>The girl is reportedly named Kim Ju Ae and aged about 13, but North Korea’s state media hasn’t released such personal details. Her reported name is based on an account by former NBA star Dennis Rodman, who recalled holding Kim Jong Un’s baby daughter during a trip to Pyongyang in 2013. Wait. We're getting intelligence from Dennis Rodman? The Worm? **throws hands in air in frustration.*

That's also how we're estimating her age Dennis Rodman has provided intel the best intelligence agencies in the world couldn't even after a decade plus

Have we asked JaRule?

Does Ja Rule have a personal relationship with Kim Jong Un like Dennis Rodman does?

Do you not remember how he was personally invited to NK and met with the elite? Do you know how rare that is for a westerner? Yes, somebody who directly met and learned things about the rulers of North Korea is an intelligence asset. It doesn’t matter if it’s a basketball player or the secretary of energy.

Do you not remember the diplomatic crisis between the US and North Korea during Trumps first term? When the US president was belittling the supreme leader on twitter, North Korea responded by conducting ICBM tests outside of South Korea and Dennis Rodman took his basketball diplomacy to Kim Jong-Un to smooth things over?

ih-shah-may-ehl 4 days ago +43
Yeah it's really too bad that Rodman was an active alcoholic at the time and kinda soured the relationship because it was a unique opportunity
43
karny90 4 days ago +53
Did that not happen prior to Trump or am I just hallucinating?

He started going over in 2013 and stopped in 2017 just after Trump took office

Dennis Rodman is a surprisingly important figure in NK diplomacy.

Has to be said, Dennis Rodman was hell of a basketball player

GreedyNovel 4 days ago +3
Maybe he'll pick up Kim Jong Un's sister on the rebound. /s Edit: For anyone who doesn't know, Rodman made his fame in the NBA as arguably one of the greatest rebounders ever, hence the joke.

Many years ago I was working on some geolocation stuff for a media company, and was looking over the data to make sure everything was working properly. I saw a single dot over North Korea, clicked on it and learned that the only thing they were looking at was NBA content. I remember just going “Dennis f****** Rodman…..” and not telling any higher ups in case it caused more questions that would need to be answered by me.

Non user specific attributed data, I work in marketing and we use it all the time. I’m sure it was moreso user #4589 located at this map ping did this thing

wh4tth3huh 4 days ago +2
Just like the apparent sole Steam User that connects from North Korea. It could be someone spoofing their location for a laugh...but, there's a chance that Kim Jong Un has some really crazy expensive CS2 knife skins.

It’s more like looking at how many requests are coming from each country based on IP. This was only notable because there was only one ip that showed up on the map as North Korea (which could be explained by some kind of proxy, I don’t know how the internet works over there) but it was only a handful of page views, and it was all nba content.

MoonchanterLauma2025 4 days ago +5
Oddly enough, the lack of word straight from North Korean officials is apparently why the kid doesn't have a hanja name written down on her English Wikipedia article. Evidently not even PRC officials have been told how to spell it for official press releases.

I remember all the criticism he got when he was semi-regularly visiting but you know what? F*** it, its progress. Its not like he was going to share any top secret info but we got a better insight to how Kim Jong Un operates. I'd call that a win. Hell, send enough NBA players to where he tries to be friendly enough to come to the US for a game.

Yeah. Through a strange series of events, he became something like an unofficial ambassador to north korea...

Women are grossly underrepresented in the dictatorship and authoritarian fields
43
brenster23 4 days ago +308
You know it is about time for a woman to a dictator or an regime. The US put a toddler with dementia, why cant North Korea have a young woman lead the country to future glory.

IIRC his sister is the #2 currently in terms of decision making. When he was sick, she was effectively the head of state. I imagine the succession plan would involve her acting as a regent until his daughter came of age
137
joesighugh 4 days ago +44
Yeah my thought is this will very likely involve one of them losing and his sister knows that.
44
Mr0neTwo34 4 days ago +24
Could start a civil war in NK. If the sister plans to hang on to power but the daughter is the true heir, sides may form. Might be the best thing for NK.

When you're a hereditary dictatorship, and only showing off one kid? Not really. Not that it matters too much with him having another good 40 years in him, barring any "accidents"
20
KimJongFunk 4 days ago +9
It matters in Korean culture when the child is female. You’re applying Western values onto this.
9
Ernesto_Griffin 4 days ago +4
Some monarchies allowed reigning quens long before any modern gender equality came about. Having a female ruler can perfectly coexist with an otherwise patriacal society.
4
fyrefox45 4 days ago -8
SK had a female president, don't see what's stopping NK. If a dictator has a favorite heir, thats the heir
-8
ThePenguinVA 4 days ago +9
Comparing SK and NK in this regard also is very western
9
Firefox72 4 days ago +11
Sure but current NK has had like 3 leaders so far. Not exactly a massive sample size. And Kim's sister already de facto ruled when he was sick. In a country so deeply engraved around 1 family and with such unwavering loyalty they won't suddenly rebel if Kim appoints his daughter to be the heir. He's been setting her up from when she was a small child and will continue to do it until he's dead. By the time that happens few will probably have anything to say against her.

Prestigious-Lab5154 4 days ago +75

So why does it matter? It's not like Kim is a decrepit old man with death knocking at the door. He's going to stay in power for the foreseeable future so speculating who will take over in a few decades is kind of moot isn't it?
9
GreedyNovel 4 days ago +11
He isn't old, but his health problems are pretty obvious. He's a heart attack waiting to happen.
11
ChesterComics 4 days ago +12
He's no pinnacle of health but he has world class access to Healthcare and he's in the same condition as plenty of people his age. He likely has many years left on this Earth. He's only 42.

NIS is more of a propaganda machine than an actual spy agency. Just ask KJU’s supposedly executed uncle, or is supposed mistress who was supposedly executed by anti-aircraft in a stadium full of people. The uncle had just been transferred and the rumored mistress was at the opening of the Winter Olympics a year after their “intelligence” briefing.

How many children does Kim have? How many legitimate and how many illegitimate children?

Firefox72 4 days ago +17
Only 1 confirmed child. The daughter. So its not really gonna be a strugle. Although the wife supposedly had 3 but that was never confirmed and i don't think either of the other 2 were ever seen in public.

13
Firefox72 4 days ago +20
Given the son is supposedly older but has never been seen in public its safe to assume he has been pushed to the side. The daughter meanwhile is often seen with Kim in public at events and just in general.

The real heir is being hidden, so he can travel incognito at some point. His sister will be his right hand but will never leave North Korea. Right now she serves to humanize her father.
