DHS has so much money, and so many agents, that they're able to send ICE agents to airports to "help" with security and screenings. But...they need MORE funding?

The GOP has 4D chess’d their way into causing and getting all the blame for a shutdown the Democrats started. I’ll take the win.

>getting all the blame From people actually paying attention* Fox, et al. will "both sides" the shit out of it and outright lie to their viewers about the cause. This will still be a Dem issue for their cult

Democrats haven't started shit, this is the magic of declaring a broad, sweeping, memorandum Republicans get to own their shit, the same is happening in Texas, 30 years of pointing the finger while being the only person to blame, shit has to stop working on their supporters.

Not really. The senate democrats are able to use their power as minority to use a filibuster. Republicans do this too. They used their 60 vote threshold to deny funding, creating a partial shutdown. This is the democrats doing this. They are doing it because liberal voters are demanding reforms to ICE and Border Patrols. Then, as the chamber is supposed to function, they passed a funding bill to open the government. And now it’s not even republicans in the house prolonging the shutdown, but just one, Mike Johnson.

I understand the reality of their position, the administration however has claimed this Supreme power despite not actually getting the majority of the vote, ever.

But in this case, what’s happening is democrats started this shutdown. Then republicans capitulated and decided to negotiate to create a bi-partisan funding bill. The house had the bill and there are enough republicans to pass it. But because of the way things are with republican voters, they can just allow one person (Trump, a person incapable of understanding even their own positions) to convince Mike Johnson to prevent the bill from being voted on. In the end, it’s up to Republican voters to express their dismay at the lack of proper representation they have voted for. But they won’t because for decades they’ve been conditioned to believe that anything the democrats do isn’t just harmful to America, but it’s directly harmful to Republican voters. So, it’s just a matter of time before the majority of America literally votes away democracy.

Democrats didnt start shit, the Republicans never negotiated which is a core function of their job.

The Democrats are finally actually fighting for something and you're trying to downplay it. Crazy. The Democrats started this shut down for a very good reason and they should own it. This shutdown is so that federal agents stop murdering people in the streets. Shout it from the rooftops instead of trying to shrink from the blame.

No really. The democrats very much started the partial shutdown. Regardless of your political leanings this is an objective fact. The democrats offered to fund TSA and other parts of DHS without Ice and CBP funding as is, and republicans rejected this 11 times until recently.

So its the democrats job to do what republica s want but not republicans to do what democrats see best? Interesting. And if were looking to blame anyone maybe if ICE didnt start killing Americans in the middle of the street while arresting countless other citizens without the authority to do so theyd have enough money for whatever the next grifter this administration puts in that position to funnel to their pals.

That’s not at all what my comment was about. I didn’t elucidate any particular position, nor am I defending either position. I just simply explained what’s happening. There is no political subtext in my comment, just objective facts. You have constructed an argument from my words that does not exist. If you want to argue against an opinion, I’ll be happy to offer mine: the democrats were right in using the filibuster to prevent more outrageous funding to DHS. Trump and republicans have miscalculated by voting against democrat’s stand alone funding bills.

Your explanation is unnecessary and the right deserves no one who feels like they need to both sides things and act like anything they are doing is normal or acceptable.

Its not the democrats fault that the Republicans aren't willing to negotiate. Also by the way they can nuke the fillbuster to pass anything they want since they have the majority so the shutdown is on them not democrats.

Yes to all that. But it was a political risk for the democrats to force the shutdown as the TSA chaos could have come back on them politically. However, that didn’t happen so the gamble has paid off. ICE funding is reduced AND republicans get full blame for four hour TSA wait times.

Apparently vacation is more important to Congress than doing their jobs. Yes, all of them share blame here. Embarrassing

These House Republicans are digging their own grave. If they aren't in an R+10 or greater district, they're gonna be toast.
