It really seems like the Iran war showed Ukraine that they have permission to attack these types of targets. I wonder if this was yet another unintended effect the Trump administration failed to consider.

I think that's part of it, but another big part is russia's lack of air defence. Over the second half of 2025 and into 2026, the amount of air defence systems destroyed in russia is staggering. It's systematic degradation, and now Ukraine is hitting anything then want outside of the Moscow air defence ring.

It took ukraine 3.5 years to destroy russia's air defense to allow them to get to this point.

I agree in a way. I think Ukraine could see a possible future where oil prices were high and middle eastern supply was offline, forcing Europe into a reproach with russia all the while US weapons were diverted to the Middle East. If that’s the future you expect it makes sense to get your licks in and really f*** their shit up now and don’t even worry about the US or anyone else getting upset about it. And based on most of the videos I’m seeing, Ukraine is self sufficient and using their own drones where they used to use expensive western missiles and air defense. They’re probably getting to a point where they don’t need anyone’s permission to hit juicy targets.
