Just binged the full 8 episodes in one sitting; thoroughly enjoyed. I haven’t seen any posts yet about it yet, and curious to see if others loved it as much as I did.
No spoilers, but I think we’re really well situated for Season 2, and I hope we get it asap.
I just want Dan Levy to succeed. I think there is at least one more legendary comedy series yet to come with him in it, but I think it does have to be a perfect storm of co-cast and show style to get it done. Hell, I would watch another show or movie with him and Annie Murphy together just because they absolutely killed it

I do too. I would love for him to leave behind a legacy.
I'm under the impression that he doesn't really want to do comedies anymore, which I think is a bit of a shame, but can also understand. I suppose dramedies such as these are a happy medium - he can use some of his humor while also exploring darker themes.
FWIW, I liked it, but I don't think I'm in love with it. I'll have to go and give it a proper rewatch to decide for sure. In any case, first seasons are always a little rough, because the writers are only just figuring out who the characters are and all that; I'm eager to see where it goes from here.

Yeah. Look at Schitt's Creek; the first season was much different from the subsequent ones (although season two started off pretty much the same). It might be the same with Big Mistakes. Who knows what they have in mind?

I am now re-watching to examine what I missed due to the ending. I remember not being sure I could handle Moira Rose's screeching in Schitt's Creek, but there was phenomenal and realistic character and narrative development in that show. Lots of promise here with Big Mistakes. Cannot wait for Season 2.

Laurie Metcalf is a legend and I’m looking forward to seeing them together. Metcalf’s character’s coming in a bit strong as of ep 2; *every* line can’t be a snarky retort. I hope they tone it down a bit because she’s so talented and friggen hilarious. Levy’s already made me laugh a few times and it’s rare that I lol at a show.

Oh you have to keep going! Time commitment is minimal. I loved Schitt's Creek, but not at the beginning. Now it is in top ten of comedies for me. It was same with this. First few episodes I couldn't stand any character (except maybe Levy's). But like Schitt's, when you give over to the ridiculous it is really funny. I rewatched episodes 7 & 8 immediately after finishing series, as I knew I would catch more and decided I really didn't want it to end!

Yeah, it felt a little forced at first, but when you’re not looking at the bigger picture, sometimes you can’t really tell. You have to let it get its legs sometimes. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. It’s not Schitt’s Creek. It’s not supposed to be. I know everyone’s raving about Laurie Metcalf’s performance, but I found her obnoxious and overdone. Too loud I had to turn down the volume on my TV every time she was speaking/shouting, and it seems like a character she’s played before. Isn’t she always the obnoxious loudmouth?

She is annoying me but that's because I know two actual women like her, lol. I love Laurie Metcalf, and I do think she's a tiny bit much in this, but I am still really enjoying her characterization - especially in contrast with how bland the father's actor is. I also think that the overbearing and passive-aggressivene bullcrap the mother vomits everywhere would, in reality, absolutely result in the two emotionally stunted messes that are her two younger children.

The necklace difficulty was way too contrived and lazy. Either put a little more effort into writing, or make it something more credible like a stuck ring.
The inability to remove a necklace was like an infomercial overplaying how difficult it is to slice an onion

I had to turn it off once they told the Turkish guy that the necklace was on the grandma they just buried and acted like there was no way to get it back. The “mistake” could’ve been solved multiple times by the end of episode one but i guess taking the necklace off their grandma and giving it back to the Turkish guy is mission impossible for them. The show was annoying and boring. 0/10
10
mafaldajuniorApr 12, 2026
+6
Ikr? Extremely incompetent bunch of people. The grandma wasn't even fully buried yet at that point. All they had to do was wait until everyone had left, tell the cemetary staff they needed a moment, lift the coffin back up and take the necklace. But sure, let the gangster take you to a second location and then dig a grave up instead why don't you. Not to mention how easily the guy could have removed the necklace at the church if he had just turned it. Urgh.
6
drinkmoarwaterrApr 14, 2026

Fair enough if you don’t like the show, but their incompetence is one of the main points of the show. The show also opens up a lot after that whole necklace thing. And honestly, if everything was solved immediately like you’re saying, then there wouldn’t be a story to tell lol.

I’m so irritated with this first episode I just finished. Like why didn’t he just get the necklace quickly in the funeral home. Or jump in the grave. Or tell the bad guy where the necklace is instead of them both just saying “we don’t have it”. I’m only going to continue watching because I love Dan Levy
14
blah191Apr 12, 2026
+7
Things like him retrieving the necklace make it hard for me to watch things like this. That should’ve been simple yet they wouldn’t allow him to do it in order for the plot to happen. If something as flimsy as that is what drives the plot forward then I can’t suspend disbelief. Actually, the necklace alone doesn’t seem like enough to inspire all this to happen in the first place. If anything he’d just hold them at gunpoint for the cost of the necklace.
I just finished episode 1 and it’s not looking like something ima be able to watch. I’ll try episode 2 but I don’t have much faith. The gangster, however, is very nice to look at lol.
Oh, final complaint: I heard the himbo type boyfriend of the sister wants to be on heated rivalry and I do NOT support that idea lol. Ok I’m done now, I promise.

