They really need to make more seasons. This show is amazing. So much better then the movies
607
MICHAELSD01 2 days ago +255
They claim that it’s too expensive to produce so they decided to end it with season 2, but there are flagship series on other streaming services that are just as expensive if not much more so.

Both can be true, but I'm not sure Ted is the merchandise and licensing juggernaut other I.P.'s are. Star Wars and marvel make tons of money in toys and merch, that's where the real money is. Ted has some plushies but I have not seen Ted cereal yet, sadly.

There is a Ted strain of weed…. But I don’t think it’s related to the show
44
correctingStupid 1 day ago +35
There are Ted talks too. Which makes sense because it's a talking bear, but I don't think it's related to the show.
35
scottishdrunkard 1 day ago +9
If the show was set in the modern day, this would probably be actual plot points. Ted sues TED Talks. Unsuccessfully. Bet your ass he tried to sue Pixar too after the success of Toy Story.
9
h00ter7 1 day ago +3
Ted 3, Ted becomes a lawyer and gets sue happy. Sues TED Talks for the name, sues Tom Brady for leaving NE, Sam Jones for something.

I met a guy in he Netherlands called Ted, but I don't think it's related to the show
1
stonewallace17 2 days ago +46
They're also about to make a live action Dungeon Crawler Carl which I don't know how that's not going to be significantly more expensive than Ted.

I’m a little worried about this adaptation as much as I’d love for it to succeed.

I just don't see the Fraiser network as being "hip" enough for something like DCC. Amazon definitely, Netflix (except they would cancel it if the first episode didn't get a trillion views in the first 3 hours), maybe even Apple, but peacock is going to whiff it so hard....
4
AWorldwithoutSin 1 day ago +5
Amazon would give it the Wheel of Time treatment.
5

Twisted Metal was pretty f****** hip.

Went in with zero expectations and ready to have my childhood ruined but came away loving the series.

The need to pivot to animated. If they were upset over $8 million for a Teddy bear wait till every scene has a cat shooting laser beams from the back of her velociraptor.
9
mergedkestrel 2 days ago +8
That at least has a rabid fanbase who will support it if it's not complete garbage. I hope to be off the internet before the Katia romance discussion threads.

1

I jsut don't see how they can do it justice without an insane budget. The show is 1000 times more likely to be successful if it was animated.
1
antimarc 2 days ago +1
I heard it was going to be animated…
1
Josh2blonde 1 day ago +4
It probably should be.
4

It's the flagship series of *Peacock*, the Spirit Airlines of streaming services.
9
itrainmonkeys 2 days ago +5
I believe they announced an animated show which will likely be cheaper to produce and can hopefully capture some of the same style as the live action show. I'm still surprised how much I liked it and how funny I found it to be. I love the family.
5
SparkyMuffin 1 day ago +6
Problem is, it'll be adult Jonny and Ted. I can't think of a single memorable side character
6

Mark Whalburger isn't a voice actor, so I have very small confidence that it will be good.

8
MICHAELSD01 2 days ago +11
I thought it was closer to $10m. For these kind of numbers in this day and age that’s really not all that unreasonable.
11
Stillwater215 2 days ago +14
Especially considering that the main character is completely CGI, and surprisingly well done CGI.
14
MICHAELSD01 2 days ago +15
One of Seth McFarland’s conditions for doing the series was that they couldn’t compromise on the CGI for the bear.
15
immortalalchemist 1 day ago +10
And it really shows. After a while you kind of forget he’s CGI and accept he’s a talking teddy bear.
10
Luci-Noir 1 day ago +2
Watching it never makes it seem like the bear isnt there.
2
httkbaby11 1 day ago +3
They marketed the ever living f*** out of s2. I’d be shocked if there’s not more seasons, especially after this news
3
greenufo333 1 day ago +1
Apparently they are doing an animated show similar to family guy where they are bringing back mark wahlburg as well
1
MahNameJeff420 1 day ago +1
The difference is that the same story that talked about how well Ted also said Peacock lost $400 million this quarter. They don’t have the money to pump into crazy expensive tv shows like the other streamers.
1
Pandemona1738 1 day ago +1
That's sad, but i get it if financially it is not worth it, but as said, its so funny and silly. Binged whole season 2 in one weekend, was great.
1
bluehawk232 1 day ago +1
I think they could be more cost efficient cutting down episode runtimes. It should very be much a throwback to 80s sitcoms like alf and doesn't need to be as long as it is. My main gripe with the show is the really long runtime and it struggles to tell a story long enough to fill that instead opting for just smaller moments
1
YouLikeDadJokes 2 days ago +45
I think they’re banking on the animated Ted show they announced doing well and replacing this one for much cheaper, but I feel like it just won’t take off like this without being in live action and also not having this amazing family cast since it’s going to be a sequel set in the modern day. Hopefully they end up going back and greenlighting a third season eventually
45
CollinsCouldveDucked 2 days ago +49
I think it's pretty clear the teen with the talking magical teddy bear is the much funnier premise than the 30-40 something mark whalberg with the magical talking teddy bear. I think the animated show will do alright, maybe even get 3 seasons but it's going to be a massive downgrade. edit: If they did want to transition to animation, it should probably be an animated version of this.
49
LADYBIRD_HILL 2 days ago +43
The kid is *so* much better than Whalberg. I couldn't finish the second movie but loved the show.
43
Whiteguy1x 2 days ago +14
To be fair even the show said how the second movie is a hard watch at the end of the series
14
just_looking_aroun 1 day ago +2
But I like how Mark calls him "my teddy beaw"
2
StoneGoldX 2 days ago +11
I don't think it's specifically the teen, so much as the tone of the show is so much different than the movies. For as crass as the show is, it has so much heart. An emotional honesty. The movie... eh. What you would expect from a Seth McFarland Marky Mark project from that time period.
11
Luci-Noir 1 day ago +7
It’s weirdly wholesome.
7
StoneGoldX 1 day ago +1
I honestly wonder, did MacFarland's humor change, or is this chasing the more wholesome trends in sitcoms lately?
1
NoPriorThreat 1 day ago +3
i think something changed during Orville.
3
CollinsCouldveDucked 1 day ago +1
The orville starts as a down the middle macfarlane project but shifts into a very different beast over time.
1
thelingeringlead 1 day ago +1
I disagree, the first few episodes made it clear it would be different. Especially after the episode with the dude getting pregnant and fighting to keep his kid from getting a sex change at birth.
1
Luci-Noir 1 day ago +1
Not sure. Maybe there were other writers on it too. The number of joke and references is crazy. It’s like a firehouse and they mostly work.
1
StoneGoldX 1 day ago +1
100% other writers, but I think he and Dana Gould were the show runners.
1
Luci-Noir 1 day ago +2
I liked the show being in the 90’s and all the references.
2

