They absolutely do it on purpose for clicks. Just like whenever there is a headline like "Trump, 79, suffers..." and we all pray it's a heart attack, but then it's just "...in polls with Latino voters"

I also thought for a minute that Fetterman was telling Trump to step down because he no longer represents his voters and I almost did a somersault. They definitely write headlines like this purposefully for clicks. It’s the same reason they’ve been putting Trumps age in every f****** headline. “Trump, 79, blah blah”. It’s because a headline is usually written in that format after someone famous dies. Click click click. It seems like that strategy is being used less now though.

It sucks because I don't think he's evil, MAGA. I genuinely, and without meaning to be insulting, think he suffered a mental change due to his brain health that changed his outlook and thus his political leanings, and he truly does no longer represent the people that got him elected.
I wish him good health but also, f*** him for being so performatively contrarian to liberal causes. He's got to go.
edit: I admit I read the comments before the very short essay this link has. The final line really sums it up well.

The stress that one should *have* to endure as a Rep or a Senator precludes stroking out. If you have a stroke, you need to take a break, work on getting your faculties back full time, along with getting extensive therapy, usually.

His staffers have, there was a journalist who did a write up on it. He became a lot more irrational and emotional and impulsive. I hear you. But I also dislike this line of reasoning. I think of myself and how my brain can come up with all sorts of stupid ideas, and the "real me" is the filtered version. Not every idea my brain comes up with is something that I like. *I* am the sum of my impulses and filters. One of my great fears is that I'll have a stroke or some other brain damage that kills off one or more of my carefully curated filters and suddenly I'm saying or doing shit that *I* wouldn't want to do. And then people saying "ah, that's the *real* needlestack!" No! The whole me was the real me! Now you're getting a brain firing on one cylinder -- of course it's going to suck!

My mom went through a lot of mini-strokes and a full-on stroke. Every time her personality would change, sometimes dramatically. Like to the point of not caring about anything. Then the next mini stroke kicked her back to caring. How she lasted as long as she did, I don’t know.
But my point is that Fetterman could absolutely have been changed that dramatically by the stroke. And he could still think he’s perfectly fine and able to do his job.

I’m really tired of reading this take. Ya he had a stroke but strokes don’t usually completely overhaul your personality, ethos, and values. Fetterman was always bad and a lot of people tried to warn that he was, above all, an opportunist and in it for himself first. But everyone went “hurrr he wears hoodies I like him,” including Listnook - so here we are.
I hope people learn a lesson from this. The left is not immune to making bad choices in who they elect because they aren’t willing to look past their first impression of how a person looks and talks and actually do some research to see what they would be electing.
6
RaisonDetritusMar 30, 2026

It depends on what part of the brain the stroke occurred in. Not every part of the brain is responsible for personality and decision making. I’m not privy to Fetterman’s medical information, so I don’t feel comfortable talking about him specifically.
What I think you have right is that it’s important to look at the pre- and post-morbid personalities to see what changes can be attributed to strokes. However, I want to emphasize that certain kinds of strokes really can change people in shockingly drastic ways.

Opinion letter from the posted article part 1:
"Dear Sen. John Fetterman,
I first heard about you years ago when my son worked in Braddock at Fossil Free Fuels converting cars to run on waste vegetable oil. My son drove me around Braddock, showed me what you were doing for the community. I saw the store that your wife started there for those in need. That’s when you captured my heart.
Your commitment to the town of Braddock was nothing short of inspirational. You were representing the values of the people in your community and in our state. So, in all the subsequent elections, you’ve always had my vote.
I was so saddened to hear of your health struggles and searched the press to find news of your well-being. Having had a brush with death myself, I know it changes you. It puts life in perspective. Sharpens the focus on what’s important. But as a presence in the government, I no longer recognize you.
I wonder if your stroke left you without the will to fight. Perhaps it underscored the need for honesty and decency and extending a hand to the other side. Whatever the effect, I now see a man who in his decency is bringing a pen knife to an AK-47 fight."