Surprised to see I'm in the minority, but I absolutely loved this series! Made me laugh out loud so many times and I loved the dynamic between the family members and found things I could relate to in Nicky and Morgan. Perhaps that says more about me than anything else! 🙈🤣 A lot of people are saying that the plot doesn't make sense and that there is too much shouting. I come from a shouty family so that just seemed realistic to me and I have to confess, I don't watch a lot of gangster stuff and struggle to follow complicated plots in those kinds of series/films, so maybe the inconsistencies didn't stand out to me 🤷 All I can say is I loved the characters and the ridiculousness of their situation and I can't wait for season 2! I do think perhaps this appeals more to British humour (interested to see if others agree). As a Brit, I do enjoy the cringe factor that is key to so many British comedies (think Peep Show, Derry Girls, the Inbetweeners etc). I know a lot of Americans particularly struggle with that level of cringe, so many potentially struggle with this too 🙈 I have heard a lot of Americans describe Peep Show as uncomfortably cringy 🤣

I started watching it because of the Turkish actor Boran Kuzum. I think this is the first time I’ve seen a Turkish actor in a major role in an American series. I really liked his performance, there are some little moments and gestures only a Turk would fully get. Dan Levy, Laurie Metcalf and other actors are great too, but honestly I didn’t enjoy the show that much. Some things just don’t make sense. I’ll probably still finish it though.

Yusuf kisses Laurie Metcalf’s hand and touches it to his forehead at the funeral. We do this for elderly people, though I don’t know if it exists in other countries. Also, the name of his girlfriend in the series—the one he texts who is in Istanbul—is Yasemin. In real life, he was also linked to a girl named Yasemin. In fact, in that scene, he has a Yasemin tattoo on his arm.

I don't know; I think the constant screaming of the miscommunication is a schtick gone too far. I had to stop after 3 episodes because I can't handle every bit of dialogue being based in yelling at each other. I'll keep watching. I'm invested, but binging the whole thing is not happening. The headache set in.

This is a mess, not an enjoyable watch. Where is the smart writing?? This is just chaos for chaos sake, with so little narrative cohesion. Things just happen for the sake of the plot, I still have such little feel for who these characters actually are as they solely exist to serve the storylines!

I really enjoyed it! The first couple eps take a bit to figure out what the stakes and the world is gonna look like. I generally watch shows that I can binge all the seasons so I think it’s a little different watching something as it comes out. But I really enjoy Dan Levy, and also Erin Levy (who is not related to him) is a writer on the show as well and she worked on Mad Men as a writer for a long time I believe. Any of these types of crime shows require some suspension of disbelief and having fun with it I think, so it doesn’t feel too stressful! Not every show can be Breaking Bad or The Wire, but I had a fun time, quite a few laughs, and I really enjoyed the whole cast.

The final twist was decent, but the entire first half of the season was unbelievably poor writing and some of the characters (lookin' at you, Morgan) were absolutely insufferable, and not in a "bad guy you still root for" kind of way. That said, I would consider the watching (or at least starting) a second season because I love Dan Levy and have faith in him, and because the ending twist has way more potential than the idiotic necklace plot they started this season with. Lots of shows stumble through their first season. I would give this a second chance if it comes back.

Nope. Not funny. Stupid plot. Uninteresting characters. I see others agree. The poor acting and weak writing were hard to watch. Could not get into the story. Also agree about all the unnecessary yelling and terrible background music.
Honestly, Dan Levy just isn't a very good actor. He brings nothing to this train wreck. And I am surprised Laurie Metcalf signed off on this.Gave up after the first 15 minutes

Very annoying, unlikeable and thoroughly irritating characters. I gave up after episode 2, and I LOVE Dan and Schttts Creak. So no offence.
Watching siblings fight a lot is annoying u less it’s funny and this wasn’t really. It felt uncomfortable
And the necklace—why couldn’t they just take it off the dead grandma? Why? She was right there.
I know it’s meant to be funny, but when you’re sitting there thinking, “Just take the f****** necklace—there’s a man with a gun after you,” it stops being amusing and just becomes irritating. It’s not realistic, which would be fine, except the setting is clearly meant to be.
Anyway. Ugh. Love you Dan X

They literally don't bury the body until the family is gone, and sometimes it can take up to a few hours. All they would have had to do is turn around and go to the casket after the family left and get it. And he could have sued the people away. He could have also went to the morgue and asked to see his grandmother One Last Time or to say a prayer for her. Show over. Makes me not even want to watch it because how stupid this shit is and how fast the necklace would have been given back.