I don’t think there is a single show out there that hits my sense of humor the same way this show does. It’s incredible
8
Atrocity_unknown 2 days ago +3
Agreed. There are so many one liners that crack me up. The one that got me this time around was when Matty is off screen shouting for Susan to call the doctor because his poop is *white*. Who comes up with this shit
3
Silist 1 day ago +4
the 90s references are also so well done. It doesn't feel like a show that's in love with the time period, but uses it as joke fodder
4
Luci-Noir 1 day ago +1
They’re nonstop too!
1
SomewhereNo8378 2 days ago +16
they sort of wrapped it up right into the movies with the end of season 2
16
human_picnic 2 days ago +21
Kind of, but only by way of voice over. They could easily add more seasons if they cared to
21
YouLikeDadJokes 2 days ago +18
It’s also not like he’s going to become Mark Wahlberg overnight he could be working out in season 3 but still be played by Max lol
18
AshlarKorith 2 days ago +7
Yeah but that’s super easily fixed. Just start the next scene with them immediately walking back out, saying something like he’s gotta work up to the gym, do some pushups at home first or something and then repeat the original finale scene when they finally actually finish the show.
7
Jackbuddy78 2 days ago +15

So I can just skip watching the movies and just watch the show alone?
5
oopsydazys 1 day ago +2
I never watched the movies and I loved the show. I think there's a couple references to things that are explained in the movies that they don't totally rehash in the show - like how Ted was wished to life, and more specifically that he apparently briefly became a celebrity after he was "born" because he's a sentient teddy bear and all. I have a feeling they went over that more in the movies.
2
forum_ryder72 2 days ago +3
I recommend this. The movies sucked.

Basically live action Family Guy and its fuckin great, wouldn’t hit the same if it was animated
99
Quantum_Quokkas 2 days ago +56
Yeah the whole hook of the show is that it’s a regular sitcom except the main character is a super expensive CGI bead. The wild suspension of disbelief is actually what makes it stand. But an animated series? Totally won’t hit the same.
56
RTRC 2 days ago +9
Peacock isn't going to survive if it can't fund good content. Netflix can piss away hundreds of millions on a generic action flick with the rock or Ryan Reynolds and not even think about it. It's one show on a very small list of stuff id subscribe for.
9
scottishdrunkard 1 day ago +4
Most episodes you forget there’s even a sentient teddy bear. The absurd in the mundane is the draw. I mean, imagine a sitcom about a family who just moved in, and the kids aren’t entirely sold on their new step-dad. Now imagine the step-dad is an alien who looks like Beta Ray Bill from Marvel Comics. Like, all the mystique of life on other planets has worn off and now he’s just “some guy”. That would be an interesting show. But in animation, well that’s just par for the course. Typically I’m pro-animation, but this is one of the few instances where the medium sells the pitch.
4
JusticeLeagueThomas 2 days ago +8
I have to agree, feels like the earlier seasons of family guy. I’ve stopped watching FG a very long time ago

