Being dumb worked well for him. In modern times it's amazing I'm smarter than the president of the United States. It should not be

The people in power dont want anyone but the wealthy to go to college. Because people who go to college stop voting Republican.

NoPossibility Mar 29, 2026 +11
Trump is a different breed. He hates intellectuals because he’s a narcissist and has to be the center of attention. He wants to be the smartest, most sought after person in any room he’s in. Anyone with professional credentials of any kind are a threat to his ego. That’s why the only people that can remain working with him for any amount of time are pure sycophants.

Crimkam Mar 29, 2026 +5
some people with these sorts of needs dedicate themselves to self improvement. Instead he uses it to lash out at anyone who's better than him. Unfortunately he sucks at just about everything.

Bircka Mar 29, 2026 +1
You mean a guy that wears a hat unironically with the words "Trump was right about evertyhing", has narcissists tendencies? Shit, I can't imagine any other President being caught dead wearing a hat like that about them.

peeple-pleeser Mar 29, 2026 +1
Hmm almost every representative that is republican went to college....
1
Crimkam Mar 29, 2026 +5
4 in 10 adult americans hold a college degree, while \~94% of congress does. Pretty sure that goes back to the whole wealthy thing. "It's a big club, and you ain't in it." Or some such. Interestingly the only senator without a college degree is a republican (M. Mullin, from Oklahoma). Also 73% of democrat congress people have a graduate degree, while only 55% of republican reps do. going no, graduated on the other hand... Also, curating a clip show of the drunk people on vacation that couldn't answer some questions and using that to attack the very concept of education is intellectually bankrupt at best, lol
10
logicalpiranha Mar 29, 2026 -12
Fine, graduating from an average state university doesn't mean you're smart or educated. Just brainwashed. Wow that's impressively reductive. A video asking random college students easy questions a college student... or even a high school student should be able to answer is quite telling about the education system in the US. I would say the students are bankrupt not the attack.
-12
fresh_dyl Mar 29, 2026 +1
Trump being a prime example of that statement
1
Matchboxx Mar 28, 2026 -75
If you were so smart, you would have found a job that compensated you well enough for your masterful skills that you could pay down the loan in a reasonable amount of time; or, wouldn’t have taken out the loan in the first place.
-75
Crommach Mar 28, 2026 +14
Right, because job markets never turn bad, services like financial aid are always stable (as are the governments that operate them), and conditions in society generally never change, so the plans you're expected to make (which you of course make with nothing but the best advice from parental and school resources which are available to all) will flawlessly dictate the entire course of your life. "F*** you for trying to improve your life in the way your entire society promised would work" is a bold take, there.
14
Matchboxx Mar 29, 2026 -17
Sometimes shit happens. You’re an adult. Navigate it. The money was still loaned to you and you are still obligated to repay it. Yes, sometimes the market changes, such as how AI is disrupting software engineering. I refer to the above point. What I have zero pity for, however, is the person who takes out $100K in out of state or private school loans, get their degree in art history, and then make a surprised Pikachu face when there are few jobs in that field and they pay less than $50K a year in usually HCOL areas. Pick an in state program. Pick a marketable degree. Pivot if you need to. And then repay what you owe. It’s part of being a grown up.

For some reason a lot of maga people think that anyone that went to college studied socialist CRT Marxism gender art or something along those lines. They seem to forget that people do need to be educated to be nurses, teachers, doctors, engineers, programmers, architects, and on and on. I’d argue most people that are college educated have a degree that applies to their job skills and performance. I can’t help but think this attack on education is heavily influenced by Christian nationalism. We know desegregation was the start of a lot of complaining by a certain demographic, and then that same group latched on to the idea that “government schools” (their name for public schools) were the worse thing ever and taught students to hate religion. That gave them a way to rally for private schools that can control who they enroll without having to say the segregation part out loud. Now it’s gotten so out of control that they want schools that indoctrinate students into the maga worldview.