Theres tons of possibility here. I feel like the script was rushed. Im all into the showing of family chaos and dynamics however they need to focus less on yelling and more on good writing to convey that. Metcalf just became annoying after a while. The two sisters are miscast and unlikeable. Levy missed a chance to make the gangsters funny. None of those scenes were funny. Levy doesn't do his best acting instead comes across as a nervous Nelly which gets boring after a while. That said, I enjoyed the twist at the end. Love the premise but hoping Levy shows us what he can do in 2nd season!

I’m on episode 2, and I’m throwing in the towel.
I’m not sure how with millions of women vying to be a star in Hollywood the casting directors landed on Taylor Ortega. As Morgan, she’s unpleasant in every way and reminds me of someone mentally ill and homeless who would corner you in a store, yelling, while her off leash Pit Bull took a shit.
I can’t stand it in the first place when comedies do the now tired trope of weirdly obsessed love interests whose every millisecond of screen time is them obsequiously simpering to their partner’s disinterested/grossed out face, but it’s even worse when the character in question is like a dark charmless void of anti-charisma.
Dan Levy, who I normally love, is wholly unbelievable as a Pastor, and Laurie Metcalf is a pro at being greatly funny at a level 6 but is though either poor direction or her own acting choices cranking it to a hysteria-laden screeching 11.
Want a great lighthearted comedy about siblings? Watch *The Other Two*- not only does it have hilarious family dynamics but also a sharp, humorous look at show business.

I really liked it as a ‘this is just something I can binge without much effort’ way. Levy and Ortega are great in it and look great too- great stylists.
Is it going to win awards or change lives, no. But it is a good watch. Be interesting to see how they develop season two because although it’s a great twist I’m not sure how interesting it will be.

Just watched first episode and feel giving a more accurate, locational answer than "We don't have it" towards the end of first episode would probably have led to a much faster conclusion and fewer of the hi-jinks and catastrophes which I expect will now follow.

I love Dan Levy and started watching only for him...I barely got through the first episode, and I couldn't get through the second one at all. Morgan is so severely unlikeable, it's such a difficult watch. They all seem like caricatures of characters "the older sister who's mom's favourite and super tight strung, the youngest sister who is a mess and can't take accountability....I really wish it was more fleshed out.

I saw a bad review this morning for it and having seen the first two episodes, the critic is an idiot. His big beef was that a comedy wasn’t believable.
4
SnooHobbies4568Apr 12, 2026
+4
If by "wasn't believable" that critic means that the show didn't feel natural, I entirely agree. I couldn't finish the first episode. The interactions didn't flow, the pace felt off, and the characters had no chemistry. The pilot is supposed to charm you and hook you in. Instead I felt like everyone was having an awkward and uncomfortable time, trying to force comedy. I felt like I was watching acting, not a story unfolding. Comedy works best when you believe in the chemistry of the characters and where those characters are able to immerse you in their world. That didn't happen for me.

I love Dan Levy, but this? This was hard. And so frustrating to watch. No reasonable human would make the choices that they did. I had to rage watch it just to get through it.
One thing that did make it a *little* more tolerable was the realization that he and Morgan’s characters are essentially David and Alexis’s character from Schitt’s Creek. I just had to pretend that that they were in a comedy satire…and not whatever this show is supposed to be…and it made it less frustrating!

On ep. 2. it's okay. confused by a lot of scenes . sorta half watching it. didn't realize this was the show dan levy and rachel sennott created. but now i can only see the actress who plays morgan doing her best sennott playing morgan if that makes sense.
scenes I was confused by:
>!why the slide show showed their grandma with all those injuries implying she was getting abused?!<
>!in ep. 1 when the mom says something about dan levy character being the oldest then his character replies that morgan is technically the oldest and the mom replies they don't talk about the adoption. confused because dan's character is obviously older than morgan.!<
>!is the mom running for office or something? oh this was actually just answered in the show, just had to get to ep. 3 unless i missed it in ep. 1!<
>!also is the type A campaign manager also related to the family but does not interact with the other siblings? !<

I just finished watching it. I think I can answer some of these questions.
The grandma had dementia and was in a nursing home/in patient hospice. It's pretty common for them to take pictures of injuries and pressure sores to document it and inform the family for liability reasons. Not all places take pictures, but they're required to document it and inform the family ASAP. So, at her wake they did the slide show and accidentally showed those pictures instead of the pictures they wanted to show to celebrate her life.
When Nicky said Morgan was technically the oldest he was making a snide comment about him being adopted. Since he's not biologically her son Morgan is technically the oldest.
Yeah, she decided to run for major because that guy already running was a d***** and she wanted to experience some power in her life.
They do show that none of the three siblings were close, Morgan and Nicky started suddenly seeming like best friends (because they were forced into a crime ring) so the youngest sister threw herself into the mom's campaign. In the last episode she kind of confronts them about it.