Bring him in to the eventual Orville revival as a Wesley-type character. Same accent and attitude, just in space.
29
Thor4269 2 days ago +26
He was in the first season of The Orville as an inhabitant of the colony ship that was captained by Liam Neeson So it wouldn't be much of a stretch to have him come back lol Blaire is from the upvote/downvote planet too
26

Yeah, last we saw The Union was helping them reacclimatise to, well, space. Maybe since then he got to join the Union Fleet, like an exchange program.
1

He was already in one episode. Can't remember the episode or the season. Played an alien kid on some gigantic ship where they didn't even know they were in space.
9
Arkanial 2 days ago +4
With Fuzzy Door being given the live action adaption of Dungeon Crawler Carl I don’t see there being any more Orville in the near future. I know season 4 is written but I feel like they’re going to be focused on the DCC production for a while.
4
chamberx2 2 days ago +3
That makes me sad. Orville was the best Trek in years.
3

Man if ever there were a book series that screamed “live action is gonna be a disaster” it is DCC. No way they have the budget to make it look a tenth as acceptable as it needs.

The first movie is mid and the second movie is abysmal, but this show is something truly special.
4
LADYBIRD_HILL 2 days ago +9
My main takeaway from the first movie was that Seth really likes Flash Gordon, and if you have no attachment to it it's way less funny than it would be otherwise. The second movie was so painful to me that I shut it off partway through which I generally don't do with movies. I just can't stand Whalberg. Love the show though.
9
snakeeater34 2 days ago +4
The second one as bad as it is does have my favorite throwaway (and return) gag though, with Liam neeson trying to buy Trix cereal. And the post credits scene where he finally gets back to his apartment battered and beaten

45
Kevbot1000 2 days ago +66
Even that animated series theyre doing, I would just make it the current cast but animated. Max Burkeholder is way more enjoyable as John than Wahlburg.
66
ImpossibleGuardian 2 days ago +31
Yeah it’s strange that they seem to have decided to move on from the TV show cast for now. Not sure anyone was hankering for more Mark Wahlberg lol
31
MICHAELSD01 2 days ago +5
It’s an easy way to continue with the A-list cast since voice acting takes much less time than filming. I am skeptical that it would be as enjoyable as a cartoon. They should just continue the series and do another movie.
5
Indocede 1 day ago +1
But there is NO reason to move to an A-list cast. I will make the presumption that the vast majority of people who are fans of Ted right now enjoy the cast of the show, so moving to an A-list cast is just an additional expense to make things less enjoyable.

Dana Gould who is a producer/writer on the show said that Marty is basically his dad, who could be both PC and completly un-PC in the same sentence. Like, they weren't sure about Marty accepting Claire as a lesbian. So he told the stoy about his own dad accepting his sister as gay. It went something like, "Whadda you care what she does behind closed doors when she goes home? 'Cause frankly, it's none of ya goddamn buisness. Besides, look at her, it's not like she's getting a man anytime soon..."
3

I know it’s really expensive so I get the why if not continuing, but at least make the animated series a continuation. 90% of the charm is the family unit and it would be weird without Susan, Blair, and Matty

I know a season 3 is not in the cards, but I would love a movie a new movie or 2 that takes place between season 2 and the first movie

People's attention spans have become so short that companies now have to measure in minutes watched lmao.

That’s not why. It’s because minutes watched is an easily measured and comparable metric to other shows. TV companies been tracking minutes watched for decades.

I watched this show over the past 2 weeks. It is truly amazing. The jokes are hilarious and it's not surface level deep, either. It's a shame they aren't doing more. It is literally the best thing the C*** has done.

Says something about Peacock if one of they're flagship series is too expensive to continue producing. Reportedly S1 only had a budget in the $70,000,000 range.

Why can't the animated movie be young John? Why does it have to be old John?

It is so very funny, and heartfelt at the same time. Susan ended up being my favorite character. Matty with all his anger and ignorance does not deserve a woman that kind and sweet.

1 Billion minutes. What dumb metric. Who is that useful for? What the hell does a billion minute even mean? It's a transparent marking tactic. "WoW A BilLiOn???!!?? That's big!!" A billion minutes on a 2.5 movies means \~6.6 million watches. A billion minutes on a 1 hour show with 10 episodes would be \~1.6 million watches. A billion minutes on a 30 minute TV Show with 24 episodes would be \~1.4 million watches. For context a show like Modern Family gets 4 - 11 million view PER EPISODE. Presented to you as if it's a smash hit. Realistically it's just fine.

I heard a rumor that when Peacock greenlit season 2, they told Seth McFarlane this was the last season but gave him a bigger budget than requested. Ending here was the plan for a long time and McFarlane is lucky he was able to end it how he wanted. We are getting a new animated series with Marky Mark and Amanda Seyfried returning

Wahlberg isnt funny at all, and who was Amanda seyfried? Was she in Ted 2? So the show is a direct sequel to the shittiest part of the brand? Lmao

Cool down on the swearing and the dialogue would flow way better. It’s like a 6th grader discovering bad words for the first time
