancel police find him too “problematic” for the remake ?

marmosetohmarmoset Apr 11, 2026 +9
Both haha. He’s around, and him being extremely problematic is commented on.

I want to know what's going to happen with him and the harpist that J.D. set him up with.

He’s still around, just not as much. He’s still pretty much the Todd.

coatimundos Apr 11, 2026 +4
He’s in most episodes still. Reboot five!

“Doctor Nurse Jackie” feels exactly like something Cox would say while somehow aging 0.5 years. Maybe revisit a couple classic episodes and see if the new season still hits the same?

Probably