Conclusion:
"I used to believe that our failure as a country was a failure in our ability to communicate and compromise with one another to reach an understanding. It’s only over time that I’ve become aware of how Citizens United corrupted our politics and skewed entire elections to represent monied interests. But we currently have in power such a group of corrupt individuals that the rules of engagement have changed.
We are in a desperate fight for our freedom, our beliefs, and the security of our future. So, I ask, are you up to the task?
Even though I feel I know you, I don’t really. But I know you do not represent my beliefs in the Senate any longer nor are you representing the beliefs of the majority of those people who voted for you in Pennsylvania. I implore you to step down.
I believe your talents will be called to serve the community and people you have served so well in the past. But your current actions in the Senate have betrayed me and the majority of Pennsylvanians who voted for you. We elect our leaders to represent our interests. I hope you do the right thing and resign.
I submit this to you with all respect and concern. I’ve deeply cared about your mission in the past, but I do not recognize your position any longer, and you do little to articulate it to your constituents.
Please do the right thing and represent the values of those of us who voted for you, or step down."

It used to be normal to disagree with your party occasionally. While dissent is no longer allowed in either party to the extent it used to be, it is still more allowed among Demoncrats. As a result, there are always Democrats who you can choose to blame for not being pure enough, especially in comparison to Repiblicans.
Through 2024, Fetterman voted with the Democrats on 85% of 'crucial' votes. Since Trump was reelected that has dropped to 73%.
These aren't villains, they are just politicians that still think that negotiation is possible.
If you turn back time to something like 2015 you'll find that such a voting record would be somewhat typical, and he would have lots of company with something like 10+ Dems even more likely to vote against the party.

Fetterman is a huge disappointment. I was behind him from the start, I defended him after the stroke, etc. But he's been a big let down and I'd vote against him in a primary if I could (not a registered dem, so I can't). That said, I'd rather have him over Oz.

why not register Dem for the primary then switch back for the general? it's annoying and i shouldn't have to do it but i will, until this state gets its shit together and starts having normal open primaries

He represents Israel, not American or American citizens. How many of you have a flag of the US, the country you're living in, in your house ? And how many of you have a flag of Israel at the ready in your house so that you can brandish on your roof when protesters are on your street protesting against you and your support of Israeli aggression ? Why is nobody mentioning the fact that nearly every single he's been saying and doing for the past 2 years have been in favor of Israel.

I worked on his campaign and now I’m actually thinking about primary him to take his job except I plan on running for president and I plan on winning so I might just go after Mike Kelly’s job in Congress in Pennsylvania to give people some actual representation
What does everybody think do you think I should or do you think we should just fantasize that someday everything is just gonna be magically fixed while all the MAGA sit here and screw us all in the ass and steal every penny we have

Based on what I understand about Fetterman, the only things that motivate him at this point are things that end in blood being spilled.
Supporting Israel, supporting war with Iran, supporting ICE beating people up, supporting Ukraine against Russia, he's super energized on those topics, but apparently when it comes to anything else, he just kind of loses all desire and motivation, like a depressed man with no thoughts.
His aides all resigned cause he just blindsides them with snuff films of Russian mercenaries committing atrocities in the world, and the only time he ever has light in his eyes at this point is when he is on Fox News hyping up the IDF. Its a damn shame given he has proven he once had motivation and interest in other things.
We can argue that his stroke made him conservative, but its more akin to his stroke made the part of his brain that sees joy in violence the only part that is working. It just so happens that being pro "I want violence to happen" aligns him a lot with the conservative cause. Also, it made him a traitor to PA voters who voted for him cause all this violence doesnt help PA at all, but that's all he cares about now
"Loneliest Democrat in the Senate" cause he became Holden Bloodfest...

i’m not from pennsylvania nor do i know a ton about fetterman but i just skimmed his wikipedia and he has missed 18% of votes (the most of any senator) and apparently consistently takes mondays and thursdays off. outside of any political position, that’s just a failure to his state. any reasonable business would fire someone who only worked 3 days a week and only met 80% of their deadlines

That really is true. If he is in any way honest he has to respect that the people who elected him no longer desire his services and the people who voted against him are celebrating that he's there. He can simply blame it on his stroke, depression and heart issues. Or maybe he'll just tip over.