One_Artichoke_7594 Mar 29, 2026 +27
Well it’s funny you mention those professions Nurses and doctors? “Oh no that’s a scam/chips/vaccine hysteria I much prefer to take advice from my local oil salesmen” Teachers? “Oh no they’ll be exposed to real people doing real stuff better homeschool and strangle them with my worldview” Engineers, programmers? “WTF are those” Architects? “Just deport people and we won’t need new buildings!” It’s definitely some kind of war on intelligence and knowledge. Reality even

Whenever I think about this I don’t understand the thought behind it.  “We need 2 incomes to survive, f*** thinking about kids” “Let’s make women stay at home and they are gonna magically have kids” “Soooo you want us to lose one source of income while also making more mouths to feed while raising the price of everything except wages?” “Yea that’s correct”  https://tenor.com/view/bruh-gif-26931806

Especially the college students that actually voted for him. I know not all of them. But between the guy that tried to forgive student loan debt and the guy who did absolutely nothing about it in his first term I dont get why you would pick the absolute worst choice. I know people who got a lot of their debt forgiven before the judicial branch put a brake to it. The current students are looking at worse job market and worse debt repayment system. I guess they'll all learn the lesson the hard way.

Why Did Deutsche Bank Keep Lending to Donald Trump? The bank kept writing checks even after Trump defaulted on loans worth hundreds of millions and sued it. by Heather Vogell, ProPublica, and Andrea Bernstein, WNYC May 22, 2019, 7:30 pm The German bank loaned a cumulative total of around $2.5 billion to Trump projects over the past two decades, and the bank continued writing him nine-figure checks even after he defaulted on a $640 million obligation and sued the bank, blaming it for his failure to pay back the debt. https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-inc-podcast-deutsche-bank-donald-trump This prick.

And that is plenty for most of his voters, other negative consequences be damned
26
GhostofZellers Mar 28, 2026 +2
Yep, a lot of them don't care what he's done in the past, what he's doing now, or what horrors he'll do in the future, as long as it makes liberals upset. It's the only metric they care about.

Funny thing is it's his voters that will probably suffer the most. Then blame Biden for it.

External-Example-292 Mar 29, 2026 +8
I couldn't afford it and will probably have to declare bankruptcy. I live in another country now so I am not scared of having to declare bankruptcy. I don't care about credit scores. I was paying my monthly idr rate before. Somehow they put me in forbearance and my student loans are starting to sky rocket now.. Technically I have paid what I originally owed long time ago but because of f****** interest rates, my loan has been going up instead of down.. Despite this, I was following the forgiven route after 20-25 years with reasonable monthly idr payment. If they f*** with this, I'm done.
8
venom21685 Mar 29, 2026 +7
Afaik the federal student loans can't really be discharged through bankruptcy.
7
External-Example-292 Mar 29, 2026 +6
Then it'll go on default. I don't have US income they can tack it on to. And credit score can go to hell, i dont need it ☺️
6
PsychologicalEmu9729 Mar 29, 2026 +5
That’s correct. Student loans and (I believe) child support debt are some of the only debts that bankruptcy will not resolve.

This orange f*** owes us gas money. We'll call it even with the student loans.
3
FunkyHedonist Mar 28, 2026 +5
Respect! (No sarcasm). I've been paying my loans for 20 years but the balance barely changes. I often think I'm an idiot for paying. I don't care if I have bad credit, since I don't want to own a home, own a car, or have a family. I guess I just keep paying because I don't want them to try claim the full balance is due and then seize my bank account assets, but I don't even know if they even try to do that. Anyway TLDR - You rock for not paying, and I would probably be financially smarter to follow your example.
5
David_Peshlowe Mar 28, 2026 +4
I'd probably pay if I made enough money to do anything but live in my apartment. I couldn't even if I wanted to.
4
FunkyHedonist Mar 28, 2026 +3
Thanks for the additional explanation. You still rock. I sure as f*** wouldn't try to pay it, if I was in your shoes.

-43
PsychGuy17 Mar 28, 2026 +23
Most people are happy to pay a reasonable amount on their student loans, as long as they can still cover the basics (food, water, shelter, and child care). The problem is that these basics have all exploded in cost over the past 50 years. The vast majority of those in the house and senate have no clue on life for anyone under 40 because very few have ever been middle class or below, and far too many are over the age 65 (many are in their 80s).
