Friendly fire seemed to be the most likely scenario based on the immediate video releases. You had a bunch of agents in a tight area shooting at the guy running full speed, and the eventual reports concluded that he was unscathed. That volley of bullets didn't just disappear after not hitting the guy.

Yup, been calling that out since Trump posted the video and was confused when I heard someone said the SS guy was shot with buckshot in the chest and didn't get hurt. I figured it was just more of their bs as you can see the agent aim and seemingly shoot, then guy goes down across the hall sliding down the wall and someone helps drag him off. Its still amazing there was 3-4 shots at Cole and not one hit him lol

At the time I did think it was weird that an assassin got into the event and fired multiple shots without hurting anyone.

You can see an agent fire into a cluster of agents as the alleged would-be assassin runs by in the [CCTV footage](https://youtu.be/YegB31JtW38?si=mae593U9YiqDjVMn). An agent on the bottom left draws and fires and an agent in the top left collapses, gets up, and collapses again as the group of agents scatters. "At approximately 8:40 p.m., ALLEN approached a security checkpoint on the Terrace Level of the hotel leading to the location of the dinner. ALLEN approached and ran through the magnetometer holding a long gun. As he did so, U.S. Secret Service personnel assigned to the checkpoint heard a loud gunshot. U.S. Secret Service Officer V.G. was shot once in the chest; Officer V.G. was wearing a ballistic vest at the time. 14. Officer V.G. drew his service weapon and fired multiple times at ALLEN, who fell to the ground and suffered minor injuries but was not shot. ALLEN was subsequently arrested. 15. At the time of his arrest, ALLEN was in possession of a 12-gauge pump action shotgun and a Rock Island Armory 1911 .38 caliber pistol on his person."
This is from his arraignment. So yes - he was armed. Not clear I guess if he shot anyone or discharged his gun.

The biggest crime here is a .38 caliber 1911
73
Aghast_CornichonApr 28, 2026

What the what ?
Non-gun-nerds: the Colt model 1911 is the US Army pistol you see in most WWII films. Big, sturdy, and famously almost always chambered for .45 ACP cartridges. Modern variants can also be chambered in 9mm, 10mm, and .40 S&W.
If you describe a handgun as a "thirty-eight", an average firearms-conversant person will assume you're talking about .38 Special, a rimmed centerfire cartridge for revolvers. It would be very, very unusual for a modern 1911 style pistol to be chambered for 38 ACP or 38 Super, both of which have been out of style for a century.
Officer V.G. can be forgiven for missing all of his shots after being booped in the vest by somebody.

They “disappeared”. Apparently that happens to bullets specifically in hotels. Or so I’ve heard…

Nowhere. He was:
- unarmed
- not on the same floor
- half a dozen security checkpoints away.

So more of a "man" than a "gunman"

White House correspondent came out and LITERALLY said, “sometimes when shots are fired in a hotel building they simply disappear and you’ll never find it. There’s no SCIENCE behind it.”
Guess crime scene forensic science is just fake news.

Of course he was. The assailant couldn't get a shot off running as fast as he was. The SS service shooting at him shot one of their own guys.

He was. This guy was running way to fast to be able to pull his gun out and shoot at anyone. And you could hear the agents shouting crossfire after they all started shooting

So...they started shooting, missed the assassin entirely and shot one of themselves.
Sounds pretty accurate for this administration.

So the dude just ran in there basically and did nothing. This seems pretty strange. The coordinated media response immediately and Trump's DOJ referencing it AND the media coordination AND Fetterman's DINO ass in the court filing today is all so weird. Of course they'll use a crisis... And seeing how quickly they have moved to use each one so far, and how they wrap their whole politics around such crisis moments, it's just very concerning to see yet another unusual event islike this immediately rushed as a justification for things they wanted to do already.
Edit: if his manifesto is authentic and he did go in armed, that is admittedly definitely more than "doing nothing," security apparently got to him pretty fast. But they sure don't waste a news cycle to push the agenda.

I just see this as continuing this administration's pattern of lying about shit to make it seem more serious, for no goddamn reason. See: Was Trump shot in the ear or did he get hit with debris? Does it actually f****** matter? No, but they will lie and ignore contradictory evidence because he somehow *matters* how close Trump was to getting capped and they want their narrative of him being grazed by it.
Did the assailant fire his weapon? Yes, of course he did. Why are you asking if he didn't? He did, look at all the bullets in the Kevlar. Who's bullets? I don't know, I'm not an expert. Trust me though he fired his weapon. Antifa nearly got us again.
Did that cop actually die after being hit in the head with a fire extinguisher? No, DEFINITELY not, the autopsy says he just died. Stop looking into it, nobody died. We didn't do anything wrong, everything is fine, stop asking, it was a peaceful protest, shut up about it already. We gotta do something about those cement milkshakes and chemical substances they are throwing at us. Stop asking if those were real we said they were.

I know they have had their share of scandals even before the Trump administration but I do wonder if this is another symptom of the overall incompetence and mismanagement of this admin.
I could certainly see how they might be losing some of their better folks, particularly if they remember the previous 4 years. Or all the ones who aren't yesmen/supporters aren't put on his detail.
Or just the typical ignoring their advice and warnings and forcing them into a situation they said was bad.

Just to give something to think about. At least 50% of the Secret Service is comprised of newer recruits. The old guard has quietly been moved to desk jobs. Many of the newer on site members are young and fresh out of the military. Take of that what you will.

Reminder that every secret service agent that went to go pick up Pence during the 1/6 riots deleted their phones and the secret service purged their messages from their own server.

Pence didn't stay in the Capitol out of a sense of duty, he literally thought the USSS guys from trumps detail were going to assassinate him, so he refused to get in the car.
And yeah, considering its highly unusual if not completely unprecedented for the POTUSs detail to break off from guarding him during a national emergency to pick up literally anyone else, let alone someone with their own security detail, and trumps detail degaussing and destroying their phones, and scrubbing all logs and records of that day and the lead up, seems like Pence may have been right.

Between this and the fact that some dipshit managed to get through the sweep and multiple security checks manned by the agency who’s only job is to protect the president, I’m starting to think the Secret Service was purged by the DOGE cuts last year. What we’re left with is a bunch of idiots who think COD is a valid training program.

cops shoot each other more often than they get shot by criminals but it's almost always blamed on someone else. Remember that case a few years back where a bunch of idiots did a raid on a woman's house, shot one of their own then charged her with murder?

I don't even think 5% of ss agents are on presidential protective duty
Edit: I'm wrong, about 8-9% of total agents are on current presidential detail which is estimated at 300. Former presidents typically have 90-100 agents. Somewhere between 3200-3600 total agents.

Honestly it's crazy how wrong the initial reporting was despite the fact that every mainstream news outlet was like 50ft away from where it happened. Everyone ran with the story that the shooter was killed after firing shots. Turns out, he wasn't even shot, he didn't shoot, and he was taken alive with minor injuries. I feel crazy that no one is talking about the journalistic malpractice going on here and how fast they pumped out a story without checking basic details

Hence why the suspect was only charged with “discharging a firearm”, because if he actually hit someone it would’ve been attempted murder.
